- Charles Villiers Stanford
Work: Irish Rhapsody No.4 in A minor, Op.141 "The Fisherman of Lough Neagh" (1913)
Orchestra: London Philharmonic Orchestra
Conductor: Sir Adrian Boult
I had the great privilege of conducting this magnificent work with my orchestra in Northbrook, IL (north of Chicago) in November, 2008, and will present it again on April 13, 2014 (yes, it was very successful the first time). Very rare, and performed only after much difficulty with the orchestral materials. The only available full score is in Stanford's original manuscript, which I had to teach myself to read. But the music is totally worth every bit of effort.
Where did you get the full score from?
I would also be interested to know where you found the full score? Was it a copy from the RCM Library Archives?
@@Leea25 The publisher EC Schirmer (I think...) served as the domestic agent for the materials. I'm not sure how they managed to get the stuff, as the original British publisher was no longer in business.
@@HassoBenSoba Thank you. Checking Schirmer will be a good start for me :)
I am so very happy to have just discovered this music.
Quite simply a piece to take your breath away.
Gorgeous music.
This is an exciting work to hear.
Delightful!
I really adore Stanford.
I love the climax at the end of this rhapsody, more than the Rhapsody #1 ("Danny Boy")
+John Boushka the 'Derry Air' :-)
Love it!
I can hear Berlioz
I can hear Stanford.@@michaeljeran5637
YES!!!
12:32 Die alte Welt.
I never thought I would say this, but Boult surpasses Handley. AND, it's a better orchestra!
With you some of the way as surprisingly I too feel that Boult is the better interpreter but I sense that the Ulster band are much more idiomatic and at home with feel of the material.
Yup, this is by far the best version
