Brava, Jennifer! - the pain, the emotion delivered via that song was pure high art expressed as an actresses and vocally - Jennifer you are a treasure and loved as a singer performer supreme - Brava!!!!
That subtle change combined with the different music styles really puts an opposing spin on the same situation. One of the reasons why I love the story that this song tells. To me it always sounded like one or both of the lovers has to leave town soon and they know this can't last.
Wooooo ! She was fabulous with this song and she's absolutely beautiful with her vocal range . And to the ones saying she's "yelling" that's a strong, church voice she has and she's an amazing performer. I saw her on Broadway a few years ago when she was in "The Color Purple 🟣💜 " play and she was magnificent in that also . And I love her talk show , too .
Jennifer you are so great with an amazing feeling !!! All your pain and treasure is in your voice. I REALLY LOVE TO LISTEN YOU !!!! You are my Inspiration....
Jennifer's vocal quality is precious, soft, variegated and wonderful, but I think that the dance version proposed by Beyoncè gives the song an extra edge...
The problem is that Effie put her heart and soul in to the song. The Disco version while it's fine for a dance, there was no raw emotion on Deena and the Dreamgirls part.
@@ladyfire44 Yet it was still an amazing dance/disco/club song. You can say whatever you want but Dina put her own spin on it & made it a fierce remix..💃🕺🙌🏼💖
So, here's something that got me thinking: Beyoncé sang this song like she left her heart and soul at home, and yet, she totally crushed it. It's like a showcase of her insane talent. But now, enter Jennifer Hudson, who took the same song and poured every ounce of her heart and soul into it, and it seemed effortless for her. Beyoncé goes soulless, while Jennifer Hudson goes all-in with the soul.
That's the point of the movie. Effie's voice is soulful, while Deena's voice is much more commercial, which is why Curtis pushes her to the front of the Dreams - he knows larger audiences will flock to the lighter voiced, slimmer (and in this adaptation, fairer-skinned) Deena than the more soulful and full-figured Effie simply because Deena's voice is better suited for the genres that larger audiences prefer.
Because Bey's version was based on the one night stand culture of the time. Jennifer's version was about the loss of love that couldn't be. One is based love, the latter is based on lust.
@@beasaroseco5840 This song has been in my playlist since I was 16 and I think the reason why is because of how it portrays the different sides of the same situation: a one-night stand. I often imagine both versions as being sung by the same person: Effie's is the hurt she truly feels while Deena's is the unbothered facade she puts on, or Effie's is a heartbreaking formative experience while Deena's is some years later after she's been jaded. Particularly in the musical version, where Deena's version keeps the forlorn lyrics of the bridge and the disco style can't fully strip it of its emotional impact, I detect some concealed/dressed-up sadness in Deena's version, showing a woman who's partying away the feelings she's shoved down.
Actually, her tone lays between Aretha and Patti Labelle😂 Her headvoice is as powerful as Labelle's even if she under utilizes them and she's got Aretha's Soul
Curtis was a massive dick to pull this move on Effie. Jenifer version make me get into my feelings and Beyoncé version make me want to hit the club love both version
Truth and fiction overlap -- this kind of thing was somewhat common, for multiple artists to do the same songs, but one particular example is 'I Heard it Through The Grapevine' - Marvin Gaye's version is the one most people think of first, but Gladys Knight and the Pips were the first to release it. Berry Gordy put out Marvin's version TWO WEEKS after Gladys. She was not thrilled, especially because they were label mates.
Well, Beyonce as always sounds perfect and commercial as in all of her songs, that's why Jennifer's version is better for me, you can hear and feel real emotions. Jennifer is mesmerizing in this, while Beyonce sings everything the same way.
This song has been in my playlist for years and my imagination has applied it to multiple different stories, and I've often imagined both versions as being sung by the same woman. I've imagined Effie's version as the woman singing about a formative experience that broke her heart, and Deena's version being the same woman a couple of years later when she's detached/jaded and pretending that this is all a good time. That, or they could even be the same woman singing about the same situation, with Deena's version being the unbothered facade that she puts on but Effie's version being the hurt she truly feels.
While i do like the Disco version, nothing tops Jennifer’s version. You can feel the pain and emotion like she really killed it. But I believe that’s the point also. They steal her song that has the soul and meaning and turn it into something that’s trending so it’ll sell.
17 yrs later and one can't sell an album or single to save their life, while the other is legend. Both of the songs Beyonce did outstreamed and outsold. Listen was the biggest hit of the movie. Which is why its still being sung in competitions etc. While the other has become a relic. Which is why ill never take youtube comments seriously.
I sense a hater. Jennifer Hudson hasn't released an album in 10 years because she's busy in other lanes. Also, "And I'm Telling You I'm Not Going" was obviously the biggest hit of the movie.
I think the difference of the two version is that beyonce sang faster than jennifer so you can hear clearly the clarity of jennifer's voice especially with high pitch so i definitely like jennifers voice here
Everybody knows the disco version is superior. Yall just saying the other one because of the story. But song for the song it’s not even a comparison lol
Jennifer Hudson she has incredible voice perfectly in this movie like Judy holiday she is big highest big strong voice ever i known her on American idol Neil it bravo elxent she did next musical movie it's respect from by queen of soul Aretha Franklin Jennifer Hudson she has incredible amazing strongest bigsed voice the best ever hit highset bigsed note she hit it like Jennifer Hudson from two musical movies like dreamgrials and respect
Jhud most definitely! Same song two different vocalist. Jhuds was acoustic and you were able hear the vocals. The disco version you couldn’t here the vocals due to the background instrumental.
And the Oscar’s goes to…❤ the disco version rocks too, I’d love to hear beyonce sing this and not enunciate the last vowel so closed, it makes the disco sound modern and not free flowing.
Jennifer Hudson sing really with her Soul....Beyoncé sing Like a backing vocal .nothing else !! Her husband make a lot if money with her body but her VOICE..juste they make buisenesd HUDSON STAY FOR EVER LIKE ARETHA... THIS IS THE DIFFÉRENCE ❤❤❤😂😂😂🎉
jennifer: we've got one night only lets go slow drink some champagne and chill beyonce : we've got one night only lets go to the club dance it up then go back to my place LOL🤣🤣🤣😂😂
I really prefer beyoncé verson, sure Jennifer is so emocional but beyonce is more detailed, the melismas, and appoggiaturas (Riffs and runs), Beyoncé is more technicalist and Jennifer more emotional

Two exceptional vocalists! Two wonderful versions of the same song.
You have to pick a side sorry
@@lovethefieldsDefinitely Jennifer this time

I sort of prefer the disco version because that’s one of my favorite genres of music. Jennifer’s is still really good

Jennifer in all honesty the stronger singer.❤❤❤
Love Jennifer Hudson singing it, she put more emotion into the song.
Curtis didn't care about that 😂
It’s the ideia, one more emotional and one more danceable (disco)

Ooh...yes God!
Effy White had DEPTH. Deena Jones had mass appeal....
Effie sings, "YOU'VE got one night only," while Deena sings, "I'VE got one night only."
Great observation
