Tried this lense on an a6300 and a6700 and the images are surprisingly sharp . And it's super light . Compared to tamron 18 to 300 not a big difference in sharpness.
I think it depends on your style. If you’re comfortable with shooting at a fixed distance than I would go with the prime lens. If you prefer zoom like me, I would go with the 55-210.
Hey Chris - what's your experience/opinion on this lens+body combo for videography? Considering buying this combo used with the 16-50 too, primarily for that use (i am new to photography/videography altogether). Also - swore I thought you were at moss rock, and then I saw the hat 😂 I'm located in Bham as well.
Oh word! Big legion fan haha. So I’ve played around with the video a little bit on the a6000, I would probably suggest the 16-50 over the 55-210 for videography. With the 16 you can shoot wide and have a little room to play with zoom. For photography, I feel like it’s what you prefer, I myself would probably go with the 55-210. But if you like taking wider shots then go with the 16-50. They’re both solid.
Thanks for the video! Do you have any issues in term of sharpness? Currently thinking about getting the 55210 too, but I read that it has issues with the image sharpness (or rather the a6000)
Of course! In terms of sharpness, during the day I haven’t had much of a problem with that. But in lower light settings, it’s a little bit difficult to get a sharp image, since the apertures lowest setting is 4.5. But I’m sure you could use a tripod and lower your shutter speed a bit, but it’s a solid lens for sure.
I recently bought this lens on ebay, described as "opened, not used". I couldn't get it to focus properly at the long end,so asked to return it, whereupon the seller responded: "I've been using it for three years on my Nex 5 with no problems".! I don't know if it was just a bad copy or if it was faulty, but it was unacceptably soft at the long end.
Oh man, sounds like it was used a good bit… I’ve had some bad experiences with eBay and with returning things like you said, it makes it pretty difficult to find lenses and stuff like that.
shots from this lens might look acceptable on a tiny smartphone screen but if you seek good image quality - look elsewhere. i have a6000 and i had this 55-210 lens and quickly got rid of it - really poor image quality, especially at long zoom end
Thank for this video! I ordered mine on Monday, should be getting it tomorrow. I normally use a 35mm 1.8f. I am most interested in wildlife photography and wanted a low budget lens for practice before investing in a more expensive lens. Based on this video and a few others I’ve watched I think it’ll be a super fun lens to improve my skills with.
Can this lens be used for bird photography and videography or is the sony 75-300mm a better suited lens for far away subjects? I am looking for a budged lens for wildlife, far away subjects like birds.. but I am not sure which lens would be best. Also Anyone in the comment section please feel free to help me with some ideas if possible...
Hey, so I’m not too familiar with the 75-300mm, but from my experience with the 210 it’s great for capturing subjects at a distance (birds, squirrels, even bears lol) and it’s also prob a cheaper alternative for a great quality. Hope this helped!
I really like the way your shots are edited, very natural look. I hate 90% of edited pics nowadays, but yours are👌
I appreciate it! Yea majority of the time all I tweak is some exposure and a tad bit of color.

Indeed very solid
Good video, and well done for not turning beautiful running water into cotton wool.

what do you suggest instead?
I bet you would like the 85 f1.8 a lot.
It’s definitely on my list of lenses to look into buying!
