My brother (17) is an 'incel' and I can hear every single word that he says because our rooms are directly next to each other with a very thin wall. It is terrifying and we had so many arguments and he claims he'll never marry or get a wife because he's 'always in the 'friend zone" while simultaneously making fun of everyone who is 'cringe' or 'woke'.
And then there's me, audhd, non-binary and aroace pansexual and very progressive.

There's still a split in the community of... whatever you want to call people who struggle to find their first relationship (from "loveshy" to "incel" to now I'm seeing "older virgin" taking off). It does skew very heavily male, and what I've seen over time is that 1) new forums/subs/channels are formed to talk about solving those problems. 2) Men who've turned their fear and loneliness into toxicity and misogyny take over and become more vocal. 3) This chases away the shy people who know it's their struggle and are just lonely (and often some type of neurodivergent. 4) The community is now a ruined cesspool.

Women also follow Gender roles and stereotypes which contribute indeed to these phenomena. It is debatable if such tendecies are socially learned or biological.
Do you think that the fact that women tend to take less initiative than men or sometimes even expect men to do the first steps (there are data about that) "without putting any work in" is biological or socially learned?
Why data (i'm talking about peer reviewed studies; take 2 second to google it and have thousands of sources) show that women tend to prefer taller men than shorter men? Is it a biological preference or socially learned? Can this perception be changed/influenced? Are the preferences around having a specific type of partner with specific traits (from skin color up to specific cognitive skills - including social ones - or facial trait) all biological or can they be potentially changed?
Why women tend to follow the most femminine style of hair and clothing? Is hairstyle preference and way to dress biological or socially learned? So why they are endorsing such gender expectations and should we do anything to change such tendencies in preferences?
What are the consequences of that tendency?
You will see that the phenomena interplay with a lot of factors and the tendencies of both sexes.

the reality is, i could never presume why the straights do what they do.
why do people dress in a way to find a mate? gee, idk. :3
i'm a bit of an initiator, myself! i usually tell my gal friends "beggars can't be choosers". personally, i've found waiting around means i get hit on by a buncha slimeballs, and then sadly none of the sweethearts approach, or worse, become intimidated! this isn't a men & women issue, this phenomenon bleeds into LGBTQ lives as well.
look, we live in a society, and that means navigating awkward social scenarios. none of us know what we're doing, but hey, kinda going with natural instinct and the prescription that worked for others in our situations is a decent way to at least try! it's just harder to find a place and friends and romance when you are naturally quite different from most other people. it's rough. just gotta try to be decent to others and find the people who accept you for being a little strange.
the whys don't matter so much. i do feel bad for the straights tho. it sounds exhausting.

"When a scientist duty is to doubt"
Which i did, i said that it was debatable that many of such tendencies are exclusively social in nature...because indeed there is an entire scientific debate around Nature vs Nurture in science
      "I'd ask citations"
No problem. There is an entire field in science called Neuroaesthetics that litteraly study our perception of beauty, with some studies having found some sexual dimorphism (which should be the predicted outcome if we assume that Gynophilia and Androphilia are not likely a product of a conscious choice, i.e. if sexual orientation is not a conscious choice* ) , althought the complete etiology of that dimorphism is not clear (Nature or Nurture? If both, in what proportion they play a role?).
RUclips shadowban your previous comment (i.e. i can only see it throught my notifications), so to avoid the same fate i will put the studies and reference titles, not link.
Let's start with the definition and what the field is:
      "Neuroaesthetics", by mimesisjournal
"Effects of sexual dimorphism on facial attractiveness", by D. I. Perrett
*"Sexual orientation and gender identity" American Psychological Association
"Gynephilic Men's and Androphilic Women's Visual Attention Patterns: The Effects of Gender and Sexual Activity Cues" Klarah M K O'Kane
"The brightness dimension as a marker of gender across cultures and age", by Carla Sebastián-Enesco and Gün R. Semin
For General Mating Strategies and Human Mating Strategies there are hell of a lot of studies around our average behavioural tendencies in dating (which some concidently match the ones of other mammals) that i don't know where even begin.
Start from non-peer reviewed sources to have a general idea of what we are talking about. Check the wikipedia pages of "Mate choice" and Human Mating strategies and then check also the videos titled "Male vs Females: Sexual conflict" and "Why males are often more physically aggressive?" to understand how such differences can have evolutionary implications.
I will not flood you with sources (unless you ask me to) but among the peer reviewed ones i will share you the relevant ones that i think are more than enough to get a grasp of my argument.
Peer reviewed sources instead that you can read:
"Strategies of humam mating" by David M. Buss
"Human mating strategies: from past causes to present consequences" by Daniele Marzoli
"I presume we are trying to talk about USA culture"
No, i said culture in general. There are tendencies that are crosscultural, which in fact make the probability that such tendencies are due solely from social influences more unlikely.
"Plenty of societies have women who are the initiators"
Name it: Name one complex society in the entire history where rape, sexual harrasment, sexual advances and initiative are all committed or acted with drammatically higher average onset by women rather than men.
      Spoiler: there are none.
In a relationship survey conducted by shaadi.com, about 90% men said they will make the first move in a relationship. Surprisingly, only 19% women said 'yes' and 10.5% said 'may be' to the question.
This mean that more than 70% of women said no in such situations (which soon you will see that match other datas).
But by already observing the data on specific social phenomena (even extreme ones, such harrasment) and the proportion of men and women in dating sites (see sources below), a person can arrive deductively that men take more initiative than women.
Men tend to have higher average libido.
The reasons why they tend to have higher average libido i.e. higher frequency in desire for sex (which translate in spontaneous desire) is exactly because they need a motivational state to drive such event as it is evolutionary more advantagious for a man to impregnate a lot of women than for a woman to be impregnated by a lot of men (which often reduce to just 1).
For women become more advantagious instead to be more selective.
The fact that men (and males in general) tend to have an higher frequency in libido than females (expecially in terms if spontaneous desire) already suggest that men will seek more sexual encounters on average than their counterparts (which translate in taking more initiative), which already create an imbalance in demand and supply on that specific front (which many marketers and the p*rn industry know, hence why they often tend to target men rather than women [1]).
      [1]
"Gender Differences in P***graphy Consumption among Young Heterosexual Danish Adults", Gert Martin Hald
This already by itself can be a physiological variable that can influence mating strategies and sexual selection (which occured in humans if you acknowledge that male tend to be on average stronger than women; the explaination of the relatioship between sex drive and sexual selection have been redacted on a recent study made on the drosophila [2])
      [2]
"Male Sex Drive and the Maintenance of Sex: Evidence from Drosophila " by Rama S. Singh
In normal conditions there are also effectively more risk for a woman than there are for a man (also in relationship of choosing the wrong partner, as there will be a waste of resources and parental investment), thus it doesn't make sense that nature will not invest any resources to make them more selective (for example by giving them a different frequency/type of libido [3], increasing the onset of anxiety in them to also increase the likehood of risk assessment in specific perceived dangerous conditions [4] [5] [6] and altering the amount of men they found attractive just from first sight - in terms of aestethics and instant physical attractiveness - or increasing the frequency of a different metric of attractiveness [7] [8][9]).

I am someone who has wanted a romantic partner for awhile but never found one, and it can feel very lonely when your friends and family are in relationships, and annoying when they keep asking if you’ve found someone yet. I get what Aromantic people mean to an extent when they say our society is obsessed with relationships and how isolating it can feel when you aren’t in one.
However, Incels are much more aggressive because they feel like sex is something owed to them or that it’s not fair since they haven’t needed to be a good person to succeed at something before - and they are very dangerous as their incel behaviour compounds their loneliness and bitterness.
I just wish many incels would go to therapy or open their echo chambers just enough to hear the whispers of reality, so they don’t have to be bitter lonely people anymore. It’s just sad in many ways.

However, the attitude of many incels perpetuate ideas that women only exist for sex/relationships. Being nb and apart of the trans community has lead me to see how fragile and minor the differences are compared to how major everyone seems to act like they are. Monolithic stereotypes don’t really work when gender breaks down and you see how much differences are artificially perpetuated by socialization and society. im fairly active on inceltear and as horrible as the things youve shown are, thats like level 1 stuff out of 10. these people are INSANE. ive had a fair share of DMs from incels with some saying just atrocious things, ironically insulting my disabilities (even tho a lot of them blame their disabilities for not being able to get laid) but the most interesting thing about them is that most of them haven't actually been rejected that much. a lot of them have never even tried to get to know and ask out a girl and others have only done so a few times and took 2-3 rejections as "ALL women are worthless and will never love me and its their fault." they're insane people. also, if incels manage to find this, RIP your DMs.
note that ive only talked to incels because im interested in them psychologically. when they msg me i end up asking a lot of questions but they never have any accountability. when i ask them why they think women reject them its either looks, height, or no answer they can think of. it's just so crazy how their minds work.

    • @Mel-gl2zg
      @Mel-gl2zg Год назад

@KC Yeah we really do need to collectively stop the notion “boys will be boys” and raise them to be accountable for their actions and behavior, because there doesn’t seem to be enough of that.
Unfortunately, at least according to popular media and many polls, women do prefer taller men (taller than them, the 6’+ only thing is fiction) so for a guy who’s 5’5” or less dating can be harder but /obviously/ not impossible. They’re like a student who gets a D on their first test and then just gives up even though there’s ample opportunity to do better in the future.
They also base the lives of women after very attractive women. They deluded themselves into thinking 100% of women have an easy life, get assured jobs/money/marriage even ugly ones. It’s absurd and they make up these stories about how all women have it easy and all go for attractive men only and I guess feel jealousy for this supposed easy life women have? It’s just so strange

    • @ArjanHarre

@KC ... Just imagine for a minute that a world exists that is geared almost entirely for "other people". Where for the first part of your life you are surrounded by those "other people" who teach you that what you are and can not control is bad and that you should be more like those "other people", that anything that comes naturally to you is "toxic" or "Entitled" and that you have nothing to add, should make room for and should be quiet because you are an oppressor at best and quite possibly an evil criminal. Then imagine that you have this urge to be with those people even after all of that but get constantly rejected.
Given the above scenario (if that world exists) do you think that someone would feel good or bad about themselves and have resilience, or would they just give up?

It eventually worked out for me, and I’m in a happy and mutually satisfying relationship with someone I plan to marry. But if I’d given up because my first efforts at dating didn’t go well, I’d still be wallowing in my failure.
Of course, if you’ve been told so often by a bunch of GUYS that “women NEVER experience rejection because guys have no standards and will sleep with any woman when they get the chance, so women have limitless options” that you don’t believe me, there’s probably nothing I can say to convince you. I’d just urge you to reflect on why it is that you trust a group of thoroughly miserable men to tell you about women’s experiences, more than women ourselves. Because I’m telling you right now, our lives are not some unending stream of romantic interest where everyone we ever love or want loves or wants us back. @@Bug_in_a_log it’s extremely painful, it’s a black hole that lets no light escape. You convince yourself that no one will love you because of something physically wrong with you, no one will love you so what’s the point in trying. When I was an incel I remember isolating myself in my room with as little light as possible, crying, bawling my eyes out because I wasn’t worthy of the love of another human, I drank copious amounts of alcohol because at least the loneliness and pain became indistinguishable from one another. When I was an incel, I never once thought I was owed, or entitled to something, my heart would hurt…”I’m not good enough for love, and I am sorry for existing” I thought

I wouldn't call what you had as "incel" bc you were and are self aware enough, you just needed to find a way and you did.

      Makes you an absolute CHAD

12:30 I'm actually writing a story about this RN. I feel like men often think we have things "easy", but that's because they haven't lived the dehumanizing experience of being a woman. Being a woman and surviving in this world often means having to sacrifice your dignity and being submissive and humilliated, maybe by allowing someone to belittle you or even...sacrificing your s*xual health, like often happens in relationships with incels. It truly can be such a frustrating demeaning experience that these people think we choose, because they're not considering 1 how our bodies work, how we're not as strong as men and often can't "fight back" or hoe we often have to rely on someone else's strenght 2 how the world percieves us (because these people themselves are part of that world). I don't think men have it easier than us, but I do often wish I had the choice to buy my freedom

Yeah they probably do assume you have it easier as they have not lived the life of a woman, who do you think has it easier?

@@jasonpickles2576 Well yeah ofc, they could listen to what we say too tho, it ain't that hard. Idk if anyone has it easier, I just think that men do have more power, which makes them have quite a lot of advantages over women, but that being said, that does mean they have more pressure on their shoulders. Great power takes great responsability! As a woman, I'd take that deal without any doubt, but idk if it means it's easier or not. Imo is kind of a pointless comparison and it's much better to just focus on what is hurting us both in our culture

I was once told by a guy that it's much easier for women to be hot because they just have to not be fat slobs who shovel food in their face all day, where as men have to work on getting ripped...and this was on a weight-loss forum!
I about laughed so hard I started wheezing!
Even the other men on the forum started making fun of him for that because they were actual grown ups who'd had the experience of going on a weight-loss plan as a couple, and losing 20 lbs in a month while their wife lost 6!
