you have to to get a perfect performance. when you're recording, the best thing, and i mean the most important and crucial part, is a perfect initial recording/performance. that old adage 'you can't polish a turd' is so true here. and this dude feels it like his career depends on it, like his life depends on it, and that's the big industry secret. amazing stuff

I’ve only known of Justin and Tallah for less than a month, and he is already my favourite vocalist of all time.
This was me back when I first discovered Justin (Although it was more like it took less than a week, and I also found him before Tallah).

It´s even better than studio version!
It is not as difficult as it seems. Before we record, I practice the song a bunch from start to finish so I can do it without issues. When we track the vocals, I record AT LEAST an entire verse at a time, and I tell the engineers not to tune my vocals, not to over-compress them, not to add any extra layers that will make me sound over-processed, etc. The goal is to keep the vocal tracks as raw and real as possible... because I can mimic that live. I cannot mimic over-processed, perfectly tuned bullshit. Nobody can. Perfection is for machines.

After we record and I get the mix back, I listen to it a ton, memorize the majority of my inflections/delivery, and I practice it even more-usually while moving around a lot to make it more difficult for myself, that way it is EASIER under more relaxed conditions. As I begin to know my vocal parts inside and out, I usually find little things I like to change/tweak, but the goal is to get the live performance as close to the studio version as possible in one take. To me, that is a successful vocalist. It is not about the range, techniques, or passion. It is about being able to mimic the studio version of yourself without lip-syncing, pitch-correcting, or cheating.

I'm essentially doing a cover of myself, and by having everything as raw and authentic as possible without jeopardizing the track/mix, I create an opportunity to only have to compete with myself from the past, and if I am practicing a ton and practicing in difficult conditions, which I am, I should be able to AT LEAST match the studio version each time I perform it, if not topping it entirely.

You need to be hyper-critical of yourself. You can NEVER be satisfied with your best. Once you become satisfied, you stagnate, and then others will eventually outshine you. Stay hungry.

I have been doing vocals for thirteen years.
People compliment me nonstop, they call me a god, they call me a king, they tell me I'm the best, but I do not see it at all, and I never will. That character-flaw pushes me beyond my limits, and THAT is what I want. I do not care if I lose my voice. I do not care if I can never sing/scream again. I will keep going until there is nothing left, and then I will find something else to do, and nobody can stop me, because at the end of the night, none of this is important to me. Well all die one day, and I want to die knowing I shined so bright, I blew the fuck out.

Red Light is probably my favorite song off the album! The new album is probably one of my favorite albums of 2020! Great job guys! I don't know if Slipknot from the early days were any inspiration for the sound of this album but I genuinely thought when listening to the album that it brought back the intensity and heaviness of Slipknot's "Slipknot/Self Titled" and "Iowa". Great album guys!
