Always regret letting go of a few locomotives in the past & one of those was a Class 37 by ViTrains I picked up in a Hattons bargain listing. It was the Direct Rail Services "compass" logo 37682. Beautiful looking detail for a knockdown price, I can only assume that I wanted to find a BR blue version to run instead and that this didn't really suit the era I was modelling. Now, I would've taken that into consideration but still broadened my scope a bit more. As it goes, I do have the BR Blue model 37131now though the colouring looks odd to me, with the blue shade seeming to have too much green in the mix & yellow is too lemon coloured. My other Vitrains 37 is the DB Schenker 37419 Ive lent to my dad & believe me, its surprisingly good. Both perform really well and are ideal for fitting an older Lima bodyshell over if you want to give your Lima a fresh lease of life on a more modern chassis. As you say, such a pity Vitrains have stopped now.
Vitrains locos really are worth the investment, especially if you want a semi decent loco for good value and you can’t afford Bachmann or accurascale. It would be good if they had produced a few more locos in the short time they were around but alas we’ve only got the 37 and 47. I’ll always recommend them for the right price.
I have a couple of Vitrains Railfreight 37's and they run pretty well, not expensive, I run Hornby 37 TTS chips on them and they sound good with a speaker upgrade. Also have a Bachmann (previous version) of the Class 37 which is very good. Not convinced the new Bachmann 37 is worth the money. Got an Accurascale 37 on order, will be interesting to see how it compares.
TTS sound is always worth the money in my opinion especially with a speaker upgrade. Sometimes you don’t always get what you pay for with the more expensive sound decoders. One of my old 8pin Bachmann class 37s is currently awaiting the arrival of a TTS decoder which will be used with an EM1 speaker in the fuel tanks and a sugarcube under the fan. The brand new Bachmann 37s do look fantastic and I will look at one at some point. I too have an accurascale one on order and hopefully it’ll be an absolute stunner
