    The kings of football blown from their throne by long haired men playing a revolutionary brand of football. That's how the clash between Brazil and Holland in the 1974 World Cup is often portrayed. But Holland's famous victory left a legacy greater than any pretty metaphor can capture.
    It proved, decisively, that cohesive, collective movement in both attack and defense is an essential part of modern football. Brazil 1970 may have triumphed on sheer talent alone, they would be the last side to ever do so.

    The best team in the history of football. Maybe we won't see a squad play in this way anymore. Who had the opportunity to see the Holland of 1974 in action, was a very luckily man. Johan Cruyff: the best.

    Holland, making the sweeper keeper a cool thing 40 years before Neuer did it at the 2014 WC.
    I love how Ajax/Holland and Cryuff's Barca used fullbacks. Very similar to the way Guardiola uses Alaba and Lahm;. Way more involved in buildup play to the traditional FB.

    Best part for me is at 2:33 when Van Hanegem takes a free kick immediately and passes to Neeskens, who is totally free. Then a one-two with Cruyff and its a goal. The real star is Van Hanegem, who was quick to think and pass and had already spotted the opportunity others failed to see.

    • @jbpicado
      @jbpicado 3 года назад +1

      ah, c'mon, bla bla: his was a straight pass; way more challenging is cruyff's last one, made in the free space among three braziilan defenders, right where neeskens were arriving to finish just above leão's reach. any way, this whole goal is a piece of craft.

    Very enjoyable and an excellent analysis. If you haven't done so already, read Robert Fish's biography of Pele who describes the state of mind in the Brazillian camp (as he was a spectator, not a player) at the 1974 World Cup very vividly. The Selecao weren't very focused and Zagalo was satisfied with narrow margins of victory and dour play to achieve them.

    From Italy I say. The Netherlands had a great team, but in this game Brazil had real chances of victory. And more, the Netherlands may have won, but did not massacre Brazil, as it had massacred Uruguay, Argentina, etc. lost by little, without speaking the maneuvers extra field to undermine Brazil. The Brazilian talent is unequaled, 5 stars, and one more final in Russia, against Italy.Netherlands eternal vice.

    Because Germany were an amazing team in their own right.
    Germany had there own system based around passing football as well. If you do not believe me go and have a look at the game. The game was all about passing.
    The the difference with Holland is that they did not have the same resources as Germany. The league was smaller and they are a smaller country. What they achieved was amazing. Holland have played in 3 world cup finals and won euro 88.
    England needs the same level of innovation.

    This is pure tactic, playing smart and using the rules. It's great to see that this kind of offensive playing still works. You must have the team and players for it. Last year Ajax could do it with a great team although they had far less budget then teams like Real. This year the last 2 many key players to play like this. Pity. Some teams have coaches which use parts of it like Bayern or City.

    this is very true. In fact, only those teams, clubs or national, that practice the Holland-74 model, have been successful. Others, who opt to either stick to their domestic style, like England or Uruguay, or try to invent their own model, like Denmark in mid 80s w/ its 3+6+1 line-up, they didn't go far. Even Italy, famous w/ its rigid defense - look who scored so many really decisive goals - Cabrini in 82, Grosso and Materazzi in 06.

    Ajax/Amsterdam where in 1970 the total soccer, voetbal, got it's birth, was based on the following ingredients.
    TEAM (Together Each Achieves More). At all age levels you were taught that the 10 players who do NOT have
    the ball at the moment in the game are as EQUAL important as the person who has the ball. All players can not for 1 second be distracted from the game. All players endurance/fitness was priority # 1. The individual requirements based on TIPS.
    Technique, Intelligence, Personalty and Speed. Ajax Youth Development system has been copied around the world. Righteously so. The results of Ajax 1971, 1972 and 1973 season was undisputed an era of true TEAM SOCCER ! Which resulted in an DUTCH National TEAM 1974 that showed the world TOTAL SOCCER. I was born in 1960 and I have had the privilege of participating at the Ajax Youth program from 1970 till 1978. Great memories of my heroes. Cruyff , Neeskens, Suurbier, Krol, Rep, Haan, Keizer, Muhren and many more.........We, The Netherlands, have yet to actually win the WorldCUP as a nation, however I feel talking with people all over the world that we have won with our style of play the harts of all true soccer fans worldwide. And that is priceless.

    Not everyone noticed that some of the off-side traps was false called as the strikers didnt cross the line before their passer touch the ball. Brazil could has scored 2 or 3 goals from those. Beside this violence tackling game would be at least 8 red cards in today standard but the West-German ref might has wanted them to injured each other before playing West Germany in the final. They violence tackle is what stopped Brazil from playing their dribbling game.

    At 1:13 he is actually onside. Pause at 0:43 there's is 5 Dutch players hunting one Brazilian player lol, if the Brazil player simply passed it to the side then Hollands defense could have been sliced open easily. These rash tactics wouldn't work nowadays of course, but the Dutch pressing System (Holland and Ajax) of the early 70's was a catalyst for collective pressing in the modern game.

    The Total Football was not purely Dutch, although it was Ajax that started it. The Germans used it in 1972 at the European championships, but decided not to go on with it. After the loss against East Germany in the first match of the 1974 world cup Beckenbauer forced a change. He wanted football that put the result first. The rest is history.

    The size brings problems of the same magnitude and at the time of the video Brazil had something close to 70 million inhabitants. For this Brazil is capable of forming 10 teams capable of being world champions, but we can only play with one team and many injustices are practiced. I compared only football, reverse the situation, put the Netherlands on the size of Brazil and will have as many problems as its size, but in football never overtake Brazil, but China would be the greatest of all.

    you're right. Brazil 82 had at least one weak point in every line, except midfield. the midfield quarter - Zico, Socrates, Falcao, Cerezo - was so fantastically skillful and brilliant that it sort of 'camouflaged" the grey-spots such as Valdir Perez in the goal, Leandro in the back, and Serginho in attack. It worked until they faced a perfectly balanced and highly motivated Italy, full of players of almost equal quality to that of Brazil.

    The Netherlands team did not even had to win this game to go to the final game
    In WM 1974 for the first time, no 1/4 and 1/2 finals ( also later in 1978 )
    All games were poule games, except the game for 3 and 4 place
    and the final game.

    Primeiro gol falha de leão.E no segundo tento a origem do lance que ocasionou o gol, o jogador estava em impedimento. Zagueiro saiu deixando o holandês em impedimento o bandeira não assinalou; que roubo ein ???

      Foi o maior roubo esse jogo, um monte de lance que o Brasil ia sair na cara do gol, maioria legal e deram impedimento

      Creio que Leão não falhou. O chute foi bem próximo ao gol, bola alta e com efeito.

    I think Holland 1974 were better than Brazil 1982 because they were a more balanced team, that's why they were much better defensively. This Holland team reached the final and only lost by one goal (and one of Germanys goals was a dive for a penalty), on the other hand Brazil conceded 4 goals in the QF.

    I am Brazilian and I say, the selection of Holland was a great team, but his tactic is not perfect, so that never won a world cup. Brazil is five times world champion, after this cup Brazil won two cups and formed two great teams that did not win in 1978 and 1982.
    To be a champion is not enough only tactic, it is necessary tactic, technique, the best players, and the difference is that Brazil and the other not, the beautiful game, and it is our nature.

    This cup teaches Brazil that the referees could win games.
    There are offside errors in all games, plus not punished violence.
    Including in this match.

    Netherlands had a fantastic team no doubt, but for real the linesmen missed some truly outrageous calls right there, I counted 3 clearly wrong offsides there, things could have been really really different

    • @nicolagianaroli2024
      @nicolagianaroli2024 2 года назад

      Exactly. same thing during the final, the third goal by Gerd Muller was absolutely no off-side. In reality Belgium and not Holland should have been in WM74. In the last qualification match at the last minute Holland applied an idiotic off-side totally wrong and Belgium scored. Too bad the referee took the wrong decision and disallowed. The myth of Holland 74 is really a bad one.

      @@nicolagianaroli2024 yeah, i've noticed a lot of times this dutch team actuslly did that quite often and looking back a lot of times the oponent was on side but I guess they had some bias towards this new style and the linesmen always called it offside

    • @nicolagianaroli2024
      @nicolagianaroli2024 2 года назад

      @@Luckymag-if4dw The linesmen were fully unprepared and the dutch took full advantage of it. Was it a breaking moment in football history? Yes. Was the dutch team that superlative? Probably not
