Thanks for coming to Fairbanks! I hope you made it to Chena Hot Springs to soak in the geothermal outdoor pool, and hike in the gorgeous mountains and hills. You mentioned the’67 flood. One of my favorite stories is a UAF Physics Professor borrowed a friend’s boat to ferry stranded people from downtown to the University which sits on higher ground, and accidentally put a hole in the boat when he ran over a submerged parking meter! I also replaced a window in my first house that had a waterline mark half way up the window. Lastly, Morris Thompson was a well loved Alaska Native who was CEO of Doyon, the Alaska Native Regional Corporation for Interior Alaska. It was very sad when he and his family died in an Alaska Airlines crash coming back home from vacationing in Mexico. Looking forward to more walking videos!
Hi Dorothy, thanks so much for that wonderful background information. I love hearing local stories like that. Fairbanks area was a very cool place to visit and we got to see the Aurora three times while we were there including once at China Hot Springs. We also went down to the Alaska range near or beyond Delta Junction to do a couple hikes. After Fairbanks, we went south and spent a couple days at Denali national Park and then one day at Talkeetna. Glad you are enjoying the videos and thanks again for the wonderful comment. Keep on steppin’ - H.
Such perfect timing for this vid! TY! Heading up to Fairbanks for my first time in Alaska next month to go Aurora chasing. We're staying at Chena Hot Springs
Wonderful! We spent two nights at Chena and saw some amazing Aurora the first night. Be aware, their little restaurant filled up early at least one night and that's the only place to get a cocktail. If that's your thing, you might consider bringing a personal stash. The outdoor hot springs were wonderful. I hope you get good weather and conditions for the viewing. -H
Thank You for this autumnal walk even though it is early September! I was surprised to see the Browning of the leaves on the trees so early. You never babble Henry. You bring us interesting facts about the places you visit. Don't stop. It's one of the things that makes your channel so great 😀
Thank you so much. And yes, it was a nice surprise to arrive at peak autumn and a bit of a shock to arrive back in MT to 80 degrees and trees just starting to turn. I get two falls this year👍 -H
This is really bringing back memories. It is taking me back to my time in Fairbanks! I live in England, but was very fortunate to be in Fairbanks for September of 2003, after travelling up the Seward and George Parks Highways. I stayed in Billie's Backpackers Hostel, not too far from the University of Alaska Fairbanks (where I had some very happy wanderings!). The nights between the 17th and the 24th of the month were just magical for the northern lights, as 2003 was a year of many geomagnetic storms, though I did have to wait a week before I saw anything. I learnt that you have to be patient, spend as much time as possible in the right place, be there at the right time in the solar cycle, and spend as much time as possible outside at night, and also hope that the sun and weather oblige! Alaska was simply stunning in the autumn, with all those beautiful yellow and golden fall colours. I loved the journey we took up the Parks Highway from Anchorage to Fairbanks in a small minibus. I can still remember some of the stops we made, such as near Cantwell (Broad Pass), and Denali. I even think you ended this video where the minibus stopped to drop some people off, in front of the log cabin, before taking us on to the hostel! The Morris Thompson Cultural & Visitors Center was not there at the time, but the rest is very familiar! Oh, the memories!
I am so glad you got to experience Alaska. We actually spent two nights in Cantwell while we visited Denali. September was an amazing month to visit and the colors are spectacular there as I’m sure you saw. We were also lucky enough to see the aurora and, it was pretty fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing your memories and all the best. - H.
Great to see you back and in Fairbanks Alaska this an awesome place there to see and walk around some of my kinfolk used to go up there a lot on their vacations and i watch a lot of videos on Fairbanks and other part's of Alaska i really enjoy seeing the local businesses they have there and hope to see more of Fairbanks have a great week Thanks Henry.🏔🗻🇺🇲
Golden heart city. Due to good luck and bad luck and that Gold trade established fairbanks in 1902. I retweaked my holiday for next spring. Now we start in fairbanks. Take the train to talkeetna. Stay a night. Then the train to anchorage. The next morning the train to seward. And on the cruise the train in Skagway. I am super excited. It seems like such a long time to wait but as we know time flys. Your walks a great....😂
Nice walk! Wow, the weather in Fairbanks in early September is really similar to early November here in NJ. I remember all those beautiful autumn colors, and fallen leaves🍁, with a temperature in the 50s, when we experience the transition from summer to winter! Pretty cool.
Thank you for another beautiful video!
So nice of you. I really enjoying hearing when people like them. Cheers. -H

Alaska gives pacific north west vibes. Kinda like that seattle- Tacoma area
Hi Brian, it sure does. It’s a wet place for sure. -H
Did you whale watch or go fishing ?
Not on this trip but we saw several moose, grouse, a weasel, and the auror borealis!
@CityWalks Sounds like you had a lot of fun, I have always wanted to visit Alaska.Maybe some day I will .😊
Love the walk, but I was hit with political commercials every 5 minutes! Just thought you would want to know.
Oh sorry about that. It’s the season I guess. I don’t control the ads on the channel unfortunately. Thanks for making me aware though. -H
@@CityWalks I am hoping it eases up once the election is over. Love your walks though - especially going to France with you over the summer. :-)
@@gwengilliam917 Ah great. So glad you are enjoying the France walks. -H
