On top of this: the cities of Leiden, Haarlem (which Harlem NY is named after), Hoorn, Alkmaar, Middelburg, Dordrecht, Breda, Den Bosch, Amersfoort, Zutphen, Deventer, Zwolle, Groningen and Leeuwarden are worth your visit as well. Plus, the smaller fortified towns like Enkhuizen, Oudewater, Schoonhoven, Brielle, Woudrichem, Gorinchem, Willemstad, Heusden, Zaltbommel, Leerdam, Culemborg, Buren, Naarden, Coevorden (which Vancouver is named after), and Bourtange are picturesquely beautiful.

The Netherlands is awesome. I am Norwegian and years ago I began studying in the US. I didn't really like it and had no idea what to do. I did not have a plan B. So I ended up in the Netherlands a bit by accident. Best choice in my life ever. I had such a great time. I lived in Utrecht for several years. Awesome student life there. I still often wonder if I made a mistake leaving the Netherlands and going home to Norway. Netherlands is often a forgotten country. It should be really high up on people's list of places to visit or study.
@@Puuws Hahaha well if you grown up a place it doesn't necessarily have the same magic. I love forests with leaves for instance and we don't have as much of that in Norway. I like lush green rolling hills. Norwegians landscapes is often much harsher and dramatic. I actually really love cultural landscapes of the Netherlands: Tulip fields with windmills and canals. But yeah... I can miss the mountains.
Of course there is always more to see. I would say Nijmegen, Den Bosch, Groningen (like xBrandNewHope already said), Haarlem, Deventer, and Amersfoort are also beautiful cities. If you like nature, the Wadden Islands (like Vlieland or Terschelling) are great, and also the Veluwe. If you like amusement parks, the Efteling is one of the best in Europe.
Think the Dutch work to live and the Americans live to work. That is a big difference. The place i miss in this list is Giethoorn, a small village with lots of waterways and small bridges. No roads, just people walking and most transportation is by boat.
Yes Giethoorn, 8 miles from my place, it's one of the most picturesque places. Get your ass out of all the cities Highly! Take your time and enjoy all the rest our country has to offer! 🍀
@@Tuinierenopstrobalen i will visit Giethoorn this saturday. Rent a boat and enjoy the big route. Sadly not enough time to go to Dwarsgracht and Geertien Muggebeet. I did spend all weekends and holidays in Giethoorn when is was young, that was before people from Asia discovered and took the place over. Very good memories.
A few places I feel really should've been on the list as well: - Groningen - Nijmegen - Den Bosch (or 's-Hertogenbosch) All three are worth googeling or looking up on RUclips! :)
So true. Maastricht was the only city outside Holland-Utrecht. Moreover, some named ones like Zaanse Schans and Kinderdijk are horrible tourist traps without a soul.
I am missing the ‘Deltawerken’ in this list. How we stopped the sea from flooding our country. Also nature parks like ‘de Hoge Veluwe’ and ‘de Peel’, just to name a few. Or the ‘Waddeneilanden’ such as Texel and Terschelling. This list is too much about cities… we have so much more than all these nice cities.
I do miss some more cities though, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Groningen are awesome too! And in my hometown Arnhem you can even find a lovely open air museum, and the Veluwe Park is in the neighbourhood. If you love nature then the Islands are worth the visit too (Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland, Schiermonikoog).
A place almost no people even in the Netherlands know about is the area between Drenthe en Friesland. The only place where are no highways, and the culture is not gone becouse of that. Small towns like Diever, Vledder, Norg, Dwingeloo en Rolde.
I think Groningen really deserved a place on this list, but i get it, its like 2/5 / 3 hours up north with the train from Amsterdam, but still its in my opinion totally worth it.
Maybe you should visit the "openlucht museum" it shows how people lived waaaaay back. You see the houses and the old professions. It's set up as a village, so outside. It's a shame the only show the bigger cities. So many small towns and beautiful nature. Look outside the tourist areas
Just read a number of comments and i agree with a number of them: I miss Haarlem, Breda, De Veluwe (national park), Den Bosch, Alkmaar and my personal favorite, Dordrecht (lots of history, beautiful buildings and the Biesbosch nature)
Amersfoort Nijkerker polder waar ik woon De veluwe sws . Kom daar best veel . Mij opa was jachtopziener schrijf niet goed . Heb deslexy dus altijd spelfouten haha . Putten Harderwijk
You like to ignore half of the Netherlands... too affraid to explore the other half of the Netherlands. That is okay, although very stupid. But I can not blame some one for beïng stupid, for beïng born somewhere. No consequences here, golddigger. You can live in your area, without problems. But do not come to the Northern part of the Netherlands... You are not welcome there! It takes several years for an asshole tot be accepted in the northern community. It is not hard, to be accepted... but for people like you... it will be hard. :W
I'm missing my own hometown of Deventer. The 5th oldest city in the Netherlands, founded in 758 AD. It has the olderst stone house of the Netherlands (1130), the Waag (1531, the oldest weighing house in the Netherlands), the Bergkerk (1209) and Lebuinuskerk (build between 1450 and 1525). Across the IJssel is the worpplantsoen (the oldest public walking area of the Netherlands) though that sounds more interesting than it is. In August it has, for two days, the largest open air book market of Europe, in July there is Deventer op Stelten and in December the Dickens Festival. There is more but these events and locations are the most prominent ones I could think of.
I live near Deventer, only a few miles from it. Between Zutphen and Deventer. Both beautiful old cities worth a visit. Deventer of course is also know for the fact the famous movie A Bridge Too Far was filmed there in the seventies.
Yes, a windmill can be used for a ton of different things, it's basically just an engine that powers whatever machine you need. And in relation to top 10 places, this video shows very touristy places, there's also enough to discover of the beaten track. When I am asked to recommend places I always first ask what their interests are, because reccomendations should be personalised
So happy to see my city (Delft) in this list. Love this city. Funny to see what people abroad appreciate (buildings, canals, architecture, etcetera) what is so normal for me...
Apart from Maasticht the list seems to be based on a stay of a few days only and all can be undertaken from.... Amsterdam🤭 Large parts of the country are not mentioned at all allthrough its always within a 2 hours drive...
The bridge what you see is from my home town Zierikzee, in the southwest, it's a 5.5km long bridge, and finish in the 60's, a long time it was the longest bridge of Europe, it called the Zeelandbrug, Zierikzee (my born town) is very beautiful to btw, when you visit one time Netherlands, visit then the southwest to, all the islands is so beautiful, i am living now in Spain, but i miss it really...
In zaanse schans Rembrandt bought his paint for his paintings in one of those windmills....and yess the windmills dont only shift water....but make flour...mustered...cutting wood....and alot more!
2:42 Syrup waffel or Caramel waffel is the closest English translation of Stroopwafels, not actual waffles with syrup on top. You've probably heard of those before
Thank you for translating this so that I can understand what the equivalent would be. I truly appreciate that. Thank you for enjoying the video. Much love to you as always.
@@HighlyCombustibleReacts Syrup has two Dutch words: siroop when liquid, and stroop when it is thick. Next to stroopwafels there is Appelstroop, thick syrup made from apples for on toast or bread. Yummy.

Best place in the Netherlands is the Efteling and no one can change my mind!!!! The beautiful creations from Anton Pieck, the nature, the attractions, the fairytales, broodje unox, the music. I love it. Can't wait for the winter Efteling :)
Syrup waffles is what you eat at breakfast. We have “stroopwafels” and when you littarlly translate it’s syrupwaffels but it is totally something different from the breakfast food as you know it. There is no accurate translation, it falls under the food type cookie.
Live in Schiedam, work in Delft. I would put Delft ahead of Amsterdam. I always recommend Maastricht for people visiting and they just skip it. De keukenhof and the tulip fields never disappoint. Middelburg in Zeeland is nice, as well as Breda and I like Eindhoven for its atmosphere. Nijmegen is the oldest city in the Netherlands, I really like it there too. I have never been to Drenthe in my 20 years here or de waddeneilanden. Last year went to Medemblik in North Holland, a very nice surprise!
Friesland. Brabant. Nijmegen. Loosdrecht. Giethoorn. Den Bosch. Zeeland. Harlem, etc. There is so much to see. People always think that the Netherlands is only Amsterdam and or Rotterdam. But there is so much to see. Culture, nature, lakes, canals, sea, from North to South, there is so much to experience. Submerge yourself in the fusions of cultures, history, color, music, scents, tastes. Friesland is called the Venice of the North. Travel with one of the Lemsteraak boats or a plaat bodem boat. Go and watch or ride a fries paard(frisian horses), some of the most beautiful horses in the world. International cuisine (more than 100 different nationalities), all living in perfect harmony in our wonderful country. Go to Scheveningen. Wonderful sea. Wonderful fish /sea food. Great Thai restaurant, quite famous. Ow I am the one without electricity. That's all for now. Love, blessings and light to everybody. 💙🥰
all city's are worth visiting, i think they forgot some city's like Leiden, Nijmegen, Arnhem, S'Hertogenbosch, Vlissingen, Groningen. maybe you can find video's of these beautifull city's to on YT.
This is exactly the list I wanted to give. So I just like your reaction. 😀. The video was really nice but a little “Holland-heavy” . There is so much to see in other parts of the Netherlands.
Citytrips are the most popular tourist destinations and indeed places to visit, but the Netherland offers so much more beautiful locations that might be worth more to be explored. For example our great number of nature reserves and landscapes like the Veluwe, the Biesbosch, Waddeneilanden and the Friese Meren. Let's not forget the many historic villages and miles of waterways across the country. I hope you will have the opportunity to discover the Netherlands from the water one day.
I really think Nijmegen should be in this list. It's the oldest city in the Netherlands, more than 2000 years old: from the Roman age to Charlemagne and from the 80 years of war against Spain to World War 2. It has one of the most beautiful churches, and it lies beautifully on the river the Waal. And it's ofcourse world famous for the Walk of the World: de Nijmeegse 4days marches
They’re the ten most popular tourist destinations for sure. Besides what the guys already mentioned, I’d add that my favourites are places that aren’t really much fun for tourists: pretty but there’s nothing to do. Top of the list are the dunes at the coastline. You can wander for hours. And when there’s no one around, you can fool your eyes with scale and see mountains
I missed Haarlem !! And a few of our many beaches. The "Wadden eilanden" . There is so much more to see. We have draw bridges everywhere. Best excuse in the Netherlands when you are late is to say.. The bridge was open.. 😉 For boats with more than 9hp( I think) you need a license. I have a boat with 5hp so I can just go. My son has 2 boats, 1 with 75hp and a big sail boat. He has all the licenses you can get. The syrup waffles they mentioned are "stroopwafels". You should come to the Netherlands Paul /HXC. You will love it here. Even better, just move to the Netherlands. The Dutch people watching your channel will help you and show you around. Much love love from the Netherlands xx
@@patp8526 ja vind ik ook. ze zouden er een tweede bij moeten bouwen. zodat er voor beide richtingen 2 rijstroken zijn, aangezien hij nogal zwaar word belast
Not mentioned is the city of Schiedam, once Genever capital of the world and tourists can still come and brew it the old way and taste. Also having the 5 biggest windmills on earth (still working too) and many old churches and buildings. There is also a chocolade factory, called De bonte koe, for tourists. I didn't even mention all the nature it has, compared to Rotterdam for example. Closeby is the city of Vlaardingen which is also worth a visit
I think all of the places on the list were really great. I do want to give a little honourable mention to my home town of Leeuwarden! Leeuwarden was the Cultural Capitol of Europe in 2018 and I would say definitely worth a visit. I sometimes serve as a guide on a tour through the canals, you are more than welcome to join us for a tour sometime :). Love your content, keep up the good work sir.
kinderdijk is my backyard, it used to have more windmills but some burned down. they build a few back but not all. kinderdijk also was the first place in the netherlands with an electricity power grid, this one was powered by steam. it was first started in 1886. the maker went to amerika to look at the power grid Thomas Edison made. They not only powered factories but also homes.
The long island that were shown at the start are located in Vinkeveen. I just returned from a 2 week vacation in a cabin on one of the 'legakkers' (islands). Cleanest water of the Netherlands, swimming, canoeing, supping every day. I spent holidays in my youth there. Working on buying a legakker soon. My next life goal is becoming a recluse in Vinkeveen. Btw: the history of vinkeveen is also intriguing.. there must be clips about that. 😏
The pronunciation of”Zaanse Schans” in this video sounds more French than Dutch 😉 And that castle near Utrecht you saw, is actually not that “real”. It’s only 130 years old and is actually a rebuilt castle. The style is actually quite eclectic, having both real medieval and neogothic elements. A pretty cool castle nonetheless. 😁
Each windmill has its own purpose (sawing wood, crushing grains for flower, pumping water, crushing nuts or w/e for oil...) can't change it easy from one to another. Small boats don't require a license unless the motor is above a certain power. Tho a lot of ppl don't know the rules (all motorized boats under 20 meter long MUST give way for ANY sailboats, and must adhere to the right side of a canal to not hinder other boats, there are a few exceptions on some not too wide canal's where commercial traffic is important enough to warrant that ALL boats must be under power)
That are 10 great cities, but i think its interesting not only visiting only cities. There are a lot of interesting places: deltawerken, Batavia replica, wadden islands, Veluwe, Biesbosch, Utrechtse heuvelrug, Giethoorn, Volendam, Zutphen, Elburg, Norg, Amersfoort, Broek op Langedijk, Loosdrechtse plassen, north Groningen, the city Groningen, Nieuweschans, the small 11 city's in Friesland, Amsterdamse Waterleidingduinen, ... About the boat license, a license is only needed for boats from 10hp, so you see in old cities with a lot of canals (Amsterdam, Utrecht, ...) a lot of boats with max 9.9hp
It's a pity that the north of the Netherlands never mentioned. For example fryslan and the wadden islands.( UNESCO HERITAGE) They are beautiful too. Beautiful nature, lakes, old towns and an own language and traditions. You have to check it out sometime.
I realy miss some city's like, Groningen, den Bosch, Nijmegen and arhnem. So i don't realy Think that this is all in the video. As a citizen of Groningen myself i Could recomend the city center and if you like museum than you should visit groningen museum wich is next to the central station and its only a 5 to 10 minute walk yo the center. Btw the central station is also a lovely building!
2025 Sail.. then the largest sailships are in Amsterdam! Zaanse Schans is close to Amsterdam. And between the airport and Amsterdam city itself is the Windmill that i work as tourguide, it is even the only working windmill of Amsterdam. It is exactly on the last meters of Amsterdam.. there is a bridge and over the bridge it is Badhoevedorp. And Badhoevedorp is the part where Schiphol airport is. (Allthough they say Amsterdam) Edit.. in The Hague (Scheveningen) you can also close to the ferris wheel do a bungy jump, from that tower that you saw!
Look at Jovi's home she is a expat and give a lot of tips and she made a tour trough the Netherlands. BTW when she talking about wafels she is talking about stroopwafels 😉
4.07 The Erasmus bridge in Rotterdam aka The Swan. Behind it is the Northern Island. My brother lived there for a while when he was a student. We were born in Rotterdam. None of us live there anymore though.
I would recomment Giethoorn. You can rent your own boat, very nice. Themepark De Efteling, the coastline of North Holland like de Hondsbossche zeewering and our dunes, wadden islands, Valkenburg, Den Bosch and don't forget our delta works, Hunnebedden (dolmens?) in Drente and De Veluwe 😊
Every morning I ride on my bike through the Zaanse Schans . Early in the morning when mist is over the land and the sun is coming up and no tourist's it is like a fairytale. Fore boats you need a licence when it is longer then 15 m , wider than 4 and faster than 20 km/h And we don't like stupid overpowered speedboats with a lot of noise , we glide gently in style over the canal's in a sloep (longboat)
Actually the Venice of the north is Giethoorn, you saw it on a previous reaction you did. In that video it was said this village has no roads, only canals.
I'll respond to your responses (a bit late but there we are). Windmills you will see, in cities and villages and for all kinds of purposes. Yes, a multi-purpose tool because the windmill is just the power source, it has all kinds of gears. You'll like them. I was in Texas trying to buy some gouda cheese and the supermarket stock boy 'corrected' me when I pronounced it right. Cathedral/church wise you need to go to Haarlem too. Never seen any of those self-surfing boards either. Ok, so the clogs now are (mostly) a tourist thing but I grew up in the countryside of Brabant and people used to wear clogs (alongside rubber boots). My dad always wore them for gardening (very good if you want to get a spade in the ground and you can't cut your toes off with same spade either). Imy and my brothers got small clogs as kids. You could even run in them. The Hague's not a coastal city, that part was Scheveningen. Although Wikipedia now tels me it's part of The Hague. Sometimes smaller towns get swallowed. Oh. At 15.22 you see Swapfiets on a bike frame. This is a fairly recent thing and especially popular in student towns. You can lease bicycles and when they break down they'll replace the broken parts. Yeah, I think you do need a boat-license.
Yes. Gouda! I live about a 20 to 30 minutes drive from it and even had my employer there about 10 years ago. My wife still works there. It is really a beautful city center. Oh, the syrup waffles, those are teh 'stroopwafels', something totally different from American waffles. And yes, Rotterdam is about 10 km from my place, I work there now. Easy public transport by metro, bus and tram. The center is really good and modern! Maastricht: a beautiful city! We've been there, and it impressed us. O, Kinderdijk: 5 minutes from where I live. But we have to cross a river by a ferry (just from one side to the other) or drive 30 to 45 minutes to reach the same place... But, it is history!! The Hague! I was born there in Scheveningen at the coast (that us what is shown at the beginning of 'The Hague'). I've seen that peer being build! (oops, am I that old...) But The Hague is a beautiful green city! Delft: nearby, 25 minutes by car, so we visit there often. Good shopping in the original center. And, famous too! Tulips: ok... I like the flowers, I've seen the fields from a distance. No way to go visit them, too much tourists 🤣 Amsterdam: no way, nice city, famous aropund the world, but as a born in The Hague... I only visit Amsterdam on a purpose: concert, event, work or what else there is I need togo there. As the Dutch say: 'I don't want to be found there dead.' Oke, just making a joke. And about the Netherlands: we have room for a few more....
If you do visit the Netherlands, I'd recommend choosing a place to stay and really take your time there. Dont rush all the places you want to see, and aimlessly stroll around that place. And if you do get bored of the place at some point, almost any other city in the Netherlands can be reached within 2,5 hours by public transport.
I miss the largest cheesemarket from the Netherlands in Alkmaar, the windmill museum in Schermerhorn, nature reserve Eilandspolder, the Zuiderzee museum in Enkhuizen, and the 'boemeltrein' from Hoorn. If you ever come over to visit, i will be happy to help and show you all the beautiful places in North Holland besides Amsterdam ;)
I'd also recommend pretty much any place in Friesland, but I'd probably put places like Sneek and Hindeloopen at the top, at least for a day trip. Also Giethoorn and the Wadden Eilanden, but those have already been named.
We really don't expect foreigners to pronounce things correctly. She did a good job with her first Gouda and then lost the plot, haha. Amsterdam is a tourist trap, but if you just go biking or walking outside of the main tourist streets it's very pretty in places. I used to study there for a while but you just don't go to those main busy streets with bad tourist shops. They also have bad restaurants with people outside actually calling to people to come in, which is very undutch. The issue with catering to tourists is that they don't care if you come back so it's probably not good in those. I think tourists should go to The Efteling, one of the very best amusement parks in the world a old dutch illustrator was a large part of it's design and it looks so much better than other parks. It's a fairytale park but also with rides.
@@arturobianco848 Yeah they have limited space so you will not get 50 of the fastest highest rollercoasters in there but the ones they do have with stories and design seem to rate very highly with the fans of rollercoasters who travel to go on them. Being used to The Efteling I find Disney so fake looking, like everything is made of styrofoam and I'd hate spending hours waiting. I've always gone to Efteling when it's not that busy and you usually could go straight through to rides. Which is half the fun.
@@Iflie Not been to other disney parcs then the ones in Paris. Lets just say i Prefer going to the efteling, the darkrides are amazing there the atmosfeer truly magical (go suck on that disney). the coasters arn't bad and except for the vecoma looper spectacularly well themed. It just that a parc that wonderfull should have at least one or two really great, more extreme rides. Something like Taron would be a wonderfull addition to the parc not to extreme no inversions but world class. Its the only catogry the parc is not top of the world class in but just decent. I heard the where going to expand the parc so they might even have room to fit something like that in.
@@arturobianco848 Maybe but I think they are trying to focus on on their strengths which are fairytale rides. That last one was hugely expensive with the trackless ride and somewhat boring from all the videos I've seen. They could certainly expand on that tech. And hopefully keep any new areas just as pretty as the rest of the park.
@@Iflie They should defintly do nothing to undermine that Strength I just can't see what more they can do in the fairytale forest unless they expand there. Also think that it isn't really neccesary i've been in over 60 parcs in Europe and none come even close in the fairytale department. All this talking about Efteling just made me decide i defintly have to visit again next year haven't seen max und moritz yet.
If you are a nature guy, I would definitely add places like the Veluwe, the Betuwe and the Biesbosch to your list. The Veluwe is rough terrain, with grasses, heather, woodlands and shrubs and is home to stags, boars and original wild cows and bulls. The Betuwe is rich farmland, full of fruit trees. And the Biesbosch is a large national park containing several different areas of freshwater tidal wetlands, making it home to whole host of different animals, including fish, birds, deer, foxes and beavers. In terms of ancient cities to visit, I would add Nijmegen to complete the old Roman borderline -- from the bridge over the Rhine (Traiectum, now Utrecht) through the new market town (Noviomagus, Nijmegen) to the bridge over the Muse (Traiectum ad Mosam, Maastricht). Finally, I'd like to make a case for a dark horse in the bunch: Eindhoven. Or the metropolitan region of Eindhoven, if you want to spend a few days. Eindhoven is not the place to go to see ancient buildings and medieval architecture. Although Eindhoven is quite old as cities go (city rights in 1232), it was really very small for most of its existence and what historical parts were left were mostly bombed during WWII. Quite the opposite, Eindhoven is the place you go to see modern stuff. Eindhoven is home to a surprising number of monumental buildings (mostly 19th century) dotted throughout the city; but mostly Eindhoven is full of open air art and green, modern architecture and industrial heritage. Also, Eindhoven is home to the DAF museum (cars) and the Van Abbemuseum, which is a really good modern art museum. So Eindhoven is a really good place to walk around and look at things for a day. And if you want to spend two or three days, the metro region includes Nuenen (which has a lot of stuff relating to Van Gogh, who lived there for a while), Helmond (architecture and automobiles), Asten (which has a bell foundry which made several world-famous bells and a bell museum) and several other small museums, picturesque villages and good opportunities for bike rides around the region.
Awesome to see my hometown of Gouda is there. The syrup waffles are a big round sort of cookie with caramel in between. The original ones come from this town. The best and freshest ones you will get. If you ever visit here, let me know and I'll show you around. You or whomever reads this.
Kinderdijk is great but even beter in winter. I skated there 10 years ago. Kinderdijk is then one of the many stamping places for a 75 km long iceskating tour through the polder. Gorinchem is also a beautiful city to visit. 2021 proclaimed the most beautiful fortified city in the Netherlands.
When you come to the netherlands you have to go to Vlissingen in Zeeland. We have a Shipswarf where we make superyachts. It's also the birthplace of Michiel de Ruyter.
Those are just go see cities tips. If you want fun stuff as tourist Madurodam (miniatures cities with trains and much cool stuff) Argeon (medieval/roman museum-village) Efteling (fairytale themepark) And many other zoo's, themeparks, and cool museums
I love Maastricht! It kinda feels like you're in another country to people like me (from the Holland side of the country). I've had many vacations there.
Windmills are basicly wind powered engines. Like how the steam engines where used in an industrial sector in the industrial era. The rotational movement can be used to turn a stone but also converted to say an up and down movement to power a saw. There is many more i am sure 😃 i love your'e tour trough our little big country and am even learning some stuff along the way😅 thanks and keep up that awesome positive fibe 👍🏻👊🏻
If you go to the Zaanse Schans which is located in Zaandijk, I can recommend going to Zaandam city center aswell. It's basically next to each other. In Zaandam they honor the old style as you can see in de Zaanse schans but gave it a modern twist. You can lookup Intell hotel Amsterdam Zaandam for our cool architecture 😀
Don't forgets other places for example; Dordrecht, Middelburg, Den Bosch, Oudewater, De Weerribben, Giethoorn, Ootmarsum and many other beautiful things from the Netherlands

Your best bet as a tourist is to rent a car. When you are in Amsterdam it only takes about 3 hours to drive to any other part of the Netherlands. However, do your homework to find the places you want to visit. Or just get in and drive to wherever. There is always a fun place nearby with some fun activities to discover.

Think the Dutch work to live and the Americans live to work. That is a big difference. The place i miss in this list is Giethoorn, a small village with lots of waterways and small bridges. No roads, just people walking and most transportation is by boat.
And the true Venice of the North, not Amsterdam...
@@Tuinierenopstrobalen Then we must be neighbours..
Giethoorn is so beautiful but quite crowded with tourists during the summer. My husband and I would go on the off-season....much more relaxing!
A few places I feel really should've been on the list as well:
- Groningen
- Nijmegen
- Den Bosch (or 's-Hertogenbosch)
All three are worth googeling or looking up on RUclips! :)
So true. Maastricht was the only city outside Holland-Utrecht. Moreover, some named ones like Zaanse Schans and Kinderdijk are horrible tourist traps without a soul.
Maastricht, Middelburg en wat dachten we van de hunnebedden
And Hoorn!
Bergen op zoom is ook mooi.
Amersfoort
I am missing the ‘Deltawerken’ in this list. How we stopped the sea from flooding our country. Also nature parks like ‘de Hoge Veluwe’ and ‘de Peel’, just to name a few. Or the ‘Waddeneilanden’ such as Texel and Terschelling. This list is too much about cities… we have so much more than all these nice cities.
Agree with all great summery
Too much to fit into a 15 minute video, Patrick.
Way too much.
the deltaworks is not a place/town/village/city but a construction, in another video, they do encounter it)
I do miss some more cities though, Arnhem, Nijmegen, Groningen are awesome too! And in my hometown Arnhem you can even find a lovely open air museum, and the Veluwe Park is in the neighbourhood. If you love nature then the Islands are worth the visit too (Texel, Vlieland, Terschelling, Ameland, Schiermonikoog).
I AM missing the wadden Eilanden, Groningen, Giethoorn.
+ s'Hertogenbosch & Nijmegen.
+Middelburg & Breda

I think Groningen really deserved a place on this list, but i get it, its like 2/5 / 3 hours up north with the train from Amsterdam, but still its in my opinion totally worth it.
Yeah, i missed Groningen!💗
For many people outside Holland, a three hour drive is peanuts!
Maybe you should visit the "openlucht museum" it shows how people lived waaaaay back. You see the houses and the old professions. It's set up as a village, so outside.
It's a shame the only show the bigger cities. So many small towns and beautiful nature. Look outside the tourist areas

But I can not blame some one for beïng stupid, for beïng born somewhere. No consequences here, golddigger. You can live in your area, without problems.
@@marcusfranconium3392 I didn't say it's the oldest. I said that it's the 5th oldest city.

Yes, a windmill can be used for a ton of different things, it's basically just an engine that powers whatever machine you need.

Yup Delluf the place to be once in your life
I see Delft so It's my duty to say Yeeh! Delluf!!

4:30 the windows you see are from apartmens that are located in the arch.
2:05 That's the bridge visitors that refuse to eat herring, have to take
They’re the ten most popular tourist destinations for sure.
Nijmegen should definitely be on your list, it’s the oldest city in The Netherlands with an amazing history!
Maastricht and Heerlen are older.

Also having the 5 biggest windmills on earth (still working too) and many old churches and buildings. There is also a chocolade factory, called De bonte koe, for tourists.

kinderdijk is my backyard, it used to have more windmills but some burned down. they build a few back but not all. kinderdijk also was the first place in the netherlands with an electricity power grid, this one was powered by steam. it was first started in 1886. the maker went to amerika to look at the power grid Thomas Edison made.
I bet you can make a top 50 video with ease and still miss things and places

I would recomment Giethoorn. You can rent your own boat, very nice. Themepark De Efteling, the coastline of North Holland like de Hondsbossche zeewering and our dunes, wadden islands, Valkenburg, Den Bosch and don't forget our delta works, Hunnebedden (dolmens?) in Drente and De Veluwe 😊
also intresting to now is that the shipsbuilding was so good because they use the windmill to cut timber
Every morning I ride on my bike through the Zaanse Schans .
Early in the morning when mist is over the land and the sun is coming up and no tourist's it is like a fairytale.
Fore boats you need a licence when it is longer then 15 m , wider than 4 and faster than 20 km/h
And we don't like stupid overpowered speedboats with a lot of noise , we glide gently in style over the canal's in a sloep (longboat)
Actually the Venice of the north is Giethoorn, you saw it on a previous reaction you did.
In that video it was said this village has no roads, only canals.
syrup waffels are "stroop wafels" and it is basically a thin waffle cut in have and the syrup is put in between and it is delicious

Yeah, I think you do need a boat-license.
that 'bridge to nowhere' is actually the Afsluitdijk that connects Northern Holland to Friesland.
Yes.
No way to go visit them, too much tourists 🤣
Amsterdam: no way, nice city, famous aropund the world, but as a born in The Hague...
It's a fairytale park but also with rides.
totally agree Efteling is one of the most beautiful themeparcs i have ever seen. Maybe not the most exciting but defitnily beautiful.

Those are just go see cities tips.
If you want fun stuff as tourist
Madurodam (miniatures cities with trains and much cool stuff)
Argeon (medieval/roman museum-village)
Efteling (fairytale themepark)
And many other zoo's, themeparks, and cool museums
I missed Zierikzee, Middelburg and the Delta works
I love Maastricht! It kinda feels like you're in another country to people like me (from the Holland side of the country). I've had many vacations there.
I also found a video on Maastricht in English :D

You know what they say: As finishing touch..God created the Dutch!
Sorry, I'm still missing so much other city's then only in the erea of north/south Holland.. We only saw Maastricht in the total south, but I miss, ofc s-Hertogenbosch!, Texel, Nijmegen, Scheveningen en natuurlijk Efteling ❤️
Ohhh Texel!❤
My dad has a little ship. And he is proud of it. When you are in the Netherlands again i can call him and see if we can do a little tour around the area where he lives. Maybe. It's not a big boat.
syrup means stroop you may know them as stroopwafels. other places i miss here are the highest point of nederkand becayse we do have mountauns, Bieschbos, Alkmaar which has a historical heritage, arnhem and groningen but akso wadlopen in the waddenzee, giethoorn, zaandam, middelburg, madurodam and still there is more
Your best bet as a tourist is to rent a car. When you are in Amsterdam it only takes about 3 hours to drive to any other part of the Netherlands.
However, do your homework to find the places you want to visit. Or just get in and drive to wherever. There is always a fun place nearby with some fun activities to discover.
I visited Kinderdijk for the first time last month, it was lovely and not too many tourists at the moment.
The so called syrup waffels are the world famous "Stroopwafels", you definately should try some.
