    If you go back to the blower test, what'd you'd notice is toward the end, like the 6 minute mark, the output on the blower with the edge battery would be notably higher. The drastically reduced internal resistance allows the voltage to stay higher for longer, which means the drop off curve is much flatter until it falls off a cliff when the battery simply runs out of juice. But the total energy stored is still the same so if it outputting more energy from 4 minutes to 7 minutes, then it physically has less to continue running at 9 minutes

    Been in the platform since rhe Blue tools. Now own maybe 35 Ryobis, many brushless. Bought the 9ahs when they were on sale, own 6 of them. Yes they're heavy but wow what a performance difference. Charge them in the Ryobi wall mount 6 charger. No issues whatsoever.

    My neighbor has 4ah edge and I tested with my ryobi 1"sds. Now the regular battery and the one it does a decent job but I threw edge in it and it was almost a different tool. Edge is very nice option for higher power tools. I will grab a couple soon. Thanks for the infotainment!

    I just got in the brushless 21 degree framing nailer with the hp4 amp batt-ray and this nail gun is a beast. Can’t wait to use it. I’m a longtime Ryobi user and this is my first batt-ray nailer of any brand. One interesting feature is battery connector moves and it is labeled shock absorber. Neat feature if you drop it, assuming this is why they added this feature. Do you have a review on this nail gun. They are touting with this battery 750 nails before a charge. Starting a couple large decks and some interior remodeling with new framing and subfloors so excited to see how this works out. I’ve always used pneumatic nail guns but if this gun works well, it will definitely be worth the 329.99 I paid for it which I thought with battery is a good price. Very interesting battery test. Liked it alot

    Because of good experience I has with a 24 volt trimmer I purchased about 16 years ago, I replaced it due to battery no longer available at a reasonable price (third party). I purchased a new18 volt trimmer and the rest is history. Ryobi had constant "specials" with the 18 volt tools and batteries so I built my arsenal. I no longer had to drag out my 100 foot extension cord to use power tools outside and at the far ends of my property. Ryobi had a complete system with one type of battery for many tools so that was a big incentive. Their special promotions provided reasonable pricing and either a free tool or two free batteries. So now I have 10 4ah batteries (and two 2ah) and five regular chargers. That was smart and successful marketing on Ryobi's part, and smart purchasing on my part. These tool are all a DIY person needs. I don't know how they would perform if I were a contractor. But the price is right for average home use. As for the edge battery, I'm not impressed and don't see a need to upgrade. Your test was fair, accurate, and honest. Thanks.

    I love my old ryobi 5.5" circular saw because it's super light. I noticed a big improvement when i switched to their high power batteries. I run it with a 6.0 and it still only weighs a few pounds. Perfect for cutting overhead or on a ladder. Im also into m18/m12 but as far as i can tell nothing matches the weight to power ratio, and i can't wait to get one of these new batteries to try it out.

  • @paint1956
    @paint1956 11 дней назад

    The 2nd two of the three batteries being premium probably had cells that can output higher current than the "cheap" one. And that's probably why it died first. 4 amp/hr is 4 amp/hr . Lower current consumption might let the battery manage it's discharge rate a little better, but I don't think by much. Might make more power in a circular saw with a little less runtime.

    One Thing That Really Matters Is The Maturity Of The Battery.
    It takes apx 10X's of using & charging the batteries to reach a full power.
    I've tested the same old batteries with the same new batteries & this is what I've found.
    Stay Encouraged 😜

  • @swiftz69
    @swiftz69 13 дней назад

    You do know they are using different cells in all the batteries? The ah is the same but the power delivered will be different. Need to open them up and see what cells they all use. If it's 20 amp 30 amp or 40 amp. That's where they are going to differ. People testing by run time is misleading.

    I think that where extra power is needed the HO Batteries are the way to go. Extra Extra power is needed then the edge has the edge of the Standard HO battery. NO Philly for me!!

  • @permoluis
    @permoluis 19 дней назад

    Ah just means battery power output you can have a massive battery and had just 4ah. Edge battery seems smaller so it's going to last less than the others. Edge battery should last at least same time with a little bit more power. So Ryobi save money making it smaller(less cells) and does selling it expensive offering a little bit more power than others, more profit for them.

  • @jalee6587

    The the hp and edge actually provided the blower with a significant boost in cfm and air speed which would explain why they didn’t run as long. More amps discharge

  • @derekmason1790
    @derekmason1790 21 день назад +2

    My understanding is the hp tools can use the extra power from the edge. Curious if you do get longer run time on the nonhp tools. Overall though standard battray looking real nice like

    • @josephcullen2512
      @josephcullen2512 21 день назад +1

      Any tool can use the extra power to some extent... It's just that HP tools can use it more... especially if they have the extra HP connections. And the Edge batteries will prolly run cooler on any tool too. I'm a fan of HP batteries myself and might upgrade to Edge when it's economically sensible

    Honestly, there is a slight advantage to the EDGE battery. But not enough to make me run out and replace my HP batteries. But I would buy the EDGE batteries from here moving forward with any new tools, just because they are obviously the most powerful option. Also, was that circular saw a gen 2? I'm wandering if all the newer gen 2 tools they announced will take better advantage of that EDGE battery tech.

  • @dtardis

    I guess I'm the dumb one here, but I thought amp hour meant how many amps it could deliver in a period of time. So if they are all 4 amp hour batteries then I'd expect them to die at about the same time under the same load.

  • @TheGregoYatzee

    Yo Clint! Question. To get the extra power effect from the Edge battery, does one have to be using an HP tool? Meaning, the extra power of HP vs standard is if one is using an HP tool. Wondering if it's the same recipe for the Edge. 🤔

      @ToolReviewZone  21 день назад +2

    Honestly, I think you just proved that the new Edge batteries are a waste of money. The bog standard $99.oo battery got the job done. Took a little longer. It struggled a bit, but it got the job done.... _which is perfectly fine for a DIY/Homeowner power-tool brand._ Seriously, it's Ryobi. It's not Makita, Milwaukee, or specifically DeWalt XR. Amateur DIYer isn't going to care that it's taking a bit longer to complete a home improvement project. Especially if it allows him to get away from the wife for several minutes longer. What you just proved is that the $99.oo battery is good enough. (Also, we all know that you and Vince are friends.)

      My wife is right there by my side building, wrenching, and getting it done. She ain't afraid to get her hands dirty. I'm sure others have awesome wives too. Sounds to me someone's a little bitter, $20 more for better performance? I'd say that's a win, considering all the other tool brands that mark up their higher performing batteries way way more then that.
