I'm actually surprised that Coy didn't clock today spider punk was there at the end formation, he had to be. it's effectively the retelling of "Web warriors" team up. It was the original team and Spider-Man India, Spider punk and Spider Byte.
Also...the Miguel O'hara destroying that universe question
there was supposed to be Miguel as Miguel's death is the cannon moment, Coy is correct Peter B Parker is there, but not because that's good universe, but because CLEARLY Miguel and Peter B Parker were already long time friends by then, meaning when the world came crashing he asked for help from the small managers he had already assembled. Remember he said Miguel and him were long term friends. I assume after the first film when he made the watch in the post credit at the end the first thing he did was travel time and make a hand full of spider friends
Spiderpunk actually is in the team at the end, so we are definitely getting more of him
Just walked out. Can confirm
Love what Winston said about giving the audience the “spidey sense” at the end of the film. Damn that’s SO spot on!
The only thing not correct, is about the generic brand soda being a tell that it's the wrong universe. The generic brand soda billboard appears earlier in the movie, and in the regular Miles universe.
No continuity issue. The Gwen Peter/Lizzard segment already happened in the past, we were just getting her whole back story fully flushed out from then up until now, it just overlapped with what she's been up to since Into The Spider-Verse
What I also loved about this movie is that no matter which Spider-Verse you're in, the thing that is always constant is J.K. Simmons as J. Jonah Jameson.
The huge thing for me with this movie was the time they took to establish Miles’ relationship with his Mom and Dad. It’s something you always talk about with Andor Kristian. The DETAIL was phenomenal in this film.
Agreed. Also love that we got so much Gwen backstory.
This may not be your highest viewed episode at the end of the day but it’s definitely gotta have the most words by Coy in a single Big Thing. 😄 And as a huge Spidey fan, you love to see it because the amount of knowledge he shares is unmatched.
So true! Coy is on another level!😂
The most Coy that Coy has ever Coy’d 😅
Coy was on fire and cooking 😮💨😮💨
I think the explanation of why Miguel's universe imploded and why Miles' didn't is because Miguel is lying about something, and things didn't go down exactly the way he said they did, which they'll reveal in the third movie. Gwen's dad resigning from being a captain and avoiding his supposedly unavoidable fate proves that canon events can be disrupted, so I think there's gonna be a big reveal in the next movie that Miguel is lying.
Agreed. I think he's hiding something. An unreliable narrator of sorts
I don't think he is hiding anything. I really believe Miguel and his story I think the powers of the collider which in turn gave the Spot his powers has something to do with it cause The spot doesn't glitch not 1 time when traveling do diff universe.
I think maybe Miguel may have been the first spiderman who found a way to change his past and this created cannon events which he saw the Devastation first hand. This is why he is so driven to may sure no other spiderman repeats the same mistakes he made and he is now trying to keep the multiverse together.
I dont think he's lying but it doesn't make sense. Is his universe getting destroyed because he now goes on to save ppl who wouldn't be saved otherwise? But every spiderperson is constantly saving ppl who otherwise would die in other universes
Uncle Ben wasn’t a police captain.
I was under the impression that the alchemex spider-42 was supposed to bite Miles on Earth 42... Considering there was a shot where the spider was near someone who has braids, before being transported into our Miles' universe...
Yeah I got that impression too. That 42 spider was on its way to biting a boy with braids before it got sucked out of its own universe. Then they made a big deal about Miles hair and him taking out the braids at the end of the movie.
I think spider 42 was always meant to bite a Miles Morales. It just ended up biting the closest Miles to it from a different universe.
I bet we’re gonna see Tom Holland and the Spider-Man from the 90’s cartoon in the next one.
YES! Definitely can’t wait to see spidey from the 90s and hope they give him a prominent role too
@@ahmedsulz8265imagine he mentions finding his MJ
We also need the Spider
Man from late 70’s live action series too.
A couple things, the Spiderman that was supposed to be in Earth 42 wasn't Peter Parker. If you watch again, pay attention to the scene where the spot is going over his origin and he says that the collider brought a spider from another dimension. They show the spider before it gets transported and you can see that the guy the spider was about to bite was earth 42 Miles. So Miles was supposed to be Spiderman in that earth, but because the spider was transferred to a different earth, the Spider bit that earth's Miles. It also made it so earth 42 had no Spiderman(because Miles never got bit) which is probably why Jefferson dies in that earth and Miles becomes the prowler
I just posted that, should have scrolled down first.
@@williamdean24 There's enough room for both comments. In fact, it's in this channels favor if people repost the same thing, for the algorithm. If people didn't comment because someone already said the same thing, comment sections would have very few comments.
I've watched Coy do this whole Donald Glover/Miles/Prowler bit a couple of times now, and I love it!!!!
It will never get old!!!
Spiderman 2099 is not the primary villain but he is an antagonist.
Reminds me of Empire Strikes Back of Miles is a combination of Luke and Han. He’s frozen in carbonite on the punching bag, he saw the version of himself that could have been with the same ambition but different circumstances and is staring him face to face. I hope that Miles 42 isn’t pure evil, but will eventually be able to help save his father and see him one more time. Miles 1610 can tell his parents he’s Spider-Man and his Jefferson can encourage Miles 42 to pursue a better path in his own world
My feeling is that Dark Miles isn't evil per se. My theory is that his uncle was the Prowler until his father got killed. After he hung up the cape himself and taught Miles to use it to seek vengeance/justice.
He's a really dark Batman/Punisher with power armor fighting a brutal war with the Sinister Six who control NYC, which is basically Gotham in this universe.
11:40 A word poor Coy has been told all his life! “Breathe” lmao
I think Miguel was the first first anomaly, he went to a different universe where Spider-Man (2099) had died and was supposed to stay dead. However he stayed there and continued being Spider-Man when there wasn’t supposed to be one, there wasn’t supposed to be a Miguel. He stayed there so long that the universe imploded and then he created the Spider-Man Society to prevent other Spider-people from making the same mistake. Everything was chill and then Miles became a new anomaly, the “first one” because he caused the anomalies that came after. And when he tells Peter B. Parker you were there he’s referring to the collider and the first spider verse film.
P. S. I think the Miguel post credit scene happened while the first spider film took place or before.
I just know that when Coy went through that whole soliloquy about Donald Glover’s cameo Jon Schnepp was looking down giving a “sweaty” stamp of approval. 😏🙏🏽
I love the color of feeling in the Gwen’s world 🌎 it shows they were attached to the movie in the beginning that’s how I knew at that point this movie was made by Spider-Man fans
SpiderPunk (Daniel Kaluuya) was in the last scene with the rest of Gwen’s crew.
Loved this discussion. I am obsessed with this movie after seeing it twice and I'm so ready to go back. I can't wait. Coy perfectly explained how the movie made me feel. I cried so many times for so many reasons, and first and foremost it was because the beauty and seeing art in a way I just hadn't before. As a parent of a troubled 15 year old, the stuff between Miles and his mom absolutely broke me. One thing I think should be mentioned is how the producers, directors, and all creators involved are praising the hell out of each other on social media and really sharing the love. I've followed so many artists and VFX people and cannot stop absorbing all the BTS content they're putting out. I've already ordered the steelbook. There are countless frames in this film that need to be available as prints to hang because it is ART.
I’ve always respected Coys love for Ben Reilly! It’s a character I’ve never been high on but fascinated by those that are. Interesting idea of a character marred by a terribly executed story.
38:51
Coy did that Good Fellas laugh 😂
Holy shit I DID
Universes unravel when to many canon events are stopped, Miguel kept stopping events in the new universe. Miles didn't stop canon events in his.
One small piece I noticed. In the Vulture fight scene Miguel uses the word “shocking!” “Shocking” is profanity in the old 2099 comic books! It’s these small comic book nods that I loved.
Coy going down that comic nerd rabbit hole like Charlie Day in Always Sunny on his Pepe Silvia rant is a thing of absolute beauty.
Y’all’s Gwen continuity confusion 😂
Wow - I was memorized by this movie! Great to sit in a full theater in the 2nd weekend with an audience fully engaged with every turn the movie took. Can't wait for part 2!
I loved watching the back and forth between where Miles was and where the crew was looking for him. I noticed that the weather and color was different and then that Rio had different colored eyes!!!
Late to your channel, but I love your vibe, and you're a great facilitator/interviewer. Subscribed!
Earth-42 spider was actually going to bite Miles Morales on Earth-42, who later becomes The Prowler. So, in essence, Miles was supposed to be Spider-Man, so he’s not an anomaly or a mistake.
48:44 mark answer. Winston has it, when Miguel goes into that universe and replaces the fallen Miguel, that universe was supposed to not have a Spider-Man. It's only when he (replacement Miguel) starts to build the Spider Society does he get the help from Peter B. Parker and they both see Miguel's universe implode.
Yeah. Miguel is future Spider-Man, so if his universe had a Peter, it would have been long ago.
Great episode! Looking forward to seeing y’all in NYC. Fugghedaboudit!
I loved that they included most of the animated and the newest game Spider Man too. I think we all have a rough idea of how the third movie is going to go but I hope they can still surprise us.
Been waiting for this!!! Love your channel! Always enjoy your podcasts!!! Thank you for always providing great content!!!
Now that we have seen the success of Lord and Miller in the Spider-verse the question is What If??? Lord and Miller had been allowed to finish Solo and not replaced by Ron Howard. They have proven they know the universe of a franchise.
I need a painting of that upside scene so beautiful
They showed Miles was on the wrong world, befor he arrived. The Machine said "Universe 42" when it send him away, I knew then.
Coys enthusiasm is infectious. Loved the new movie
Coy's passion is remarkable! His speech here about Miles Morales deserves its own video! All this video in fact needs "Coy's highlights"!👏👏👏👏👏👏
one thing to note throughout this entire movie is that the use of COLOR to show emotions is such a powerful tool. for example, i was curious about the colors being shown when gwen is trying to stop miles from saving inspector singh. she's shown mostly in yellow, while miles only shows a bit on his suit.
"Colors incite both positive and negative emotions. Some positive emotions associated with yellow include happiness, excitement, originality, enthusiasm, confidence, hope, and creativity. Negative feelings connected to yellow are cowardice, illness, caution, betrayal, egotism, and anxiety ("Yellow | Color Psychology")." I think in this moment, miles shows HOPE, enthusiasm, and confidence (with a sprinkle of creativity by mentioning the moves he'd use). gwen's perspective, though, could show cowardice, caution, and anxiety since a majority of her suit shows in yellow. she's trying to stop miles from breaking the canon.
(i'm not sure if even THAT was intentional, but i think since these animators and writers put in so much work for SUCH a great result, it's meant to be looked more into.)
i will also note that a lot of stuff in this scene is shown in yellows and brighter tones, but the general tone is anxiety, caution, and maybe some excitement sprinkled in from all the chaos? i have to say that the attention to detail--even with color theory--is REALLY scratching my brain in all the right places and i LOVE it. i wish this kind of detail was put into more movies nowadays, but if it was...it wouldn't be as refreshing as it is to see it here.
I love Coy's rants! Thanks for going off and explaining the whole the Donald Glover cameo.
It's definitely Miles' story, but Gwen is telling it. That's what makes it a complete film.
Regarding Miguel destroying that other universe, he willfully inserted himself into it for his own happiness, similar to what Kingpin was attempting in the first movie. Miles had no idea that he had altered the timeline. It was just something that happened, fate.
The Spot is also willfully altering timelines for his own gain. Which may be responsible for what happened in Mumbhattan.
I find it interesting that the other big cannon event most Spiders face didn't come up. Gwen alludes to it during her talk with Miles, but I wonder what she really knows about other Gwen Stacys.
10:36 whenever people think I’M the biggest and sweatiest nerd they have or maybe ever will meet I show them this scene.😂
I did a huge 180 on the Venom movies before Let There Be Carnage dropped and I loved Mrs Chen popping up
Kudos! Amazing discussion. Great work Harloff, your channel is really getting his own essence. Love the addition of Kriss Carr to the Big Thing
45:57 I am under the impression the Miguel is an unreliable narrator. I don’t think to the extent in which he is villainous, but that there is more to the story than he is telling anyone. As a result, I think he is projecting onto Miles his own self hatred for whatever he actually did. Theory off the top of my head: the version he replaced didn’t just die, but Miguel was so distraught with not having the life he wanted that he killed the version he replaced in order to have that life.
Hey dude just wana say I’m so glad ur still succeeding! I’m a big fan of everything u do and I’ve been here for the start-end of schmoedown and everything in between. Thanks for staying with us ♥️🤟😎🤟
Minor gripe. The continuity was also a little off when he's laying on his bed and he sees Gwen staring at him from another dimension. At the end of the first film, Miles is laying in bed with just a plain gray shirt, but when we see this same scene in this film, he's wearing a Brooklyn jersey over the gray shirt. Like I said, minor gripe.
I absolutely loved this movie. It’ll definitely be in my top five at the end of the year! The worst part about this movie was the 5 minute preview for Gran Turismo that played before it
I had a thought while sleeping last night. Don't know if I was dreaming or not.
Lyla, Miguel's AI is the villain, influencing Miguel's decisions.
Other than the handful task force, all the other spideys were actually marked as anomalies and aren't allowed home (the part-time thing is obviously a lie)
She's populating the HQ universe with spideys and it will implode catastrophically
I've been waiting for this show to come out!!
Fun Fact, the blog post that first suggested Donald for Spiderman and kicking off that movement that Bendis saw was written by the Schmoedown’s own Marc Bernardin!
Just got out of the theater so i'm all set and ready for the big thing. Absolutely beautiful film. I will definitely be going back to watch it again.
This movie has a billion layers to it. Every frame is a masterpiece of art. If they close this out with the 3rd one being as good or better then this will go down as top 5 trilogies of all time.
38:00 Ben Reilly lol
Miles mom also had green eyes and her hair down the wrong side. The audience got spider sense note was a brilliant way to put it
It's a hell of a ride across the Spiderverse WOW!
Great show Kristian, loved the discussion.
Sidenote, do you think marvel forgot Secret Invasion comes out in 2 weeks? There has not been any marketing whatsoever.
Spider-Punk is for sure in the lineup that Gwen puts together at the end of this movie.
Need another hour of this discussion
Such a a great breakdown 12:50
My take is semi similar on the universe collapses thing although the way I read it is beyond Spider-Man, Miguel went to a universe where he was supposed to be dead, so HE was living and effecting a universe he wasn’t supposed to be in. Not only is Miles just filling the role of Spider-Man, he is in his own universe. But on top of that, if Miguel’s speech is right in the aspect of Miles is an anomaly and isn’t suppose to be spiderman, then there is a real possibility that the traditional Spiderman cannon events wouldn’t necessarily apply to him. Going to be interesting how that is all explained and resolved in the final film. But jeez, this movie was fantastic.
In a side, I couldn’t believe just how much tension and suspense they were able to create once miles got back to the wrong universe before that fact was revealed. With the spider team hunting him.
Also the animation of this was mind. F*cking. Blowing.
Kristian, if you haven't already, you gotta clip out that whole segment around 14:45 where Coy starts talking about how Lord and Miller designed Miguel (2099). It'll blow up on the social medias.
God I LOVED this movie and the more I’ve thought about the plot and the twist I love it even more. It also explains why this universe sucks…I didn’t get bit so my apologies🤷♂️
It’s okay that you always bring the conversation back to Star Wars, Kristian. I do it often as well.
48:24 When Miguel was describing the destruction of the universe he accidently destroyed, Peter B Parker was there (based off the flashback scene) but I don't think that was Peter B Parker's universe. I think Peter B Parker and other Spider-Man arrived to help Miguel fix what had already been broken. Essentially Miguel knew he screwed up, called all the Spider-Man he could, including Peter B Parker. But it was too late and the entire dimension was destroyed. Then Peter B Parker and the other
Spiderman went back to there original dimension.
Such a great movie and great commentary from y'all as always
Coy's enthusiasm for this stuff is so infectious, I could literally listen to this dude talk about Marvel all day. And after listening to a few other YT shows talk about the movie, I realized I'd dozed off during a couple scenes and now need to see it again. [which I was going to do anyways...] Can't wait to buy a physical copy of this so I can pause and catch everything on the screen.
Am I the only one who noticed immediately that he was in the wrong universe, cause the screen clearly shows "Earth 42" when the machine is setting up?
That's crazy if you watch Into the Spider-Verse at about the 12 minute mark while Miles and Uncle Aaron are doing the mural in the train station the spider from what we now know is earth 42 clearly glitches meaning this whole twist was planned from the start, makes it even more amazing to me.
I hope we get a series based on adventures of all the other Spiders done in vastly different art styles. No ongoing story arcs, just Tales of the Spider-Verse one-offs
I saw the movie twice, two days apart; totally LOVED IT. I'm not a Comic book expert at all. Can one of you draw a temporal roadmap for all this? Loved this discussion Thx :)
Hey Kristian big fan of the show always wondered have you ever thought of done a vlog/ a day in life when it comes to how you go about your day when you have shows .I know it’s absolutely would be kinda hard because youd wanna protect your families privacy but just wondering I think that would be cool
I think there talk about validation actually rings true with a lot of DC fans. As a person who loved Batman the animated series, Superman, Justice league, justice league unlimited, Batman beyond, and young justice it’s hard loving a lot of these DC movies when you know what DC is truly capable of. And no disrespect to other DC movies but it still feels like we haven’t seen a true DC universe one that brings us back to comics or TV from our childhood I want to cry at DC movies like Coy did at across the spider verse but I don’t think we’ve truly seen it yet on screen and maybe will never see it. Only The dark knight movie is excluded because that was a great DC movie but marvel has had at least 10 different movies that made people childhood dreams come true. DC fans are looking for maybe at least 4.
Watching it tonight, Good show guys
The second he was being "sent home" I knew he was being sent to a different universe because they made it a point to mention how the spider came from Universe 42. And Gwen hanging outside of the window wasn't completely syncing up to Miles talking to his mother. I glossed over the hair because by that point I was convinced he was in a different universe.
As far as I can remember, they never mention that the spider comes from earth 42, that spider is associated with the number 42 explicitly but they never say anything about it being the universe the spider comes from. You can tell right away if you pay attention to the numbers of the universes that he's going to the wrong one in that scene because Miles is from 1610, and then the screen says 42
Across the Spider Verse was amazing! I’ve seen it twice already. Spider Punk steals the show for sure!
The earth 42 spider was suppose to bite prowler miles. You can see proper miles in the flashback of how the spot became the spot
Such a good movie!! Cannot wait to see this again and again! Great spoiler discussion crew
I just see it as Miles is still in his OG universe not living in another one as well as there not being a Spider-Man anymore in his universe
The Earth 42 spider was actually going to bite Miles in class in that universe. You can see Miles when the spider gets taken.
The validation sounds like Robert Burnett talking about Picard S3
I love when Coy takes off lol
I clocked when the go home machine scanned him that it said earth 42 so knew he was heading to the wrong universe. Also was it just me or were his mum's eyes a different colour? The level of detail in this film was amazing! Great breakdown as always lads 👌🏽
The twist @ the end didnt QUITE work for me only because when he was escaping 2099 I saw the screen said earth 42.
I didn’t notice the jacket colors until the second watch, but on my first viewing I also immediately noticed the different decorations on the wall. The scene w Gwen opening the action figure and looking @ his stuff in retrospect is there to tip their hand when he enters the new bedroom. His red poster is now blue, no toys on the wall etc etc
I noticed too and screamed out loud nooo but there was a lot of people that the twist worked cause people gasped when Miles glitched
Spider-punk is there with Gwen at the end. And the 42 spider was suppose to bite universe 42 MIles Morales. its a quick look but the Spot flash back has the 42 spider going after a kid in school that has the same hair style as the universe 42 Miles Morales. Its a blink and you miss it moment. But it also explains why out Miles is the glitch, and how his Peter wasnt supposed to die. here was so many foreshadowing parts of the reveal eve from the first movie and the 42 spider glitching. great callbacks on a superb movie. best Spiderman movie of all time for me.
This movie wasn’t on my most anticipated going into this yr, but I throughly enjoyed it. It’s on par with the 1st one imo, and Miguel was my favorite character. The Animation is really stunning
Thanks you Coy and Winston! Awesome show! As a comic book fan, I want deep dives like this! Guys you miss the point on that question about Miguel O'hara. In that you universe that Spiderman was Meant to die. If there was meant to be a replacement, or no more Spiderman, Spiderman 2099 disrupted that universes Absolute Point in time. Miles is writing a new chapter in tve Web of Destiny. We are going to discover Miles is not a mistake! I believe Earth 42 Miles was meant to be Spiderman, but despite the Spider being transported, it found a Miles Morales. Remember every universe does not have the same Nexus Point, or the same Absolute Point of Time.
One thing i will say about this movie was that it was the first since the pandemic that I watched it and immediately was trying to figure out when I can go see it again.
Yooo I get what Miguel was doing but to tell Miles that he didn’t belong and he was mistake was crazy, I love the directors said that was a commentary on those (some racist) fans that said miles could never be Spider-Man, that’s beautiful, as a black man, I picked up on that heavy asf
The one character that I am pretty sure that no one picked up on simply because no one even knows about him was Video Man. This was a character that was not from the comics but from Spider-Man and his Amazing Friends animated series from 1981. I used to watch that show as a kid and was my real first introduction to Spider-Man besides the comics.
That upside down scene gave me vertigo. An animated movie gave me vertigo...
It’s my favorite movie of the year so far. Seen it once and seeing it again. Beyond the spiderverse is now one of my most anticipated movies next year
This could’ve been a 2 hour talk! So much to talk about in this movie. Love the content tho 👊🏼 INCREDIBLE FILM!
so you noticed the different coloured hoodies but you didn't notice the computer saying universe 42 when the machine scans him before sending him? okay then.
Koy's Donald Glover Prowler needs to be a short
No one brought up the fact that the guy who got hit by a bagel turned into the bagel from everything everywhere all at once.
I had this interesting thing where I saw the Go Home Machine clearly say Universe 42, and yet I convinced myself I must have mis-seen and bought he was telling his mom he was Spider-Man.
The Spiderman 2 game comes out this year. I wonder if Beyond will have any game Easter eggs.
I'm so happy that Spiderman fans can get a movie like this.
I hope I can have my X-men moment. Perhaps in Deadpool 3.
