In this video (created in collaboration with Adobe), take the journey with our own Todd Blankenship as he has a blast experimenting using miniatures for visual effects and compositing. While trying to find ways to think outside of the box with various uses for miniature work, he gives you the scoop on some compositing tricks and ways to get more out of the different looks you can create.
This video is part of a larger series with more in-depth how-to versions of some of the effects shown here. bit.ly/3z78sCZ

As someone who has extensive experience with miniatures I'd suggest two basic paintings techniques that can produce realistic visual results: washes to replicate shadows and dry brushing to reproduce highlights. Both methods can be used for weathering as well.
Hey what kind of experience do you have I would love to make a miniature movie if i can by possibly end of 2025-2026
33,191 views is a shame. RUclips sucks.
Well done! keep those old techniques alive.
Well this is just amazing. A perfect blend of entertainment and education - need more from this crew!
Hey this is dope, great work Todd!
Definitely more from these guys, please.
Back in the day we used to call those multiple angle shots an animation, I use a lazy Suzanne wheel from the hardware store ,a piece of plexiglass mounted on top and then make a degree wheel.
Useful if you’re gonna do pre-vis, stop-motion or something quirky that lives in between. Actual feature films use to (some still do) incorporate this technique all the time. Awesome! Now I’m off to watch Blood Machines
Nice job! I guess for miniatures it is 'thinking INSIDE the box' :D Because of miniatures!
Great job! Very inspiring and insightful
🔥🔥🔥 This is awesome!
I'm no movie maker but the little I know about making movies, i think miniatures are the best for practical effects they're cheap and can be easily enhanced with VFX as supposed to big studio assets IMO.
Awesome work!!
this is a fun idea!
This is awesome I must confess!
Miniature Effects are still better than CGI
Very cool!
Looks fantastic. Where did you buy those snap together buildings?
Righteous man!!!!
Great shot! Can you do a review of all the tools you use to make miniatures?
Very educational
Hey, where did you find the buildings? I'm looking for exactly that kind of thing.
Very nice video btw!
Would love to know too :)
Not sure why my second answer got deleted (maybe because of the link) but I found the buildings on AliExpress.
@@moewe040 do you have some keywords to search? Thank you for your time!
@@zsigmondkara I can't seem to post the item number - my comment got deleted again. You have an Instagram Account where I can message you? Spoiler alert: The items are out of stock unfortunately - but im pretty sure those are the buildings used in the video.
Good talk. Imagine that, importing live photos into games...
