I have been using this with my 3rd graders and they LOVE it! It wakes them up and they are much calmer and focused afterwards. I don't think of it as "brain" gym, but of course everyone knows that exercise and increased blood flow to the brain is never a bad thing. Kids that struggled with cross crawl exercises due to poor coordination before can now do them easily. So, who cares what the "research" says about brain gym. It is having positive benefits for my students and they enjoy it.

I did at school to the song "Happy" by Pharrell Williams when I was young.
1st verse: Ankle touch (in front)
    Chorus (instance 1): Marching
    2nd verse: Step touch
    Chorus (instance 2): Marching
Bridge (instance 1) Elbow to the knee (on part 1), then ankle touch (behind the body)
    Chorus (instance 3): Marching
Bridge (instance 2) Bend and reach
    Chorus (instance 4): Marching
    Outro: Hook-up and breathing

Speaking as a person who has struggled with learning challenges throughout my entire life and have tried seemingly everything with limited results, I think Brain Gym rocks!
I work out regularly, eat well, am an avid positive visualization & affirmation babbler. Then I got turned on to Brain Gym & it's like a light got switched on! I am more focused and energetic. When I start to feel "off" I do some BG now.
Oh, & I haven't had to shell out a dime, because of these wonderful RUclips videos!

maybe not this particular one but exerbreaks or brain gyms/brain breaks are great tools for helping the students get some physical activity/stay focused, etc. I'm sorry to hear that your experience was so negative, but as an education student I have felt much more rejuvinated after one of these activities. I definitely plan on using these in the classroom!

The bottom line is that all movement changes the brain. Specific movements have been found to create pathways that result in more efficient learning and activity. Dr's I personally know who have utilized various activities (and who don't have a huge "scientific" chip on their shoulder) know of its efficacy and add it to their toolbox of learning and stess reduction aids. And "anecdotal" does not mean it doesn't have credibility. That's really a narrow assumption, but thank you for checking.

Oh my gosh, guys its five minutes. Who cares if it works or not. This is more exercise than most of you are currently doing, and it is only 5 min long. If it works for your brain, then great! If not, then oh well. But I dare anyone one of you on this RUclips website to find me some research that says exercise does not help you out mentally. Regardless if it is brain gym or not. Not to mention this is fantastic for after lunch to beat the afternoon slump, or to help wake up in the morning.

@ellopopit9, people who live in glass houses should not throw stones. This work out is meant for people trying to come back from some sort of brain injury. For ex: Stroke, traumatic brain injury, brain surgery for tumors. Doing these cross body exercises works both hemispheres of the brain thereby forcing them to communicate with one another.

Some of the best ways I personally know of improving the minds learning ability is to learn to think logically, use mnemonics to improve memory & imagination, mind mapping methods, study in short bursts of 20 mins & review regularly ... & good old meditation, by this I mean concentration exercises ... & last but not least a regular physical exercise routine. These things will do wonders. As for the above vid, seems a bit strange ?

...I remember having to do this daily in grade school... it was the aboslute most degrading and moronic thing we ever had to do. the looks of contempt for that gym teacher who showed it to us will never be forgottin. it was proof that the public schools would try anything to improve test scores, right beside making people practice simple math facts in detention... trust me none of us preformed any better by crossing our legs and caressing the collar bone,

It works and here my rationale -- As a special needs teacher, I can see the difference in my students ability (both cognitively and physically) when they can perform midline crossing movements as opposed to those who cannot! Even if you don't believe me, why not try it, it's quick and easy and it does help those with MCI!!!

Just learning how to do any of things without thinking is evidence that it works. People who do not workout will have some problems when the start out. Adding something simple like start on the left side [taking direction, listening, mind body connection, connecting each exercise and have people to remember and do all takes practice].

Who ever this person is did some actual Brain Gym activities and then a lot of his own variations. Which is fine; it all was meant to activate both hemispheres. Also, one doesn't need to be recovering from any injury to benefit from cross lateral work. It helps integrate the mind and body for doing anything more effectively! Called Brain Gym because movement like this literally "grows" the brain. And not all Brain Gym activities are cross lateral; it's just all he did here. :)

Actually, there is copious research/info about Brain Gym programs used in schools, etc. worldwide, as well as article after article describing it's effectiveness with any number of sensory integration issues. The old whine about it not being "researched" is just a cop out for not looking - or DOING any! lol This is simply neural growth, integration and education. Some of those whiners have med or psych degrees and are in a great position to really contribute to this. (A few have!) O well...

Brain gym, the system that oxidises the brain, which is the process of rusting for those here who have actually studied any form of chemistry. They mean to say oxygenation which is the process of delivering oxygen to tissues around the body. We have already got a super efficient system for that, its called the respiratory system, not brain gym. Also the collective authors of this movement subscribe to the fallacy that there is no water in processed food, judge for yourself...

Scientific articles are what we read. We know that there are major errors in scientific articles. But at least one tried to spot them.

The only material proof worth considering regarding Brain Gym are people's opinions and how they have perceived benefits through Brain Gym, although, for whatever reason, nobody can explain it scientifically. Check their website, even they will tell you they're not sure. However, it has been suggested that Brain Gym is effective due to the fact that exercise breaks are beneficial to students, of course this can be done w/o Brain Gym and it's vast amounts of nonsense science.

is the effect of brain gym the supporting of any brain activity no

I wonder if I can do brain gym before going to bed or should I do it in the morning right before studying?
