Wow, I’m amazed at her progress!! Not only she expresses her opinions flawlessly, but she can talk back to Jun-san!I appreciate your dedication living in Japanese surroundings. And my preschool kids enjoys this video maybe because they regard Mina-chan as cool “えいごのおねぇちゃん” 💕 I have one subtle question. I heard “calpis” is called “Calpico” in other countries because it sounds “cow pis*” for native speakers😅 How much do you fix the names of Japanese products? Do you feel a little strange when you encounter something that is called differently?
Cow piss! 😂 Having grown up a bilingual myself, it no longer bothers me when I hear certain words or product names sounding strange in a different language. But if, let's say, Mina was traveling abroad or communicating with people from non-Japanese countries, I would make sure to teach her not to say "Calpis" unless she wants to be laughed at 😅 (She's also old enough to realize how gross-sounding it is.) This video also reminded me that I need to teach her the difference between "cider" and "soda"! I'm so happy to hear your preschoolers enjoyed watching Mina on screen. Thank you all for your continued support! I hope all is going well with your bilingual parenting ✨
This is so encouraging. I have a daughter 5 years old. I speak to her in English, and she speaks to her mother in Japanese. Our language at home WAS 100% until she turned 5, when she suddenly asked me, “why are we speaking in English?” and she started to talk to me in Japanese. I still continue to reading books to her, and she still enjoys it.
Thank you for your comment! Mina also went through a similar phase but I just kept talking to her in English and it has now become the norm for us. The most important thing is to make it fun, whether that's chatting, reading, or playing games in English. At the end of the day, the time spent together will be the most rewarding for both parent and child. Best of luck!
Oh, my!!!! I am so happy to meet your family!!! I was almost got stuck with my おうちえいご but now I have you!!! Are you planning to meet-up sometime in the future???
Thank you for your comment! We are so glad you found us! Our aim is to provide English conversation exposure in a fun way and support all families that pursue おうち英語✨ For now, we don't have any plans for a meet-up, but we will certainly consider it if there is enough demand 😅
Loved "Wow, you're such a grown up♡" I always enjoy watching your kids grow Junsan:) My son and I sometimes get those strange looks too but he seems that he doesn't care at all. I guess he's too young to realize that our language environment is pretty rare here in Japan. As he starts going to elementary school next month, he might start saying something though. And it is just amazing how much time you spend on studying at home not forcing the kids to but in a fun way. I should learn from you.😂
Hiya! Thank you for watching our video! I don't know how well sarcasm translates to a bilingual child, but I love teasing Mina like that 😂 It's not always sunshine and roses when it comes to studying. I sometimes have to force her to sit down and do the work. Now that it is part of our morning routine, it's much easier. But the poor thing has so much on her plate that I feel bad sometimes. I do try to make it as fun as possible but it takes a lot of 工夫 and patience! Your son will be an elementary schooler soon! Teito too! It's going to be a big change but I'm sure with the parents' love and support, they'll do great ✨ Hoping our bilingual parenting will keep going well 👍
She is amazing in this video. To be honest I thought her English was worse than this. Dad works full time and mom doesnt speak English, so I thought she doesnt get enough English time. But here in this video she is expressing subtle things like father-son relationships. Is that because she is reading books? At this point in development reading may be the key to level up her speaking. Reading books at 8 yo is simply awsome.
My thoughts exactly! Reading books has helped her linguistic abilities in many ways. As she continues to read (hopefully), I'm hoping some of the small grammatical mistakes will be corrected. I have started teaching her some grammar rules like subject-verb agreement, but through books, shows and our daily interactions, she is already able to form some rather natural sentences. Thank you for all your support and I hope I can continue to share Mina's English progress 😀✨

Mina
Such a lovely video 😍Thank you for sharing to us.
Thank you so much ❤️ It was a lot of fun hanging out with my daughter 😁

4:09 that's a lot!! lol
😁 Dads really know how to embarrass their daughters!
