I’ve been through the same exact experience. When I started gambling I never drank alcohol, as I started to gamble more and more I started drinking heavily, especially when I lost. Before I knew it, I became a full on alcoholic. I stopped gambling temporarily but I was still an alcoholic. I started gambling again, and soon after I was arrested for drunk driving. Lost my job and my all my saving on lawyer fees and still got convicted anyways. It was the lowest point in my life. Kept gambling and continued to ruin my life.
Today, I haven’t had a drink in 2 months and I haven’t gambled for a week. I plan on never doing either of them again and I pray for the strength to persevere through my addictions

The craziest thing about gambling is your never really ahead you pay taxes on “winnings “ and you have way more loses not to mention the fees for atm, the travel to casino, the drinks ,the debts from your credit cards ,overdrafts from your bank ,the people you owe ,the savings you blew through the 401K you dip into ,the money you STEAL ,the lies you tell ,the time away from your kids and family you loose , the hard earned paychecks you throw away, the promises you break, the self control you lose, the sadness that consumes you.

First time I ever went in a casino I walked out $2500.00 ahead. That was the hook. Once I won a $6000 jackpot and 5 hours later they got every penny back plus $600 more. It’s a terrible feeling. Plus the nasty smoking and smells and depressed looking losers.

@Lexie praying for you .. you have a few choices
1.) Make yourself stay away, sign yourself out and seek help through gambling help hotline
2.) Take very little money in and ween yourself off the gambling .. say go with $50 and DO NOT take a credit card or bank card so you have to leave after money is gone.
3.) Stay away and each week watch your bank account grow, treat yourself to some new things .. instead of blowing hundreds a month gambling go buy some new shoes, clothes etc ... save up what you would typically lose gambling and in 6-months to a year go on a nice vacation.
4.) Find other hobbies .. working in yard, planting flowers .. doing crafts, shopping, movies etc maybe join a gym to stay busy and build your self esteem
... praying for you, trust in the Lord and ask him to help you, i wish you the best

@Sidihmed BgTry not to continue gambling. Take a break as needed. If you feel that you want to gamble, try gambling less with less money. Play really small. By doing this, you will no longer feel the need to gamble as much.

It’s definitely a mindset because the first time my friend showed me how to play blackjack I won $125 playing on a $5 chip buy in. Funny thing was I didn’t even use my own money. He gave me a $5 chip which I turned into over $100 just buy doubling down. Ya I could’ve got addicted but I didn’t. He got mad that I won so much money with only $5 some guy kept high five-ing me because I kept rolling a 7 or something and he came up and hugged me and told me I’m winning him a lot of money. Between that and all the shots we were taking, it was a fun experience!

Stupid comment, gambling is much better at regulated companies than people gambling between each other or going to black market places to gamble, if you lose money at a casino etc, they aren’t going to come after you and hurt you for their money.
Lose it a black market group etc or an individual and they will come after you for money you owe them and they will hurt you.
Gambling needs regulation and safety procedures to protect individuals.

Worse thing you can do is win your first bet!
It can turn into a lifetime addiction! At some point every heavy/compulsive gambler has to stop before they end up in the gutter! If your on a losing run you’ll tell yourself one more win then I’ll stop but how long before you win an amount that you’re happy with? You’ll always want more and you’ll always go back! The best way to attempt to stop is to find other interests as people gamble because of boredom! 💵

Know your triggers and try divergent tactics.
The longer you stay away the stronger you become.
Interesting point that depressed women gamble.
Perhaps a trip to a GP to get help for both depression and addiction is needed.

I started doing fantasy sports at about 18 years old and idk if that's considered gambling but I think I was hooked on that, I think that gambling is bad if it's like luck based games like sports betting is more skilled based but imo I would just stay away from the casino since winning is out of your control. Also separating your emotions from winning or losing is the best thing to do if you do gamble.

Beware of the slippery slope . That is all I have to say .

Thank you for sharing your experience with us: as a woman who loathed the casino environment for decades and then became a casino regular after winning my first jackpot, I empathize with you and your frustration with the word ‘addict’. I told someone recently that it isn’t the losses that got me hooked: it was the wins. And even though I know that the costs were high, I am still struggling with not going back because all I think about is how I can turn $100 into $1k into $2k, etc. I am so angry at myself for ever being susceptible to this issue: I thought I was too smart to get addicted but I have been humbled to learn that I am not alone.

How could i recover this addiction for for years ?? I accepted the loss and i knew the fact you never win anything back your face became very well known to all casinos because the gaming regulation ins has a well face recognition for all casinos all over the country you never win against a full staff with cams watching you , you never get any penny back from computers and artificial intelligence controlling every game not only machines also tables , you never stand alone against whom want you lose money to cover the 60 %or up taxes return in earnings to cover the whole glamorous lights free drinks and staff wages ! Now the only reason i book in any casino is to vandalize their place and drink free smt eat free . Never spend a penny ,Never spend a penny . This should be the motto for all gamblers Never spend a penny.and lastly never get hooked by any winners story they try to flush because it is all lies to get you fall back in their net .
