You ended with “The Muppet’s Christmas Carol”, why wasn’t it either on the list or an honorable mention? It’s my favorite version (with apologies to Sir Patrick Stewart). Now as for Christmas in Connecticut”, I’m amazed, it’s always been a favorite of mine since I discovered it in 73 as a teenager. I had no idea it had become so popular!! Yay!
Agreed, MUPPETS CHRISTMAS CAROL is probably the most family-friendly CHRISTMAS CAROL out there, with the MUPPETS wit and humor. It is said that Sir Michael Caine LOVED working on the movie, he told the producers/directors he would do it like he was doing Shakespeare.
I agree that Its a Wonderful Life should be number one but UGH! You showed the colorized version? The black and white original works just fine! Please thumbs up if you agree. 🙂🙃🙂🙃
"It's a Wonderful Life" is the best movie to watch around Christmas. It fills you with appreciation for your life, and while it wasn't a big hit in 1946, repeated airings popularised it.
The remake with David Hartman and Sebastian Cabot is really good too. However, I didn't care for the Richard Attenborough version. The Reginald Owen, Gene Lockhart version of "A Christmas Carol" is good and so are the Mister Magoo and Muppet versions.🤔😊👍 I agree with the top three here!
Yes, Alistair Sim plays Scrooge about as good as anyone could. He is indifferent in the beginning, not mean or nasty. And then, he is so happy he is giddy at the end, as someone just saved. Awesome movie!
@@danmc7815 It's not just the giddy happiness, but the clear humility and remorse when he goes to see his nephew and hesitates to enter. Love the sweet encouragement from the servant girl who answered the door. More was said silently in that one exchange than many speeches could say.
@janflewelling6277 You are right. Sim sets the right tone again and again in this movie. I would also add the look when he meets the Ghost of Christmas Yet to Come. He had a look of sheer terror, as if he was soiling, well, himself. And, his gradual change of attitude with each spirit. He is not the same character after Marley leaves and changes with each Ghost. I watch this every year and have for decades, beginning in the 1980s thanks to my father who loves it too.
@ Sounds like you have it memorized as I do. It’s just not Christmas until I’ve watched it. It’s #1 on my list, followed by Muppets Christmas Carol, and Mr Magoo’s Christmas. None of the other adaptations count.
Favorites in no particular order! -A Christmas Carol (Alastair Sim) -A Bishops Wife -Christmas in Connecticut -It happened on 5th Avenue -The Cheaters A Christmas Story -Elf -Christmas with the Kranks -The Santa Clause -Fred Clause -How the Grinch Stole Christmas -Star in the Night
My dad went Clark mode on our Christmas tree a few days ago when a section of the lights wouldn't work it got him so frustrated that he took the tree down stripped the lights off and threw the tree out our back door. That's a Christmas memory I will probably never forget.
Great choices, but I can't agree with your choice of the Reginald Owen version of A Christmas Carol. The best version ever is the Alastair Sim film of 1951.
Some other honorable mentions: The Bishop's Wife, While You Were Sleeping, Batman Returns, Gremlins, Babes in Toyland, The Man Who Came to Dinner, The Apartment, The Lemon Drop Kid, Remember the Night, Scrooged, The Muppet Christmas Carol, Prancer, Earnest Saves Christmas
I’ll Be Seeing You, We’re No Angels, Moonlight Bay, It Happened On 5th Avenue, The Great Rupert, Penny Serenade, Going My Way, Holiday Affair, O’Henry’s Full House, Scrooge (1951)
A very sadly overlooked and mostly forgotten Christmas classic that introduced the beautiful holiday song 'Silver Bells' was the Bob Hope movie 'The Lemon Drop Kid'. I highly recommend it to anyone who hasn't seen it.
Right! My husband and I watch Christmas movies nightly, from the day after Thanksgiving through Christmas Eve. We put The Lemon Drop Kid on the list several years ago, and enjoy it greatly. I also recommend 1955's We're No Angels. It's a sweet, quirky Christmas comedy with a great cast.
I’ve been watching these Christmas movies lately. My favorite has to be the Santa Claus an elf and how the Grinch stole Christmas white Christmas is pretty good too. I’ve been listening to the remix version of the song that has Bing Crosby featuring V from BTS and I can’t stop listening to it on repeat. It’s so amazing. I love Christmas movies as much as I love listening to the music. I’ve been doing both at the same time and it just brightens my spirit and relaxes me and calms me down merry Christmas everyone and a happy holiday holidays.
Jingle All the Way had perfect timing. It satirized a commercialized frenzy to purchase a particular Christmas toy and hit theaters for the Christmas season of 1996, i.e. when there was a rush to get either a Tickle Me Elmo doll or a Nintendo 64 console.
Our family is watching it at the theatre tomorrow! You should check near you as many places are showing it today and tomorrow. Was my grandmas favorite movie. Now it is my favorite to watch at around Christmas! Let’s go Dodgers 🏆🏆🏆🏆🏆
I would add 3 more. All different genres, but all definitely Christmas movies. The classic 1947 The Bishop’s Wife, with Cary Grant, Loretta Young and David Niven. The action thriller The Long Kiss Goodnight, with Geena Davis and Samuel L. Jackson. And the Romcom The Holiday, with Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet. I watch these every year as well as many that you already have on your list. Merry Christmas!
The video beautifully balances nostalgic storytelling with insightful commentary, making it both entertaining and informative. The ranking includes a wide range of genres, showcasing diverse ways filmmakers celebrate Christmas. I learned how movies from different decades reflect the evolving themes of Christmas, from family chaos in National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation to the timeless values in It’s a Wonderful Life. The influence of music in holiday films, such as Irving Berlin’s songs in White Christmas, creates enduring memories and emotional connections.
The polar express and Beauty and the beast the enchanted christmas. Happy thursday afternoon, Kirsten, take care and God bless you. Greetings from Colombia to you as well
Christmas Vacation is my favorite Christmas movie! Scrooged has also been a favorite of mine. Muppet Christmas Carol is the best adapted Christmas Carol.
I'm always disappointed when none of these lists seem to include the English musical Scrooge from Shepperton Studios. It's one of the most beautiful but underrated Christmas movies. I really wish more people would check it out. I'm pretty sure they would add it to their Christmas list.
Two of my favorite Christmas movies are Christmas with the kranks, and Eloise at Christmas time. Even though I'm in my '50s both movies are fun to watch and what I would consider modern classics.
13:09. Keep in mind: Mr. Potter screwed George out of $8,000.00 right before Christmas in 1945, which in 2024 would be like if your bank screwed you out of roughly $140,000.00.
I love Santa Claus : the Movie! Its a bit of a national treasure in the uk and shown pretty much every chrostmas eve or christmas day on tv. And i think it has my favourite version of an elf factory.
One great fact is the guy who played Santa in the miracle on 34th Street finally got a proper burial last Christmas at Hollywood forever cemetery. For me that one is the number one movie the second is Scrooge.
I may be the only one thinking, where’s ELF? (Thou my fave is Jimmy Stewart in Its a Wonderful Life, honorable mention for me is Little Lord Fauntleroy. Merry Christmas to All!!)
I was about to call you out for not mentioning The Muppet Christmas Carol, but then you had the clip of it at the end. Still think it should have been on the list, but I’ll let it slide.
Another good Christmas movie is "Yes Virginia, There Is a Santa Claus (1991) Charles Bronson, Richard Thomas and Ed Asner" but it was made for TV so I guess it didn't qualify. It is available on RUclips.
Some real classic Christmas movies would be remember the night, it happened on 5th avenue, the man who came to dinner, holiday affair, the bishops wife, the apartment and the muppet Christmas carol! I refuse to accept die hard!!!
The old animated Grinch, The Bishop's Wife. The title I think doesn't lend itself to being recognized as a holiday movie but it is. I also prefer the Alistair Sim Scrooge.
Best Christmas movies: Santa Claus: The Movie (1985) Mickey's Christmas Carol (1983) The Muppets' Christmas Carol (1992) You've Got Mail (1998, according to the opening credits, it was based on The Shop Around the Corner, but I haven't seen that one) Last Holiday (2006. I just looked it up, and it was based on a 1950s British comedy of the same name.) How the Grinch Stole Christmas (1966) A Charlie Brown Christmas (1965) The Santa Clause franchise (1994 --) And, since I'm Jewish, The Rugrats Hanukkah episode (1996)
The only one on this list I agree with is White Christmas, and it is in WAY to low a place on the list. And I am frankly disappointed that Mojo would claim that ANY movie is a unanimous favorite, in this case Miracle On 34th Street. My family can't stand this movie.
I agree with this. White Christmas should be at the top of the list, my whole family loves this movie. Personally, I don't know anyone that likes miracle on 34th street, so how can their assessment be unanimous?
Honorable shoutouts go to "Scrooged" and "Santa Claus: The Movie". A lot of people may not know this, but the latest "A Christmas Story" movie is actually part four in the series.
A Christmas Carol should have been #1 as it is the epitome of Christmas spirit, though kudos for showing the 1938 version. I am wondering how Scrooged was overlooked.
Antoher crappy list of Mojo which included Dia Hard but left out The Muppets Christmas Carol, Elf and The Bishop's Wife (with Cary Grant). They make these monstrosities just to generate comments (traffic), I guess.

Frank Capra called It’s A Wonderful Life his favorite of all the films he made

Love that movie
I watched "It's a wonderful life" a few years ago and it's indeed heartwarming.
One of my favorites is often overlooked as a Christmas movie The Man Who Came to

How could you leave out Remember the Night? Romance, redemption. A truly great movie.
I love Christmas In Connecticut.
I can't believe that White Christmas was so far down on the list😮

White Christmas should have been #1!

@tfe1788So glad someone else enjoys We’re No Angels. Bogart is terrific in this comedic role playing a benevolent criminal.
