Hi Dan, - made me smile when you mentioned the letter "M" was probably your fave, - mine too, strange quirk there are so many artists surnames beginning with "M" - who knows why? M for MUSIC maybe LOL Peace.
I like your idea of more than five albums for a particular artist, they get their own section. My collection is much smaller than yours (700) and I still find organizing them a daunting task but it has to be done. Your space is incredible.
I love my collection of record. There is about 50 or so, that I will never listen to but looking through them, as I re-organized, they really are the story of my life, to this point. great video Dan....
That's quite a shuffle. Bravo. I do this on a regular basis... on my _iTunes_ ;-) and I do remember a friend of mine alphabetizing his records by the first name. You should try this next! Can't wait to go to your place... (when they'll find a vaccine)... but I'm not sure I'll give you an LP as a present! Maybe a jersey... from the Alouettes (but I"m sure you already got one or two.... organized by numbers?). Cheers. Stay safe.
A few jazz albums are collaborations. Have you filed these under the first name? Sometimes that feels arbitrary or wrong, Its not always obvious which one is the guest. For instance : Bags & Trane./Bags Meets Wes, / Duke Ellington Meets Coleman Hawkins,/ Duke Ellington and John Coltrane,/ Sonny Meets Hawk, John Coltrane and Don Cherry, The Avant Guard etc.
@@TheJazzShepherd, so I take it that's alphabetical, and by the first name on the cover ? My next question, what happens to your great collection if you get struck by lightening? Just asking for a friend. :)
When ever I walk into a record store (or indeed book store )my heart begins to pump and race in frenetic anticipation of what I will find or what new enticing experience is only a credit card swipe away that will leave me smiling and metaphorically skipping down the street. Your A- Z tour has left me grinning like the village idiot. Heart and soul felt passions that also join up to our cerebral well being are a joy to behold Dan. So, with a galloping heart I shall take my leave......for a lie down. An Impressive odyssey.
You have an absolutely amazing collection of Jazz, Blues and Cool School Records Dan. I can feel the pang of complete jealosy hitting me hard. I think the A-Z filing you have now is best if you still enter new stuff in your 'Book Of Labels' you showed us. A PC Data Base using Excel would be great for cross-referencing the alpha list to Labels but that's a big job to set up if you haven't got one already. It seems to me you are managing your vast collection logically. My collection of around 3000 CD's (Maybe 8,000 Albums) is easier to handle so I don't bother with a Data base as each CD has the Album title on the leading edge and I have all the titles lodged in my head (I think ??) I use the following catagories to file the Albums = Pure Pop - Cool School - Pop Collections + Film + Light Music - Blues & Gospel - Jazz Rock - Jazz Instrumental - Jazz Compilations. (Plus my Classical catagories) I separate out all Jazz Vocals from the main Jazz list and put them with Easy listening into my 'Cool School' section because I don't think Carmen McRae should be next to Jackie McLean in terms of style. I have had great enjoyment thought many years just collecting and listening to Records. Really sorry now that I sold all my Vinyl LP's in the 80's but I am very happy with my CD's. The CD Box Sets with 6 to 8 albums on them you can get now are pretty darn good sound quality but their discog detail varies from good to really inaccurate. The sound can be awesome if you have high end HiFi ro play them on. Thanks for this special session. Very interesting for me
Dan, interesting that you reorganized, and that you plan to revert/reorganize again in 6 months. In your new alphabetical organization to you still have each artist organized bu label or by year (though they may be the same)? Thanks, Chris
Weird the things people notice... I put on a Dif Jersey for each episode,...usually right before i start, so when i turn on the camera n realize its hidden, i pull it out.... thats is.....no hidden message or meaning
That's cool. I thought maybe you were sending a little wink to your sweetie. I just found a good use for my Booker's boxes!!!! And a good reason to empty a few more.
The channel is really taking off, kudos to you....well deserved👍
Thanks a ton!
Sweet collection, Great room.
Thanks!
Will be better with a stream of visitors!!!

Wow, that was a big job! Yeah the lounge is cool. Can't wait to get back there!
Nice man. Setting yourself up for success. Looking forward to the artists videos. Enjoyed your Blakey, Smith, Mobley and Coltrane videos in the past.
Much appreciated
Amazing collection
Thanks a lot
Very impressive!
Thank you! Cheers!

Its one of the reasons I like sorting by label so much more!!

A wonderful set up and collection there Dan.. What is the Blue Note on the stand behind your back at about a minute in. Looks cool.
That is a book of BN album covers !!!!

thnx brutha ! ! ! We like to sort our music!!!
Always assumed your “lounge” was a street-level commercial space. It’s huge, looks like a record shop, café or antique dealer.
it is a great space..... want to make a jazz bed n breakfast down the road... slash weekend cafe!
The Jazz Shepherd Love the channel man, learning a lot. We don’t always see eye-to-eye though, the Bitches Brew video was killing me 😂
I like the Bookers Bourbon Separaters !!
a good use!!!
@@TheJazzShepherd Buffalo Trace ! Turkey 101 !
Next time, organize it chronologically!!! Just a thought!!!
that woud take een longer!!!!!!!!!
@@TheJazzShepherd yes I know!!! 😁😁😁

mostly chronologically.... but labels often match up
Enough records for at least 10,000 more video's ;-)
yes sir...lotsa videos!!!
Ah man... I'm jealous!
I have a lot of fun with it!!
Please explain the necklace thing you do. Very few videos do you miss it.

Do you just collect records or do you listen to CD too!
it is mostly vinyl..esp y jazz...i have 2500 cds.... but not much jazz
I get the impression you have next to nothing by the legendary Buddy Rich , am I right?
i probably have 5 -8 albums of his, many are with and fiked under Krupa...which is one reason I do not like filing by artisit
