I saw one of these today and needed to check it out. I am totally blown away, was not expecting this from Hyundai, it sounds amazing and looks likes an awesome car
I bought my 2011 3.8 Track Genesis Coupe 3 months ago and I am completely in love with it. I work for a luxury car dealership and this stunning black coupe in the lot of trade-ins caught my eye... I drove it on my lunch break and immediately knew I had to have it :)
I know this is a 9 year old comment but I figure Ill try, I’m going to look at a 2011 Genesis Coupe 3.8 track on Friday. How was yours long term reliability wise?
I really like these if I'm honest... I feel like it's a great alternative to the American muscle cars! Nice balance between a sports car and a muscle car.
***** ah dude I understand. I want to drive stick so bad; I've never even had the opportunity. Unfortunately my dreams of having the Genesis coupe that you see up there is gone :(
That is the Track Model Genesis Coupe you reviewed. The Grand Touring has 18" wheels and no HID headlights anymore. 2010 Genesis Coupe had the HID Headlights. 2010 Genesis Coupe Grand Touring also has Brown Leather Interior in every color and 2011-2014 Grand Touring models had a choice of brown or black leather interior depending on the color you choose.
This is 3.8 Track Edition, not Grand Touring. Grand Touring does NOT have 19" wheels, Brembo brakes, spoiler, LSD, track tuned suspension, strut brace. Track Edition is R-Spec combined with GT, the only thing it doesn't have is rear parking sensors from GT, it has everything else like push start button, sun roof, navigation (2011+), Infiniti sound system, etc. This specific car has problem with navigation so it won't load (I see 100k miles on odometer hmm...). I have 2012 3.8 Track, Navigation loads in about 7 seconds and is really great. Ride is pretty bad because it has track tuned suspension. Love instant MPG next to clock in the middle, torque is whatever, kind of shows how much you press accelerator. Fun car! Mine is manual too and I love it!
You've got the Grand Touring and Track models confused. This video is the Track model with 19 inch wheels and Brembos. The GT 18s and non-Brembo brakes.
You did a great job man!!! I was waiting for this review for so long!!! But i cant decide between the Gen coupe 2.0T or the VW GTI, both of them are 2010 model, i know that they are totally different cars but they look great, any recommendation?
I was in the same position about a year ago. It really depends on what you want out of your car. Think about using it every day (assuming you will only have one car) and what kind of challenges each car will give you. The the Genesis, you only have two doors with crappy back seat room and mediocre trunk space. Also. a lot of people are saying the 3.8 is much much better than the 2.0. Try looking into that as well. As for the GTI, it is practical and has a great interior, while still being a decently speedy and tunable. However, it is FWD and is a bit slower than the Genesis. Basically, sport/muscle car Vs. sporty family car.
Genesis is, far sexier looking, way faster (V6). The GTI has better build quality, is roomier,(4 door), and will probably have a more refined ride quality. Although I am a big fan of the GTI, I would choose a V6 Genesis all day. Make sure to get the updated 13 model.
From a reliability standpoint, both cars have some issues. Based on a major consumer magazine: The Genesis has much worse than average electrical reliability & worse than average body integrity and power equipment reliability. Overall MUCH worse than average reliability. The GTI has much worse than average body integrity and body hardware reliability. And it has worse than average fuel system and power equipment reliability. Overall worse than average reliability. Keep in mind that 2010 was the year the Genesis Coupe was introduced and also the year the GTI was redesigned, so a bad year for both cars IMO. As a rule of thumb, I would avoid the first couple years of a newly produced or newly redesigned car to allow the manufacturers some time to work out some of the flaws. Have you considered a Lexus IS?
I personally own a 2010 2.0T and i love it. There's a lot of customization available and they look (in my opinion) much better than the GTI. I've yet to have any problems with it and mine is close to 40k miles. If you're young and looking for a fun car to toy around with, I'd recommend the gen.
This is a track model. My 2011 track is exactly like this model but in 6 speed and has leather seats, intelligent key push to start, and navigation. The Grand touring doesn't come with 19 inch wheels, Brembo brakes, or the wing. Only the R-spec and track come with those.
its a shame they ruined the front end with the refresh. I disagree on the better balanced comment vs the mustang though. All the reviewers have gotten better times with the mustang v6 around a road course than the genesis v6, both on the pre-refresh and post-refresh models. This gap will get substantially wider when the 2015 mustang's hit the market.
Does the GT offer a slightly better ride than the Track model or is it indiscernible? Also, is the LSD somehow available on the track. I want the somewhat smoothness of a daily driver but the traction of an LSD.
I’m getting one of these soon, I’m about to turn 17. So hopefully I’ll be able to get into sports cars as in the insurance is cheaper than other popular sports cars
I like the Genesis Coupe and it represents an amazing value in the used car market. The only deal breaker is the starter sound. Sounds like an old Ecotec Cavalier starting up. My old 2000 Maxima had a smooth start up, the little things matter too.
Nick O The engine and exhaust I like. I don't like the cranking sound of the starter. The new GDI has an improved starter. Now all Hyundai has to do is get rid of the nasty starter on the Accent.
the 2014 models are essentially the same with the major changes happening to the 2.0T. they now all come with fog lights, rev matching, and a new intake induction just to name a few. the 2.0t weighs an extra 70 pounds to, i'd stick with a 13 model. anways fun car i have a 2013 base 2.0 and its not a bad car at all, no issues with wastegate or electronics so far.
HEY so i want to know this. I have a 011 Sonata 2.4L i think the GE model. Anyways i really want to upgrade from my Sonata to the Genesis. Maybe the 2010 or this 2012 model. Ofcourse i save alot on insurance if i get the 2010. I want to know is it really worth getting the 3.8T over the 2.8T? Cause i do some heavy traffic driving, and ofcourse big difference is saving money on insurance since it is expensive here in Toronto GTA.
The mileage is pretty much the same on both cars. The difference is the 2.0t takes premium gas whereas the 3.8 takes regular. So in the end you pay the same amount in gas but the 3.8 has more power.
+fpshooterful from my understanding you can run 87 but the car does lose performance and burn a little extra fuel because it isn't as clean and refined. I personally would not run 87 because I paid so much for the car so why hurt it. I'm currently in the market for a 3.8 gt and have found one and in the negotiations. I to am from Toronto's gta, and after extensive research the cars end up costing the same gas wise. So I went with more power.
I bought the 2013 2.0T because I like how the turbo gives you a boost and If I want more power I can just turn up the boost. I think the 2.0T is the better choice since you can turn up the boost and get same power as the V6.
TVinmyEye Driving experience so far is great. good power, easy to drive and I have lots of fun driving it. My only problem with the car is the stock tires they aren't the best tires. I can easily drift going 40km/h
I heard GDI engines pistons get dirty fast ,and fuel injectors dont clean pistons to well as normal direct port injections. so I'll probably this 2012 3.8 instead of the GDI,s.
2theRedline Yes they did. Track models came with everything except rear parking sensors. Navigation was optional in 2009 for "2010 model year" but 2011 and newer models had it standard. I have 2012 3.8 Track manual by the way.
I don't know how many people have said it but this is a track model not the grand touring. The way you can tell is the absence of rear parking sensors, 19in wheels, brembo brakes, and if that's not enough the grand touring came with chrome accents on the front bumper on the fog light housing. Also there's not a "sport package" for the grand touring so it wouldn't have a spoiler. The only model with an oem spoiler is the track model.
Trust me this car is just beautiful to look at, i saw one parked at a spot and mahnnn people kept turning their heads. Its low and wide and looks mean… if only they found a way to give it a bigger grill
This car is amazing... I was looking at 11-12 Ford Mustang but I found this and I am going to get one of this. But for sure I want 2013 V6.. 375 HP and exterior updates... It looks so sexy
Lol, I was asking if this or the 2.0 would be a good first car. I’m 22 and responsible enough to not do anything crazy. I don’t was anything like a focus but I want something like this.
I currently own this exact car and trim (2012 3.8 Grand Touring) For a 1st car I'd say just be wary and respectful that being a rear wheel drive car *can* be rough in winter. So if you're in an area that tends to get snow it might not be the best for you especially if you're just planning on using all season tires. If you want to get a more powerful car no matter what, this car isn't a bad choice. I feel like power wise it's a good car to get you used to having more power/how to handle it before you move on to something more powerful. Personally I think of 4 cylinder cars like Civics as great 1st cars.. But this is a fantastic 1st sports car. It's not a fantastic car if you have plans on modding it however. You can mod it and some have done so with great success, just know you'll be limited on what you can do with the 3.8 trim.

@@TwistedEyes12 I really appreciate your comment. I feel like I’m a responsible enough driver to try one of these out. But I’m happy you enjoyed your experience.
I reamber when Saabkyle04 had his white 2010 Genesis Coupe 3.8 Grand Tourning with the brown seats also last year when me and my mom and dad went to Flordia the rent car that the airport got us a 2013 Hyundai Genesis 4 door i don't know what Engine that had i am guesting the 3.8 V6!!!
2theRedline please edit your video. the car you reviewed is a 2012 3.8 Track Edition. It has everything (19" wheels, brembo brakes, spoiler, track tuned suspension and strut brace, LSD, navigation, leather, auto climate control, infinity sound system, moon roof, push start button, 4 way power driver seat, etc). the only thing it doesn't have is rear parking sensors, which for 2010-2013 model years were only available for 2.0T Premium and 3.8 Grand Touring. You can check Hyundai web site it you don't believe me.
+ConverseBoy64 this is Track Edition in the U.S. I've done my research when I bought the same car back in 2012. In Canada however they have different trim names.
Absolutely LOVE my car, you can make this thing sound absolutely badass with a couple simple changes to the exhaust, check my video to hear it if you're looking for an exhaust upgrade
You "like what they're doing with the '13..." Are you kidding? It's a monstrosity with one of the most overwrought front ends in the market today. Disaster level bad...
Don't be so close-minded.. i thought the exact same thing. See it in person first, it looks better than the 09-12 shitty tiny grill. Once you look past that, it is better in EVERY other way.
Your comment is "overwrought" ive driven this car on PCH in California which is bombarded with Porsches, jags, audis, and i shit you not whenever i pass someone driving a more luxurious car i always catch them checking my genesis out. Even received a compliment from this dude driving a F type jag.
The driver's side front wheel has some serious curb rash. Must've been from a woman driver. I notice women's rims tend to be scraped up more than men's.
lol i have exact same car and managed to scrape all my wheels. they're big and car itself is pretty low, and when you thinking about parking good and close to the curb and forget about your beautiful wheels, things happen!
yes you can, its very similar to G at cheaper price. however infiniti's quality is better but its way more expensive ($10k) if you look at similar equipped cars.
I really like this car
it has everything you need in sport car and with good price
The only hyundai I would drive
Typiclelooroll have you seen the new genesis
not the tiburon? 🤕
Just bought one and can’t wait for it to arrive bruh 💨😭

so was i, not many reviews on the genesis coupe for some strange reason.
this is 3.8 Track Edition by the way.
Like how detailed your reviews are, as well as the great in car camera angles/sound bytes, keep up the good work dude!

I love your videos. I'm 17 and can't even afford a car for shit, but you're really informative and great to listen to

You've got the Grand Touring and Track models confused. This video is the Track model with 19 inch wheels and Brembos. The GT 18s and non-Brembo brakes.
There are new front bumpers available for the 2013 model! Gctuner or importshark carry em
the torque gauge should have been a vacuum gauge and the instant mpg should show a number

Thanks for the great review and pointing out that you have to "duck your head and fall in" Good info to know, so probably a climb out as well.
So the only difference between the 2.0 3.8 etc are the engines?

it just got a minor update this year. It likely isn't getting any changes for 2015.
Daniel Blaney
Why are you comparing the genesis to muscle cars? I think a better alternative would be the Z models or g37 models.
***** Let me know when you have something actually intellectual and valid to say about the video lmao.
He compared them to muscle cars because the coupe has a huge engine, especially the newest models, and on paper, it has muscle car power
Sean Carson Muscle car power huh?Didn’t know 330 hp was equivalent to 400+ hp.

@@TwistedEyes12 I really appreciate your comment. I feel like I’m a responsible enough driver to try one of these out. But I’m happy you enjoyed your experience.
@@michaeldunlap2254 Of course! If you get one I hope you enjoy it. Be glad to see more on the road!
Drift it! Drift it!
Did Hyundai literally take the Nissan VQ37 and call it a LAMBDA V6?
I would buy this and leather rap every plastic in the interior and fix a huge tesla style screen DONE ✅
I have the 2013 3.8 (not the GDI though) and it's just not my type of car.
So why you got it?
vader11111 Yeah it was a mistake, when I drove it at first I liked it.
all 2013 3.8 genesis coupe are GDI direct injected engines ***** unless you're referring to the sedan.
I think the word “Hyundai” keeps ringing a bell when appreciating this car which is so bad
Anyone have an idea what he's car is?
He drives a honda fit and vw gti
That's the Track not the grand touring
Isn't this the track version instead of grand touring? 19" wheels, Brembo brakes and rear spoiler as standard, gotta be a track version to me.
thought the same thing
We thought so too, but this particular model had leather seats, intelligent key, and navigation. The track models didn't come with those features.
+Nick O You can't get the Navigation with the track I thought.
it's funny because now kia came out with a sport sedan
2008 was when it debuted not 2010
step down to an R-Spec???????? The R-Spec is the most exspensive model
stopped watching after they got the trim level wrong
Absolutely LOVE my car, you can make this thing sound absolutely badass with a couple simple changes to the exhaust, check my video to hear it if you're looking for an exhaust upgrade
buffalosabres91 what changes are you talking about? i was thinking on getting the ISR exhaust system down the road. i just bought a '10 genesis 3.8
Almost 100% sure this is the “track” model. Not the grand touring. 😂
Does it have a V8?
Sounds like a VQ35 at first start... That's just me
Hyundai feeling this thing out. I'd Gladly take a mustang over this. G37 overall.
6:31 Rally Sport..
too much compression on the voice
I would like some of these cars just drop the backseat. save some weight, and such. Well then again, some of us have kids and hostages...
A place to put people you don't like... LOL!!
Car reviewer that doesn't even touch the paddle shifters... What kind of review is this?
That’s a track
I'll will pass I'm happy with my Acura ZDX
Haha.. people you don't like...
Automatic 🤢
Thats a track
Hah that front grille is hideous !!
Dollar store ,sports car.
Just rev the engine lol
ehhh so cheap on inside and looks like kia rio. Mustang or 370 for sure
The driver's side front wheel has some serious curb rash. Must've been from a woman driver. I notice women's rims tend to be scraped up more than men's.
lol i have exact same car and managed to scrape all my wheels. they're big and car itself is pretty low, and when you thinking about parking good and close to the curb and forget about your beautiful wheels, things happen!
cant really compare it to an infiniti. thats a higher class car
yes you can, its very similar to G at cheaper price. however infiniti's quality is better but its way more expensive ($10k) if you look at similar equipped cars.
i'll take a turbo/supercharged Tiburon over a genesis any day, period.
