i recently bought the suruchi theme for an ecommerce website, and i tried to install the demo preset as shown in this video, but the changes aren't being reflected. i don't understand the issue.

You need to first extract/unzip the theme package that you downloaded from Themeforest. The theme folder contains the installation file.
