  • How to edit citation and bibliography or create your own style using CSL editor in mendeley reference manager?
To edit citations and bibliography styles or create your own style using the CSL (Citation Style Language) editor in Mendeley, you can follow these steps:
Open Mendeley Desktop and click on "View" in the top menu bar.
From the drop-down menu, select "Citation Style" and then choose "More Styles..." at the bottom of the list.
The Mendeley Citation Style window will open, displaying a list of installed citation styles. Click on "Get More Styles" at the bottom-left corner of the window.
This will open the Mendeley CSL Style Repository in your web browser. Use the search bar or browse through the categories to find the citation style you want to edit or create a new one.
Once you have identified the style, click on it to open the style details page. Here, you'll find information about the style, including the creator, description, and a preview of the citation and bibliography format.
To edit an existing style, click on the "Edit Style" button located on the right side of the page. This will open the CSL editor.
In the CSL editor, you can modify the citation and bibliography formatting according to your requirements. The editor provides a visual representation of the style, along with the underlying code. You can make changes using the available options and syntax.
If you want to create a new style, click on the "New Style" button on the style details page. This will open a blank CSL editor where you can start building your custom citation style from scratch.
After making the desired changes or creating a new style, click on the "Save" button in the CSL editor.
Close the CSL editor and return to the Mendeley Citation Style window. You should now see the edited or newly created style listed under "My Styles."
To apply the modified or new style, go back to Mendeley Desktop and click on "View" in the top menu bar. Select "Citation Style" and then choose the desired style from the "Installed" or "My Styles" section.
By following these steps, you can edit existing citation styles or create your own styles using the CSL editor in Mendeley.

Make sure that the reference type you entered was not a webpage..if so, then change it to a book or journal type.

Hi! What if I need to change in the references style to, for example name to Hofstede, G. (2011) instead of author full name, article name and date after it?

Hi. If you’re modifying a reference style, under visual editor, in bibliography, under group, you can change the order of these bibliographical elements. Same way, you can modify the inline citations.

Hi, I am a Ph.D. research scholar who is struggling with Mendeley software. The paper was accepted, but the citation style did not match the journal's, so I am trying to modify it with Mendeley. You explained very nicely, and it was very useful. But I have a few doubts and want to do it in the mentioned style. Acta Pharmaceutica Sinica B. Could you please help me out, I would really appreciate it.

First search in the directory, whether the citation style is readily available by default. Check out this video, ruclips.net/video/FKqPU5oKMAY/видео.html
If that's not available there, work on CSL editor. check how the citation appears and modify accordingly. If you have any doubts specifically, i am ready to help..

Thank you for the reply. It's already there but does not match the existing journal format. I worked in CSL, but page numbers are in brackets. How can I sort that.@@SPMResearchwithDrRockBritto

Just checked it.. acta pharmaceutica sinica b doesn't have page number in brackets. If it present, you need to click on example bibliography, click on the page number, down you will see affixes. Take out the prefix and affix brackets. Or add if you want. Ensure the same for all the type of reference eg, book, journal etc.

"Campbell JL., Pedersen OK. The varieties of capitalism and hybrid success. Comp Polit Stud 2007;40:307-32." With your guidance, I made it exactly like APSB. But when I paste this link into Word, it does not come like this. Everything was perfect, but the page does not appear in Word. Any insights from your side. "

With your guidance I make the APSB citation style "Campbell JL., Pedersen OK. The varieties of capitalism and hybrid success. Comp Polit Stud 2007;40:307-32."
When I paste the link in the Mendeley cite in Word, the page numbers are not coming. "Swetha K., Kotla NG., Tunki L., Jayaraj A., Bhargava SK., Hu H., et al. Recent Advances in the Lipid Nanoparticle-Mediated Delivery of mRNA Vaccines. Vaccines (Basel) 2023;11."
      Any insights, please...@@SPMResearchwithDrRockBritto

Visual editor> Style> Load style> CSL file of your style need to be loaded. For that, CSL format of your custom style need to be downloaded and saved as CSL file. This is very easiest way. But the style is saved in CSL editor site. I am not able to find the route to retrieve it from the site..
