    In older models like mine (1979 55hp johnson) there was no spring in the gear housing to keep the clutch dog in place so it was done with the linkage pressure only. For this reason this video probably applies better to newer models which introduced the spring. I'm not expert but would love to get others thoughts on that as I'm sure that my model doest have a spring loaded clutch dog and i'm also sure they introduced them later on.

    This was really helpful, I have a 150hp Johnson and when I put it in reverse I only have a small amount of throttle play. I can only reverse at idle speed which I assume is an issue with the throttle cable. Is there another video regarding throttle? @Hello Everyone

    Hi I have a 70 hp outboard johnson motor need help on the throttle. The issue is when I put it n forward out of neutral the motor dont start going till I put the throttle to the max.

    • @cenkaetaya
      @cenkaetaya  Год назад +1

      Seems like you need to have someone push lever into forward slowly while you look and see what happens at the cable end under the engine cowling. It also could be an issue with the controller if everything else looks correct on the engine side when doing it back and fourth.

      My boat guy I told him he say it might be the timing but I'm doing a tune up on it to see if it will run differently it'll not he say bring it to him and he will do the timing on there.

      @@slickwill456 it's possible if you just watch the levers move you should be able to tell pretty quickly if something doesn't seem right.

      I did have someone there when I pulled the lever forward I pulled it out of neutral nothing move then when I pulled it to the max it moved its like my 70hp supposed to do 40MPH it does like 20 when it's pulled to the max

    My o ring guide slips off all the time. I took a binder clip from my office drilled a hole and attached that to over the o ring guide (end of the clutch controller cable) and the clutch lever like binding a inch thick ream of papers. The o ring guide at the end of the control cable doesn't line up vertical with the clutch lever. Any other ideas on that issue of the clutch cable slipping off the clutch lever. The design baffles me as the throttle cable is held on with a bolt washer and nut but not the clutch cable. Do I have the clutch and throttle cables reversed?

    I have an Evinrude 48 spl. It wont shift into reverse while the boat is in the water, it only grinds. But out of the water it shifts into reverse just fine. Any idea what it could be? Neutral and forward are perfect

    • @bellarmine33
      @bellarmine33 Год назад

      Don't know if you still need help with your shifter. Only thing I can think, why it works on land but not in water, is the shifter mid-neutral point is off, not engaging in reverse fully. Works on land due to no resistance, but in water will 'slip'. Try disconnecting the shift lever at the motor, and shift the motor into gear by operating the lever under the hood manually back and forth (look out for the flywheel...:o), see if that works differently. Anything else let me know - Cheers!~ Bellarmine

    Thank you for the video! I do have a question though. We just bought a 1979 glastron with a 1993 evinrude tracker 40hp. We can't seem to figure out why the throttle box makes a very loud buzzing sound. Do you know what this is?

    • @cenkaetaya

    I have a Envirude 140 outboard 1988, I just replaced both shifting cables and throttle cable today and also a new throttle. while my new throttle at the helm is in the nuetral position I start the boat up and the boat is wide open... scary to say the least but I'm trying to understand the best way to correct this..

    • @cenkaetaya
      @cenkaetaya  2 года назад

      I would look at what is going on with the lever and possibly disconnect it, you could even start the boat up and use the lever manually with your hand. This way if you're moving a controller you can see what is going on that is causing it to be wrong if you can just run it fine with your hand.

      Sound like the shift link is broken, check for the bolt it may have just fallen out, or the controls are not working and you just need to shift it by hand.

    Glad I didn’t take this guys advise.... i would’ve wasted a lot of time. He has no clue what he’s talking about. I adjusted my cable about 10 turns and boom! Done!

    • @cenkaetaya
      @cenkaetaya  6 лет назад +1

      10 turns is a lot. That goes under the category of what I said that unless it's a really out of position it's probably not a shifting related issue. However if it is that far out of position you will be able to tell fairly easily by just switching it back and forth and seeing how it reacts. Anyways good job.
