- Silic one from Hempel is on our boat as antifoul and we want to give you an update about it's performance so far. With a bit of a shocking result!
We're sailing the ria's of Galicia Spain wich are very beautiful and diverse.
We'll take you on a pinetree walk in the ria after rounding Finisterre. Then checked out the little fishing village Muros and got surprised with a pot of dolphins on our way out ria de Arosa.
If you're interested in the video where we put on the Silic One antifoul, check out this video: • Silic one antifoul, so...
Hi guys, what is your boat length and speed when you have been sailing? We have the silic one on the boat and its performing really well. We have had some sections where the top coat has come off however i believe this is an error from when i did the initial painting.. I will say, many times when i go under the boat our waterline looks a bit like yours. clean rag gets it right off.
Hi guys, we have an oceanis 393 so lenght over all is 11,68m. I guess the water line is around 11m. The speeds vary with the course and wind speed but we do 6-7 knots easy. With a bit more wind we try to not go faster than 8 knots as this feels we are pushing to much with the risk of breaking stuff.
Thats unfortunate. Hopefully the top coat can be repaired easily
We scraped it off and put oldschool antifauling on it...
@@sailingheron393 sorry to hear that, costly process
Curious how to repair. Will the top coat stick to itself after it has cured? I hope Hempel takes this opportunity to show a great after sales service. It is expensive enough....
We need to dive into that and also email Hempel for advice. Vincent bought a good dive suit and is going to clean the bottom tomorrow with a different cleaning technique. If that will be better, we can talk about it with Hempel.
Hi, I'm considering using Silic One but am seeing contradicting info on coverage rates of the Silic One (top coat) of between 6 and 10m^2/l. do you know how much you used on your boat. we're 36' so will take that into account.
Hi Hanna, we used a bit more than the covarage rates. I think about 15-20 litres of the primer and for the tiecoat & silic one 2 cans of each more.
The peeling silic one is super disappointing :-( application error or dragged off attached to barnacles or scraped with barnacles stuck in the soft rag?
We think there where barnacles in the soft rag that scratched it of. We tried a different method, a flexible plastic cuttingboard, wich is not adviced by Hempel, but that worked great to get them off. Now, we don't have barbacles anymore (warmer waters???) and the green stuff we take off with a soft brush.
@@sailingheron393 Glad it's doing well for you now, I guess! Just looks a bit fragile for me. I'm considering a home-brew epoxy+copper coating as I'm sick of the status quo and ready to try something else. I have a couple of other mechanical ideas that I think I need to work on in combination with the hull coating, though.
@@fredio54 I'm trialing a home brew copper coat now. So far it's working well on the test board
@@calmauric8218 subscribed - do a vid on your recipe and results etc if you have time - rough and ready one-take is fine, no need for anything fancy unless you want to :-D
@@fredio54 absolutely. It's peak barnacle season right now. I'll be flipping the dinghy over in a few weeks time, I'll make a short video and explain the mixture and review the growth
