"Religion is, indeed, the self-consciousness and self-esteem of man who has either not yet won through to himself, or has already lost himself again. But man is no abstract being squatting outside the world. Man is the world of man - state, society. This state and this society produce religion, which is an inverted consciousness of the world, because they are an inverted world. Religion is the general theory of this world, its encyclopaedic compendium, its logic in popular form, its spiritual point d’honneur, its enthusiasm, its moral sanction, its solemn complement, and its universal basis of consolation and justification. It is the fantastic realization of the human essence since the human essence has not acquired any true reality. The struggle against religion is, therefore, indirectly the struggle against that world whose spiritual aroma is religion. Religious suffering is, at one and the same time, the expression of real suffering and a protest against real suffering. Religion is the sigh of the oppressed creature, the heart of a heartless world, and the soul of soulless conditions. It is the opium of the people. The abolition of religion as the illusory happiness of the people is the demand for their real happiness. To call on them to give up their illusions about their condition is to call on them to give up a condition that requires illusions. The criticism of religion is, therefore, in embryo, the criticism of that vale of tears of which religion is the halo." - Karl Marx, 1843, A Contribution to the Critique of Hegel's Philosophy of Right.
I love listening to comrade Forrest just tear into capitalism. I agree 100% with everything he said on the subject of money, capitalism, and the death we deal to enrich military contractors.
I agree with Forrest! I absolutely hate this time of year. I have many reasons why but won't elaborate on this platform. I am trying to encourage my small family to lets get together and eat good meals together periodically so we are not so caught up during this time of year. I also try to buy small considerate gifts for loved one throughout the year. The excessive spending during this time of year is sinful

Forrests' take on gods plan hits home to me, as a former muslim we believed in inshaAllah ( if allah wills) to the fullest degree. Even believing in Allahs decree is part of the articles of iman(faith). 😒im still in my angry phase of leaving religion, but i had a really hard time believing that allah truly loved me if he kept allowing all these bad things happen to me even though i believed, loved, fear, and was in awe of him. But were told that bad things happening to you IS allahs love😔. I was so conflicted and confused but i didnt allow myself to really question it.
I've heard the same argument about suffering used to justify the Christian god, just shows there's no BS like religious BS, no matter what the religion.
It's the same in Christianity; the suffering of people is just a means to give glory to God. That sounds evil to me, especially when there's people working for the benefit of humanity just to help us thrive.
@ziploc2000 the sheiks would say, "you don't know if you sinned or not"🤔 "so this is Allah correcting you with his love, through trials and tribulations" I was having visceral reactions everytime I heard that towards the end for a few years before I finally learned that islam is really hurting me

Been a fan of the Thinking Atheist since I saw you interview Forrest and Erica. Love all your channels. Always happy to see new content from each of you.
Great video. I love how it was originally meant to be light hearted. But i love more how it turned to the reality of our dystopian world. I end up boring people with the knowledge ive learned in the attempt to educate and yes, wake people up. It was really good to see Forrest go on about the immorality and injustice in our world and that to fix it really wouldnt take much at all. We have everything we need to make sure everyone goes home at the end of the day happy. Its just the mental illness of small percentage of people who spoil this. We should not allow this. Just from the greed aspect, all religions and the non- religious agree that greed is bad but churches still do it, in the extreme, and we praise them and the billionaires for making a dystopia. Cognitive dissonance. Its well within out power to fix it but educating people to understand this is a long uphill battle. Especially when you have groups like Prager U and think tanks and monsters like Kissinger constantly pulling us into the parasite infected cess pool they cant do without.
Of all the podcasts you have done, this is the absolute BEST EVER!! I shared it with a friend and she LOVED it! Her words: "I LOVE these guys...where did you find them?" So now I have to share this on Facebook with my other 4k plus friends. Thank you so, so much! You guys are AWESOME!
I can listen to these two all day!! Forrest is my age/generational and I’m amazed at his scientific knowledge. I know Seth’s story and how he was a Christian. Does anyone have a video of Forrest story in the sense of was he religious or was did he always grow up an atheist?
People, you both are amazing! I couldn't agree more with nearly every word you said. I've been asking myself since my early childhood, "how can billionaires live knowing there are so many suffering and pain everywhere?" The same applies to a god. Education can solve so many problems. Thank you both. Keep the good work!
Heard some say a little while back that they have no issues with how good their memory is, it's the filing system their brain uses that's faulty. I agree with this. Someone asks if you remember x outcome to Y situation and you say, "nope", and yet halfway through the first sentence the whole scenario comes tumbling back. All those questions asked in a quiz show that you only remember you know, and why you know, once the correct answer is given. Before then your brain was acting like a child sucking its thumb!
Tom Paxton has a lovely song with the refrain, "If the poor don't matter, then neither do I." Billionaires treat the rest of us like we don't matter. Without all us people to exploit, they wouldn't have two cents.

@@cullenarthur8879 I just feel Stomare's performance had better range, was more nuanced, and more human. 18:35 I love Forest! I just had this exact argument with my wife. Taylor Swift seems like a genuinely good hearted person but I'm sorry, the fact that she has a billion dollars means the thousands of people that make her shows happen are ALL under paid. Billionaires are intrinsically immoral 🤷🏼♂️
I'm not a Swift fan, but it seems she just spent $50 million on bonuses for the people that made her show happen. Including the truck drivers. That's pretty cool.
Seeing that her father was a Merrill Lynch and her mother was a mutual fund marketing executive I have the hint that even though she is a liberal, she's isn't anti capitalist. I'm not in the business of supporting billionaires, but that doesn't necessarily equate (depends on what you mean by "under paid"), because she also makes a lot of money from merchandising, CDs, appearances etc. So you would need to take all of that into account and then calculate how much she is getting from the surplus value. But then you must decide how much she should get because she is the reason alot of people have jobs, permanently on her staff, or partially for when they work her show at a venue. And the venues employ the people and set the wages and rates along with the ticket company. The ticket company and venue gets the money and the artists get a small cut from that, with someone has big as Taylor Swift she gets a larger cut than normal though. It demonstrates how the theft of surplus value is built within the structure of business in capitalism. But as big as she is she could get little from each aspect and still be rich, because she tours heavy, puts out lots of albums and in high demand.
My perception of paradise is that it's real and I've experienced it and continue to experience it even when I suffer because as long as my mind exists and someone I love is happy, I'm experiencing paradise.
