- Christopher Ward's C1 Moonphase takes lunar watches to a whole new level. Crafted after the acclaimed C9 Moonphase and C1 Moonglow, this latest release is their most ambitious yet.
The dial, featuring aventurine glass infused with reflective copper oxide flakes, mimics the enchanting starry night sky. What makes each piece truly special is that every aventurine dial is unique.
Setting itself apart from earlier models, the C1 Moonphase ditches adornments like indexes and logos, placing the spotlight squarely on the sleek handset and the oversized moon.
Speaking of the moon, it's a whopping 25% larger than its predecessor, the C1 Moonglow. The rotating moons, crafted from Globolight (a ceramic and Super-LumiNova mix), can be carved into any shape. A four-color print of the real moon adds a remarkably accurate three-dimensional touch, surpassing the C1 Moonglow. Plus, in the dark, its glow is a captivating white, deviating from the typical green.

Good review Sam! I had the old C9 moonphase in blue and that was a perfect everyday wear. I like the aesthetic here, but leaving Swiss Made on the dial without CW text or indices/markers is a miss. And I love their Bader deployant clasp as well-it’s better than Omega’s design.
Never considered CW but I’d buy this watch at 37mm

Watch arrived today. It's a beautiful piece, but the clasp on the leather strap isn't very secure.
@@stewartmckeand8953you most likely do not have the strap fully inserted into the clasp. I did the same thing at first. The strap has to be forced into the rails of the clasp. If it’s not seated in there, it flops around and does not let the clasp perform the way it should.

Very interesting watch and lovely dial but the case/size just doesn’t mirror the dressy style of the dial for me.
Missed the boat on this one. If it had small indicies and the hands were lumed it would be easily the standout moonphase to get.

Dude if you want the 36mm they are also releasing the C63 Celest (the one I'm likely going to buy), no moonphase but very nice nonetheless

CW trying to make really cool watches and the dial does indeed look fantastic... but I can't see the hands properly. That would annoy me.
Slight movement of your wrist and they appear. No biggie!
Beautiful watch- Too thick for me, would like to see a thinner model with less separation between the two dials. I'd be willing to pay for those improvements.
Great review of an incredible watch. The moonphase complication is pretty useless for myself, but non the less it does look beautiful. Seen a few moans about lack of indices but why not delete the second hand too and keep it super clean? Still a watch that tells you the approximate time, good enough for me. 🤩
Definitely agree with you about the second hand. My Montblanc Orbis Terrarum does not have a second hand, and I do not miss it.
As far as the “SWISS MADE” on the dial. It is small enough that it is barely noticeable. I have no issue with it. I have had my C1 Moonphase for 4 days now. Beautiful, beautiful watch! Not an everyday wearer, though, in my opinion.

I have an Aventurine face watch. Pictures and video just don't convey how the face is alive and dances with sparkling star effect. I would like to go and see one in person and on my wrist before passing judgement.

With these type of base movements I would much prefer a engraved solid case back. CW doing great things otherwise.
The one thing I really hate about this watch:- if someone told me it was a £20 watch I would believe them. If someone told me it was £20k watch I would also believe them. It just looks cheap and expensive at the same time to me.
Novelty, luxury watch. High price to pay, but the proof will be in how it sells.
People complaining about no indices would do themselves a favor buying more practical Apple Watch
As opposed to buying any other watch that has indices? Nearly every single other Christopher Ward watch has indices. You could do yourself a favour by checking out their website and seeing.

We have probably not done one for a year or so. It got difficult with me moving to a different time zone and Kris started a new job. I keep thinking about spinning it back up again, I really enjoyed doing them but honestly, it was a lot of effort for something that was not revenue-generating.
Setting moon phase is a nightmare and you cannot see the hands well enough to tell time, but otherwise, sure, smashing. 😂
Setting moonphase is not a nightmare, sorry. A moonphase app on your phone helps you set it. Pull crown out to first click, rotate dial backwards! Hardly a nightmare!
It looks like a plastic disc dipped in glitter. It has more of a Mr Jones vibe to it.

I love CW and I own some but this is a cheap Moser, and way to expensive. Not sure where they are going lately with the movado twelve and now that...
More in line with a lesser Arnold and Son moon phase.
13.3mm is definitely too thick for a dress watch. no way around it....
CW have never failed to hit the bullseye for years now, but I just don’t like this at all. The hands aren’t readily visible, the discs look cheap. I much prefer the old Moonglow. I really like CW, but you’ve got to call what you see. Sorry Mike.

Nope, Moonglow is definitely better in every way.
It's ok at best. The sparkly dial is a bit much. It's also taken away the "can wear it anywhere" aspect of the watch. The Moonglow could be worn for any ocassion and be a conversation piece. The moon seems to have less definition which is odd for a Moon watch. Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but the Moonglow appears to be much better done.
It's a nice watch, but I'll stick with the Moonglow.

I actually have both watches, and they’re both beautiful and unique in their own way. Moonglow is definitely more of an everyday wearer. Moonphase more dressy and a show off piece.
Hmm, not very legible and I don't really like that dial or the hands to be honest. It kind of looks like cheap bling, although I'm sure it feels better in the hand.
