I own these headphones. You are spot on especially with the leaking sound yet blocking external noise. This was a very accurate review!

I think the high's smoothness can be attributed to the biocellulose driver material compared to most other headphone's use of mylar drivers.

I agree with your sound descriptions 100%. You really have to spend some time with these. Once you do, there's no going back! The 150-200 hour break-in time is a must. The sound stage IS unique but once you understand what's going on with this "new" sound stage, your ears will smile! You nailed this review. Everything that I have experienced with mine, you have brilliantly described here. Thank you!

Nice! I am so glad I could help you. You know I got rid of these headphones (i try to only keep 10 at any given time). And I regret selling them, I plan on re buying another pair soon because I really really enjoyed these. Which is saying ALOT!

Hey man, just ordered this before seeing ur video, 348 dollars. I've tried them on bestbuy few months ago, and I really liked how they sounded. It should arrive tomorrow. Can't wait to have them. Peace.

I literally just bought these today. The local brick n mortar shop had a pair to trial, which had about a years worth of use on them.. they were phenomenal. t
They had a pair of HiFiMan Edition X V1 there, I listened to them as well.. The Nighthawks reminded me of a younger sibling, but with more bass quantity and a little rougher sound signature, but of course that is a huge relatively speaking phrase. As these are very smooth when compared to other headphones, but not when you compare it to something 3 to 4 times the cost in which most owners consider to be end game headphones. So, for $304 after taxes, these are unbelievably good.

Good to see a fellow Questyle CMA600i owner. Interested to know what headphones have particularly impressed you on the Questyle? Any you found didn’t match well ?

Can you explain what "smooth sound" and "analytical" is? :)

Is that heat shrink on the ends of your CCK cable? Just to help with the strain? Or did you repair it? Thanks!

I think I'm going to pick up a pair of these bad boys. Think the Dragonfly Red is worth picking up to plug these into on the PC?

I would say go for it. As long as your not editing music with them they are GREAT. One of my fav headphones to get lost with when listening to music. Super Comfy! I updated the link with carbon ones. I would say pick up the dragonfly red if you plan using with a laptop and moving around a lot. If your using at a desktop setup I would go with the Aune X1S 32 bit, amzn.to/2GtY8L2 It is really amazing for the price. Also Optical is always better than USB in all my testing. I need to do a video about this but basically, USB almost always picks up interference from motherboards (long story short).

I haven't had the 150 hours of burn in time with them yet and these are some strange sounding headphones. On some songs it breathes new life and detail into them and on others it sounds like there is water in my ear canal.. I'm not sure how I feel about them overall.

Daniel M they are very different but I would suggest burning them in for the whole time. It makes a huge difference.

$350 is a temporary price, until the old stock sells out. Than the slightly revised version which comes in black color, will be back to $599. No driver or other difference between the two versions just new color, new cable and 2 different pairs of earpads. The oroginal 'woody' looking version is discontinued, so at this price it is indeed a bargain. In addition there is closed back version being released called NightOwl, for $699.

*350 was end of the year sale for anyone who was wondering about it.

How would you compare the Nighthawk to say, the BOSE Quiet Comfort 25s?
I have been delving back into sound quality after about a 20 year hiatus when I bought the DragonFly Red. BTW, if you haven't done so, I HIGHLY, STRONGLY, ARDENTLY recommend the AudioQuest Jitterbug for use with a portable device. It cleans the 5v battery power from the phone or tablet. Also, go into airplane mode for an additional boost in sound fidelity as all the frequencies won't leak into the power signal. The Jitterbug isn't very noticeable on a PC or stand alone DAC.
I use the Samsung Galaxy S2 Tab running Neutron Player with FLACs I made using EAC.

I am surprised someone noticed. The easiest way I can explain I was having an audio drift issue.

You must have an oddly shaped pinna. Try iem’s, and stick it in your ear.
