While SAP _can_ detonate racks, I've found it to be much much easier with pure AP, and after some investigation it turns out that the fuse of SAP detonates early compared to APCBC (which travels a couple metres longer before detonating), making it so that even if it penetrates, it'll end up blowing up before it reaches the ammo racks. This doesn't happen with AP (longer post-pen travel) and it reaches the stowage without issue making big ship go kaboom. With the Scharnhorst, the Eugen, the Hipper and Spee, what you *should* be doing is carrying about 60:40 AP:SAP if you're going to be aggressive. AP goes for anything heavily armoured and for the love of GOD, aim for the ammo racks under the turrets. Do you know how many one-shots SAP has given me above 10km on start match? 0, fuse delay is to blame. APCBC? Around 3 in the span of a week of playing, which may not sound like a lot, but it excludes every one shot below 10KM and trust me, they're exponentially more frequent than SAP up until point blank. *ACTUAL AMMO GUIDE* for those who didn't buy the Prinz Eugen and wallet their way to top tier: *_Battleships:_* Avoid altogether. Don't shoot at them and hope they don't see you. It'll be hard killing eachother since you both are armoured but they've got better chances with 30.5+cm shells. In case you _have_ to engage, use Armour-Piercing, aim for the turrets (or just below to kill their loading tower) and pray. You are not going to go through the armour belt and coal bunkers unless you're point blank, so aim above at the turrets or slightly below at the loading towers, and pray. *_Heavy cruisers:_* Your bread and butter. Use Armour-Piercing *_above_* 3-4KM and aim *_below the turret_* for sweet, SWEET one shot ammo racks (thanks fuze delay). Below 3-4km SAP and AP are equally effective, I'd use SAP for extra TNT. Seriously, 9 shells every 20 seconds is too good to give up on a shell that doesn't even reach the ammo before blowing up. If you have any skill in this gamemode (i.e. you got to cruisers by grinding) you're past the "shoot till their crew dies" stage and into the "ammo rack" stage. *_Light cruisers:_* Counter-intuitively more challenging as their light armour isn't always enough to get the shell fuze to blow up on their ammo racks, kind of like "no armour best armour". Use APBCB Above 7-8KM, and below use SAP for maximum chances at ammo racking. *_Destroyers and below:_* SAP or HE. Your pick. PT boats hullbreak with either and SAP is good for ammoracking destroyers, but HE is good for crew kill spam too. Seriously. I get it maybe with the 2shot/m Spee, but with a gorgeous 27 shells per minute (as opposed to 12) you're throwing away the mathematically higher chances of scoring a hit on ammunition (if youre any good at aiming that is) by using SAP which detonates too early. This is why people shouldn't buy top tier ships. You miss the entire learning curve.
