I agree 100%. The worst part is this entire firmware update feels like 2 years too late. Th only upgrade that had such a huge impact was DCI 4K. Again, 2 years late to the game. We're staring at 6K cameras (such as the R3).

NO ONE uses the a7s iii primarily for photography. so they did a money grab and then came out with a "dedicated " cinema camerain the FX3. smh. If we, the collective, would have known they were going to do this bs, we would have waited for the FX3. Everyone does not have the moeny to just camera hop on a whim so we all can't just switch over to go buy a new body... becasue its Wednesday. With that said, to know that they screwed us and then took three years to give a significant update (that leaves A LOT to be desired) is just another kick in the teeth to us. They clearly are making cameras, at a lesser price point, with more features, that can be easily ported to our higher-end camera and they outright refuse to do it. Most of my lenses are not Sony so focus breathing is nice but does not impact me. Erasing all my setting for true 24K - which I have to download a license to add - is crazy. Charging for a grid pack - like I am collectin Pokémon cards - is insane. No animal eye detect - when it is in the menue, no luts...the list is endless. I can't even comprehend how they took this long to do so little. But, it is what it is. But it's intentionally little.

Though the EVF is amazing I never use it so the FX3 would and should have been it. It’s just that I KNOW they are deliberately NOT upgrading the A7S III, while it was the original flagship, is aggravating.
I was worried Sony would not give the new quick menu and the new moving shooting layout woth touch operation. But Sony actually overacheive the update not just give focus breathing compensation and dci 4k (actually two features I see myself not using), but give the new menu (which is better features for me). Overall I think it is a great firmware update should be. Yes it is still missing the user lut. But I have no complain for Sony this time.

I just started using LUTs. I have no message in my videos, but I wanted them to be real and orange. I bought a gimbal. It took 3 days to balance it. It’s a hobby for me, but it’s fun to learn.

I found an error with the connection between the a7siii and any zhiyun gimbal. The REC button no longer works on the gimbal and information such as AV is shown and controlled, but the ISO is changed incorrectly and randomly. Has anyone had this problem and managed to resolve it?

hello Vu I love your content. You are good at describing complex things in a way so that everyone can understand. Vu I may need your help with one minor things regarding this update. I have the new firmware on my Sony A7s3 and have some issues with Auto focus with Face and Eye detection when set for Human subject. The issue is this: focus works fine when my head is horizontal but if I stay with my head upside down the camera fails to focus on my eyes. This did not happen with previous firmware version (2.10 I know not quite previous but that was last before updating to 2.15 and 3.0. Please let me know if you experience this kind of issue also. Maybe somehow is a problem. Happens with both lenses that I have GM2 24-70 & GM2 16-35mm. Kind regards and thank you so much in advance.

The update I want for FX3 is the bloody variable shutter because that's what FX30 which cost half the price has. I also wonder how come being a cinema cam but it doesn't comes with waveform and only histogram. Who use histogram for video work?
Omg, finally someone sane. Focus breathing is such a gimmick. There are many iconic classic cinema lenses that have focus breathing and cinematographers don't avoid it. You can see it happen in many classic films. Us Sony fans are not blind followers, we love Sony for what they do and we're aware of things that need to be called out.

To say I’m disappointed is an understatement. Which is why I still won’t remove a monitor from my SIII set up. The flip out screen is practically just an autofocus touch tool. And if I’m just out and about having fun without a monitor, I’m grabbing the ZVE1.

On 2.02 When viewing images in playback mode there is a icon overlay that is virtually telling you if you press the playback button again while you're in that mode you can go back to shooting. Um... It's a professional camera, why does one need an distracting icon to tell them that they can go back to shooting by pressing a playback button when one can just press the shutter button. Is there any way to get rid of that distracting icon? Sometimes it covers up one of my subjects eyes. And it really kills the vibe when showing clients photos you have taken.

Breathing compensation is 1000000% a scam. They want to convince us it is a huge problem. Admittedly really old photography lenses is indeed a problem, but new lenses really don't have that anywhere near as bad. If you watch the dozens of cinematic masterpieces of even the last ten years, such as Joker 2019, you can see static shots where there is noticable breathing if you pay attention only on the edges. But even then, the filmmakers behind these movies literally dont care about breathing on their $30,000 lens. Because nobody but us are gonna notice and even remotely care about it. I tell this to my customers as I sell cameras and lenses for a living. Thank you for noting this to the world. Bonus: aperture blade count doesnt matter much either at all. Breaking Bad has fucking hexagonal bokeh and it's gorgeous. Stop thinking you need 25 aperture blades and no breathing.

Honestly, i have the Sony A7C II - and even though people try to say its not a "professional" camera. I disagree. Its the same sensor as the A74 but with better optics and the newer AI chip with better auto focus, auto framing, etc. And of course, the ability to upload user LUTs. Ive been using them, and they work great on my camera and are fun to use! i love the A7C II - and i have the DJI Mic 2 when im filming for my church. If anyone has the DJI Mic 2, i HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend getting the DJI Lavelier lapel mic they came out with! No joke, somehow the audio sounds even better! Like a lot better! More fuller sound and its cool you can rotate the mic 360° to get it to aim wherever you clip it. So yeah, pro tip, get the Lav mic for the DJI 2. Anyways Vu, dont worry brother, Sony will eventually give those updates when the A9 III has been out for the next 30 years
Focus breathing is not a bad thing but it surely is on the 35 and 50mm lenses (which means the breathing compensation option is worth it). Also, the timecode option is absolutely game-changing for some A7SIII users out there (me included). Regardless, love the video :D

Unfortunately I did the update and regret it. The text is so small for aperture, shutter speed, exposure and ISO. I rely on the exposure all the time to make sure I am overexposed by 1.7 in Slog3. If you haven’t done the update don’t!!
Im a fujifilm camera user. I went to the mall to check a7c2 and fx30. I was surprised by the screen display because at first I thought it was broken. 😂 Then i remember his video saying the display screen of sony cameras are trash
Vu, you are funny as hell, but you are speaking straight truth here!!! Vu, your thinking on your shoot was spot on, you must always be thinking about having audio covered for yourself. I can't tell you how many times that we were told it would be fine, but we instead had our Zoom F6, plugged into the mixing board, or some solution similar to what you did, which saved us from the douche bags that we were dealing with. Long live VU-Diddy!!! I would have wanted custom Luts, Shutter Angle, and the ability to use hard drives, like the Panasonic. Cine EI isn't bad for what it is, which is what the A7SIII should have, but won't. I haven't upgraded from an A7SIII to a Fx3, because my business partner has one and we still use Blackmagic as well.
The A7S3 is a far more ideal camera for hybrid work compared to FX3. It’s not pumping out the resolution of an A7IV, but 12MP is more than enough for your average event photography work that most people won’t be able to discern. The FX3 is a solid workhorse video camera, but if you do both stills and video, the FX3 is downright terrible for it. And while you jab your friends for sticking with the A7S3, I think the EVF makes for it a great case (on top of its stills capacity) to contend against the FX3 for video. And this update equalizes the disparity. And god Vu, the same user lut argument, just for viewing on the same small FX3 screen that isn’t bigger or better than the A7S3? When you can load it into an external monitor? Common man. At the end of the day, different strokes for different folks. I usually like your sarcastic critique, but this shit fest felt more on hating on your friends rather than being actually self aware and constructive.
I don’t own any of these cameras, but when you bought these models…did you buy it based on future updates & features? Why complain about free updates you never had when you bought the camera.
I don’t agree about the focus breathing comp. Focus breathing is pretty annoying especially on some of the recent GM lenses, the GM 35 1.4 was particularly bad in my experience. If you don’t want Focus breathing comp or don’t need it just turn it off. But I am definitely glad to have it on my fx3, zve1 and a7ciii.
The amount that FB comp crops in is based on the individual lens - some lenses crop more than others. In my experience pretty much all of the more recent G and GM lenses have some focus breathing. I guess if you have older lenses no need to turn it on. In any case it’s a good feature to have
This update changes native ISO settings when using PRORES RAW / Ninja V. It goes from 640/12800 to 80/1600. 😢 Even comparing a camera with older firmware, having the updated Sony A7s3 firmware 3.0 ISO80 was still brighter than older camera with older firmware at ISO640. Something is not right with this update. 🤔 Again this only effects external recorders such as Atomos Ninja V/V+, Ultra etc. There are also numerous other issues … go figure lol.

What’s worse is that the EVF on the a7s 3 is otherworldly phenomenal. If they just put that tech into the screen and added a couple millimeters to the screen it would and could be spectacular. They just simply won’t do it. Smh.
Honestly, i have the Sony A7C II - and even though people try to say its not a "professional" camera. I disagree. Its the same sensor as the A74 but with better optics and the newer AI chip with better auto focus, auto framing, etc. And of course, the ability to upload user LUTs. Ive been using them, and they work great on my camera and are fun to use! i love the A7C II - and i have the DJI Mic 2 when im filming for my church. If anyone has the DJI Mic 2, i HIGHLY HIGHLY reccomend getting the DJI Lavelier lapel mic they came out with! No joke, somehow the audio sounds even better! Like a lot better! More fuller sound and its cool you can rotate the mic 360° to get it to aim wherever you clip it. So yeah, pro tip, get the Lav mic for the DJI 2. Anyways Vu, dont worry brother, Sony will eventually give those updates when the A9 III has been out for the next 30 years

Focus breathing is not a bad thing but it surely is on the 35 and 50mm lenses (which means the breathing compensation option is worth it). Also, the timecode option is absolutely game-changing for some A7SIII users out there (me included).

Unfortunately I did the update and regret it. The text is so small for aperture, shutter speed, exposure and ISO. I rely on the exposure all the time to make sure I am overexposed by 1.7 in Slog3. If you haven’t done the update don’t!!

Vu, you are funny as hell, but you are speaking straight truth here!!! Vu, your thinking on your shoot was spot on, you must always be thinking about having audio covered for yourself. I can't tell you how many times that we were told it would be fine, but we instead had our Zoom F6, plugged into the mixing board, or some solution similar to what you did, which saved us from the douche bags that we were dealing with.
Long live VU-Diddy!!! I would have wanted custom Luts, Shutter Angle, and the ability to use hard drives, like the Panasonic. Cine EI isn't bad for what it is, which is what the A7SIII should have, but won't. I haven't upgraded from an A7SIII to a Fx3, because my business partner has one and we still use Blackmagic as well.

The A7S3 is a far more ideal camera for hybrid work compared to FX3. It’s not pumping out the resolution of an A7IV, but 12MP is more than enough for your average event photography work that most people won’t be able to discern.
The FX3 is a solid workhorse video camera, but if you do both stills and video, the FX3 is downright terrible for it. And while you jab your friends for sticking with the A7S3, I think the EVF makes for it a great case (on top of its stills capacity) to contend against the FX3 for video. And this update equalizes the disparity.
And god Vu, the same user lut argument, just for viewing on the same small FX3 screen that isn’t bigger or better than the A7S3? When you can load it into an external monitor? Common man.
At the end of the day, different strokes for different folks. I usually like your sarcastic critique, but this shit fest felt more on hating on your friends rather than being actually self aware and constructive.

I don’t agree about the focus breathing comp. Focus breathing is pretty annoying especially on some of the recent GM lenses, the GM 35 1.4 was particularly bad in my experience. If you don’t want Focus breathing comp or don’t need it just turn it off. But I am definitely glad to have it on my fx3, zve1 and a7ciii.

The amount of crop it has I don’t have it on. I just don’t buy lenses with bad breathing. I have 35mm 1.8
The amount that FB comp crops in is based on the individual lens - some lenses crop more than others. In my experience pretty much all of the more recent G and GM lenses have some focus breathing. I guess if you have older lenses no need to turn it on. In any case it’s a good feature to have

This update changes native ISO settings when using PRORES RAW / Ninja V. It goes from 640/12800 to 80/1600. 😢
Even comparing a camera with older firmware, having the updated Sony A7s3 firmware 3.0 ISO80 was still brighter than older camera with older firmware at ISO640.
Something is not right with this update. 🤔
Again this only effects external recorders such as Atomos Ninja V/V+, Ultra etc.
There are also numerous other issues … go figure lol.

The „hate“ for focus breathing comes from overpriced Sony GM prime lenses that breathe af. Re firmware: my „douchebag“ a1 still does not have features that every trash Sony entry level mirrorless has. But the good thing: as I have given up on Sony I haven‘t installed this travesty of a firmware update. So my totally-unsupported-flagship-brick still works.
I think the last firmware broke the focus and the new update fixed it back to 1.0
So pretty much this makes the zv1 one of the best in videos now lol

FX3 is a 1:1 readout so if you’re cropping in for focus breathing, you are already under sampling your video. I do NOT like this!!!
