Ironically, Escharum quickly managed to prop (the seemingly dead) Atriox into a false god of sorts, keeping the Banished united/motivated through the legacy of Atriox's cult of personality (which functionally makes Escharum a 'Prophet', even though he primarily claims to be a War Chief).
@@topnotchshinobi The key difference though is that Atriox rightfully earned that level of respect. His charisma, intelligence, cunning brutality, determination and motivated personality made him the leader. The Banished might over-exaggerate the legend of Atriox, but there is definitley some truth behind the story. The Prophets of the Covenant just like "See these cool stuff we have? Yeah, our gods left them for us. Now worship or die!" They just made a religion based around a misunderstanding.
@@WhyTho525 Completely valid comparison! :) Let's hope that 343 continues to fully realize Atriox's potential as a main antagonist of the Halo franchise's next phase!
@@topnotchshinobi Let's hope, although I think they are doing a good job so far with Atriox. Setting him up as this force of unstopabble nature that so far none has managed to truly defeat. I was very impressed with how they handled Escharum, if Atriox gets a similar if not better treatment, we might get one of the best, if not THE best antagonists of the Halo Franchise. I think Atriox could serve as the dark mirror to both Arbiter and Chief.
Atriox: As I suspected. Nothing but man. Marine: Red Team leader, this is Recon 1, you’ve got multiple hostiles approaching your location. Jerome: Alice. We’re leaving. Atriox: Yes. Run, little demons. Jerome: Command, this is Red Team, we have a Spartan casualty! Atriox: Hunt them down. Jerome: Immediate evac requested! Atriox: Find out where they came from. Jerome: Douglas, stay with me. Atriox: And bring me back anything... Jerome: DOUGLAS!! Atriox: ...Useful.
They’ve definitely come a long way from just being big angry space monkeys that like to punch things to now being a force that’s just as dangerous if not more dangerous than the covenant itself.

The Covenant fought for their false gods and the Prophets’ lies.
The Banished fight for themselves.
