- Fishing Roker pier in Sunderland.
Roker Pier is situated at the mouth of the River Wear and is a good sea fishing venue throughout the year when the gates are open and the sea isn't to rough for a variety of sea fish species.

Lol good to see you don’t always have a great session. Much like mine often end up.
Very informative as always.
Nice one Gary! Stay safe & well - Dave. 🎣🎣👍👍
Thanks, you too Dave. 👍
Hi Gary, lovely upload, nice coalfish, like the wide acceptable pier,Merry Christmas, Mike, Norfolk, tight lines.
Hi Mike, Thanks. Merry Christmas, tight lines.
Your so lucky being able to fish both sides of the pier
Good to see another video Gary myself i am looking forward to warmer weather next year and throwing a few spinners off the Leas have a great christmas tight lines.
Thanks Carl, same here looking forward to next summer. You too mate have a good Christmas, tight lines mate.
Pity re snags as looks a good pier that ..Ive been all over fishing UK and Ireland and for me Scotland is tops for fishing places ive been by far..
Fished a beach this evening in Ireland, nothing, not even a dogfish. Bought a 15.9 Inch foot fixed spool rod like your self I've been using multiplyers for years. Fishing with the reel low down. The rod I bought is a Penn tidal XR ... very stiff.... quite surprised with the distance I'm getting. I'll soften the tip eventually 🤣🤣
Nice to see you lad . Good video as always.
Thanks mate.
Mine always get stuck in those rock or seaweed 😢
Gary I loved your tech videos as much as these. Could you do one for tying braids to things. Braid to braid and braid to the fast link for example
Thanks.
Thanks, Phil, that's a good suggestion. I'll try and get around to doing it in one of my videos 👍
Thanks for sharing sir .
Tight lines
👍 tight lines.
Best marks are either opposite the first set of steps. And or near the wall at the top of the pier. Wont get snagged at either of these marks.
No blanks🎣🎣, but looks like you picked snag central there.🫣🥺
Thanks for sharing.👍
Take care and stay safe.😷🙊
Thanks Ian you too take care mate 👍
Never had as many lost rigs in shields pier as this year. Needs a bid storm to clear it all up as most of it is peoples lost rigs and line.
Happy New year Gary, just wondering if you have any luck with New updates on videoing the next trip, kind regards Mike. Norfolk 👍
Happy new year Mike, I've got a few planned should have one on by tomorrow night, just finishing up editing it.
@@fishingintheukgarywood 👍👍
Really enjoyed that mate good as usual 👍👍
Thanks mate, glad you enjoyed it 👍
Nice video mate, excellent editing aswell 😁
Thanks mate 👍
Cheers for the watch gary from GRIMSBY
Must say mate, you got some good spots too fish from. The top places i find always end up having lots of scum bags hanging around, no matter what time of day it is. So much
so i give up fishing from the Humber to the Wash. Grimsby, Cleethorpes, Mablethorpe, Skegness etc, They all ruined. When i retire I will go as far away from this hovel as I can.
One man's hovel is another man's paradise 🤣
Nice video and a very nice and clean pier that you are fishing from.
Coal fish, appear to be in abundance there, is that a seasonal thing or are they there most of the time.
Thanks, yes theres alot of them about here in the north east they are here all pretty much all year round.
Nice video again 🐟👍
Thanks Gary 👍
Another good un hoping to get a session before Xmas got a new rod itching to try it out weather permitting
Thanks Colin 👍
Great video, nice one 👍
Thanks 👍
Never felt big chucks have been that necessary from roker, short lob enough, sometimes they are 5-10 yards infront of you
Thanks ill try short lobs next time I fish there.
Nice one mate
Thanks mate.
Cracking video Gary! I am trying to find new spots along the tyne for Codling. Is the river tyne next to the metrocentre any good? Or is it too far up the river and too low water? 🎣👍
Thanks John, its good for flounder and small codling all the way upto the Scotswood Bridge.
I had a 2lb codling from the Copthorn before now and seen others but not had any over a 1lb for up
Hi what rod do you recommend for fishing after pier?
Been a while mate. Great video as per shame about the snags i think they are most the way up the pier apart from right at the top. Happy christmas have a good one. All the best
Thanks mate, happy Christmas. All the best 👍
Nice one Gary shame no cod about but not a blank mate , take care & tight lines
Thanks Steve, hopefully there's some about next time. Take care mate, tight lines.
Pity about the kelp Gary, hope you do better another time , regards mate😊👍
Thanks kieth 👍
Is it always lean pickings? Man compared to living it NZ and Australia it looks really dismal fishing in the UK
It just depends when you go sometimes it's good sometimes it bad.
What sort of yardage are you getting on your casts??
About 40yds, I think, but people have mentioned in the comments that it's probably too far to cast for there, they say, closer in is better.
👍thumbs up to you mate
Thanks mate 👍
holy crap why you reeling so fast?
To keep above the snags.
Reeling in fast gets the lead quickly off the sea bed helps to avoid rig snaging rocks/kelp beds etc
Where do you get the bait from coz i struggle getting decent stuff
The frozen squid and peeler were from reelsport I bought them in the summer and the rag worm was from Rutherfords.
Seems very quiet there is it not as busy as the piers up our way Blyth ect
It was mid week that's why it might not have been busy but I'm not sure I don't fish roker regularly.
Enjoying your vids I mainly do fly fishing and the odd bit spinning but gonna invest in some more gear for the salt waters.keep them coming mate total Newby 👍
👍stay lucky
Thanks 👍
y r u going 4 distance u seem 2b a mile out
Bro move to Texas if u want to catch some big fish. U throw that crab here u will git a big drum or red fish. Save that worm for fresh water. It's no wonder ur the only one fishing there... Well a bad day of fishing beats a good day at work any time....
That reel sounds 100 years old
