The riff you're trying to remember is from Michael Jackson's "Beat It." Miyako wrote it as a tribute to one of her guitar heroes Jennifer Batten. Although Steve Lukather plays the riff on the original album recording, Jennifer was Michael's guitarist for awhile and played it live. Interestingly, when I first heard this song, it wasn't Beat It that came to mind, but rather "Back on the Road Again" by REO Speedwagon. Parts of the song also give me Visual Lies-era Lizzy Borden vibes.
Great reaction. I like how you really get Miyako. Other comments have already filled in what else I was going to say. This performance is in my top ten favorites, it is so good. 🎹🎤🎸🐺🤘
My view of Miyako: She's dialed in AF when on that stage. She has relaxed more with time but that's just who she is. You watch her self-made videos and it's all about her working harder, doing more to get better. Gotta love the modesty that oozes from her; considering she's a once in a lifetime talent, just my opinion. And she's definitely a jokester off stage. 😊 Backing vocals really hit hard with this one. Some say Michael Jackson or REO Speedwagon inspired riff. Keep it going! You want a real tearjerker, Journey to the Otherside. Miho wrote it for her dad who passed away way too early. Difficult song to watch and you'll love Asami even more. 🤘
Thanks for continuing with Lovebites. I hope you get better soon! I agree with you about Miyako's style---no need to make faces or jump around. Her music speaks for itself. All of them are Jedi-level musicians. I don't think there has ever been another band quite like this.
you are one of those who get miyako- so many have said she looks cold and expressionless . you on the other hand see the raw emotion in her demeanor. she gets carried away with what she is playing - i saw it right from the start.
Miyako's beautiful and haunting piano intro is Rachmaninoff's "Moment Musicaux Op. 16 No. 4 in E Minor". That main riff you heard in this song is derived from Michael Jackson's "Beat It" (didn't it just drive you mad when it sounded so familiar and yet you couldn't figure it out 😆). Jennifer Batten was MJ's session lead guitarist who performed with MJ on all 3 of his world tours in the '90s. Batten is one of Miyako's guitar influences and Miyako composed & arranged this track that included a derivation of that main riff as an homage to Batten. BTW, if you want to watch a bluesy/jazzy Miyako & Asami duet, you should check out the acoustic version of Lovebites' "Rising" : ruclips.net/video/-ZLUdCgJmjw/видео.html
Funny you should mention asami and Miyako tearing it up in a jazz bar… check out the acoustic version of Rising they did together… just Miyako on the keys and Asami sat next to her with the mic, with an intimate rendition. Thoroughly enjoying your journey so far with these ladies, and there is still so much more to come. Yeah that riff is most recognisable from Michael Jackson but can be traced back originally to REO Speedwagon’s Back On The Road Again, even so far as the trademark squeal at the end of the phrase. Looking forward to the next one 😁 Edit: you almost accidentally started watching it at the end… not ready 😂
RUclips switched to exactly that video after this! He says "I'm not ready for this", but he will be, if he watches OMV and/or official live video before that...
Empty Daydream is another one of Miyakos songs. Wait until you hear and see live their powerful thrash metal songs-thats gonna be badass. But you re on a good path-just dont stop bro. ROCK ON!
@@Ravage-Mike-Reacts yeah - set the world on fire is what a lot of reactors start their LOVEBITES journey with. it really shows their musical potential between the solos and asami's bruce dickinson vocals. and yet at the same time it fools you when you start to hear the amazing variety of styles they have. imo their finest power metal song is another one that first time reactors see a lot of the time. it's 'holy war' live. not a cover of megadeth's 'holy wars' this song is pure LOVEBITES at their best : ruclips.net/video/bgAxpEpEcno/видео.html
That following video ("Rising", Acoustic live version 2020 with Asami & Miyako) was the video I was thinking about, when you said "Jazz club". You may be right that you "are not (yet) ready for that", but soon you will be! Absolutely recommended. Could be easier to watch the OMV (2018) first, and maybe the official live video (2023/24)...
Asami and Miyako playing in a cozy jazz bar you say, Michael? As you probably know, Asami did sing straight up lounge music before LOVEBITES. This is her first encounter with metal. That was my thought the first time I heard it. But it's actually Michael Jackson "Beat It." MJ's long-time guitarist Jennifer Batten is one of Miyako's favorite guitarists, so she included the riff as a nod to her (although Jennifer doesn't play it on the original studio recording, but rather Steve Lukather).
The usage of the keyboard by Miyako is what ties the 3 "E" songs together.
LOVEBITES - Empty Daydream lyrics & credits:
Memories I can’t erase still haunting me
Silently you stare with cold, empty eyes
Falling down
Breaking heart
A growing addiction
Just let me go away
Just let me go my way
Just let me go, I won’t become a doll you control
I’m losing sight of me
I’m losing sight of you
I’m losing sanity and I don’t know how I will go on
Nothing new, pretending not to know the truth
Rendezvous, without emotion or heart
I won’t show how weak and sad I am inside
Even though I know it’s just silly pride
Empty room
Endless rain
The end of a daydream
You never call my name
You never feel the same
You never make me feel like I deserve any love
I’m waiting for the dawn
I’m waiting for the time
I’m waiting for my bleeding heart to heal,
so I can go on
SOLO: miyako / midori / miyako / both
Memories I can’t erase still haunting me
Silently you stare with cold, empty eyes
Falling down
Breaking heart
A growing addiction
Empty room
Endless rain
The end of a daydream
Just let me go away
Just let me go my way
Just let me go, I won’t become a doll you control
I’m losing sight of me
I’m losing sight of you

Reo Speedwagon - Back On The Road Again...
Many people said the riff inspired from Beat It by MJ...

this song shows that Miyako can do anything...the vocals she was pulling in the end...good grief, that woman...what?!

someone once said Miyako shows no emotion, I told told them they needed to open their ears, and to how she plays. she can get very emotional.
I guess the closest to a late night jazz bar performance would be the accoustic version of Raising with Miyako and Asami that you caught at the end.😊
