When that happens, it's normally because your formula has a field value that doesn't exist. Possible that you have spelt the field value differently to how it is stated in the database table. For example if the field name is Amount Paid and you use the formula = avg( [AmountPaid] ) then it doesn't recognise AmountPaid because the one in the table has a space.
In the ribbon at the top, under Report Design, you should see from the left: Views | Themes | Grouping and Totals, in the Grouping and Totals part there should be a Group & Sort button you can click to get the bottom options.

Mr Long, my grouping average only shows when I click on it, and when I don't, it's not visible

Hi Mr Long, my access does not have the same group, sort and total as on your access ( 5:04 ). Is that a setting i must add somewhere?
