  • When driving to a riding destination isn't possible, boxing your mountain bike up is the only way to bring your trusty steed along for the journey. We've done everything from shove our bikes in hockey gear bags to cardboard boxes and now we're here to test some of the most popular mountain bike bags for traveling with your bike.
    As part of our Bike Park Review Tour, we decided to hit the East Coast to explore some new bike parks and downhill bike terrain that we'd been hearing about for way too long. Thanks to our friends at Competitivecyclist.com we were able to get some brand new bags to test out and make this video.
    We shipped these bikes across the country twice and drug them all over the East Coast too.
    During our tour we normally drive to our locations but due to summer's rapid end we decided to fly and save ourselves some time. We teamed up with Bike Flights to ship our bikes so we could avoid the ridiculous and uncertain baggage fees that come with flying your bike. By using bikeflights.com we were able to ensure our bikes for the full amount they're worth, avoid dragging large bike bags through the airport and save money on a rental car by having the bikes delivered right to our hotel.
    So, how did the bike bags do at protecting our cherished steeds? Give a watch and find out.

    DAKINE BAG IS UPDATED! big tough pads where wheel axles contact the bag. In my opinion it’s a clear best budget pick!! Got mine on sale for 340 and it fits my xl sentinel, check your wheelbase not all bags are up on the latest geo!!

      @@spacefacts2553 that I don't know but the inside of the one I just picked up was white instead of that silver and it had the extra pad for the axle

      I can confirm I have the camo outside / white inside bag and it's got the wheel axle protectors. I agree best bag to keep under 50lbs and it's one of the longest. I bought it used in 2023 for $300 from a guy who purchased it 2022/2023 from REI on a garage sale at 380$

    Great review. I just used bike flights for a trip to Sedona, AZ from DC. I put the bike in a bike box, really protected the bike. But, some gorilla working at UPS drug the box on the ground for what looked like a few miles. There was a huge gap/opening/damage on the bottom edges and quite a bit of my kit was gone. Fortunately, bike flights took care of the issue and got me a refund for the lost items with ease.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  2 года назад

      We've been there before...a few times actually. BikeFlights definitely takes care of everyone quickly and efficiently. If only UPS would take care of packages from the start though, that would be much better.

    The savage is a great piece of gear. It has always kept my bike perfectly safe. If you buy their helmet bag it clips right onto the back where the webbing is. Make for one less thing to hold while walking through the terminal!

    looking for a new bike bag, in 2014 i got the evoc bag (i think they only had the one model at the time) and it wont fit my 29" mtb wheels. other than that, it has been great.

    So basically none of the bags except the dakine are light enough to get a mountajn bike under 50lbs as a checked bag and avoid the fee.

    Hi team, hope you can respond as I’m flying overseas in two weeks and need advice. The Evoc Bike Case, seeing it’s not hard do you feel it’s durable enough? And my main question is if it’s compatible for a Quick Release frame system? I noticed some have internal frames but Thru Axel

      The axles it accepts should be universal but could be worth double checking on their site.

      It seems that prices have jumped DRASTICALLY in the last year or two... Sadly they don't seem to be the bargain they once were. Although we're not sure anyone else is better.

    How would these bags fair with a fixed gear cycle.

    • @TheLoamWolf
      @TheLoamWolf  3 года назад

      Great as they've got less moving parts, are a lot thinner and have less dangling around.

      Not really sure, think the brand went through a restructuring at some point and alot of products got the axe. It's definitely are favorite in terms of protection and build quality, but it does have a severe weight penalty.
