We’re impressed with the performance capability of the new turbo Civic. Straight from the showroom floor, this iteration of the Civic easily beats all previous generations making it even more rewarding to modify
Love seeing the progress and attention the new civics are getting!
Not really progress, it makes less power than a stock D series with a turbo around this size lmao
Jimster480 fuel efficiency bro
mehftv but they aren't more efficient than the D16/d15 cars of 20 years ago....
Jimster480 but it has more power, weighs more, and has more features than 20 years ago. Don't try comparing it.
The features suck, the transmissions are worse, the suspensions are horrible and the cars are fat tanks that ride like ass.
You are right there is no comparison, Honda in 2017 = trash
It is absolutely astonishing how great Hondata tunes have been and has always been.
Back in my days a 95 Civic Ex with 127hp was really something. Now Civic gets a turbo at 200 plus hp? Dam I'm old
Finally a video that’s not about the Si or the Type R. Well done.
Yes Honda made one hell of an engine. I’m glad I own one and have many years to tweak it.
I want to put AK20C in my 2017 EXT. I would get all of the features and the speed!
Anything that is not a SI or a Type R is pointless!! Waste of money and time!
Javier showed up at IFO Bakersfield with the CVT 1.5 Turbo Civic Touring model and was clicking of Mid 14's all day with just the Hondata flash. Nice work!
stock tires and suspension?
Anthony Thomas yes!
I'm a complete car noob but i'm interested in what you're saying. So with just the hondata flash, this guy in the civic touring did WHAT? :|
Magnum we all start somewhere man. No need to be a dick.
rockin' a hondata reflash in my '03 ep3!
Great results! I really wish Honda had added actual VTEC to this engine. It really would distinguish the civic from the turbo crowd. They had the opportunity to do it with the Si, but neglected that. It really is a shame. Pretty much now a days, you can pick up any turbo cars and get tremandous amount of power gain for just a simple bolts on and reflash. #turbo
Crazy how engines have changed. This 1.5 makes just about the same as my 2000 accord with the j30a1
Peak power lower than peak torque on last run..screaming for a bigger down pipe and exhaust IMO....
hondatrix I think Honda did some crazy design with this turbo setup and it's actually part of the intake manifold or some shit. I don't know if there's a way to go bigger due to this or else they probably would've. or there just isn't any aftermarket support yet
+Jeff Grigos it's actually part of the exhaust " manifold " / downpipe and has a plastic inlet tube running to it. This is very common for loads of manufacturers., and simple machining of the compressor or turbine housings can be done to allow volume increase, or simple changes to the number of blades per impeller could also be done, as was done years ago in F1 for different altitudes and tracks.
But is in the integrated exhaust manifold style found in the 9th gen Civic SI, the one that is practically cast into the engine block?
Cast as part of the cylinder head, yes. Done to cut costs, reduce parts count, decrease cat warm up time and also to make the engine slightly more compact.
hondatrix PRL Motorsports sells them.
keep in mind its a 1.5
This was a great video. Gives people an idea of what to expect before pouring money into the car. Love it. 👍🏼
Hoping the new Civic trans and internals can hold up to these nice mods
Wow! Im surprised it made 217whp with not that many mods! My '13 V6 Camaro is close to 300whp with full bolt ons and E85. This made 80hp less, but is 1000lbs lighter! These turbocharged cars are getting nice nowadays.
rozario orlan so with the civic being lighter and only 80hp slower, would it be faster than the camaro?
Alliid Mozahre wouldn't say it would be faster, but still would probably keep up pretty well. still would be a quick and fun car either way
So why does so much ppl hate honda, if they can make a car that can keep up with muscle cars or bigger engines? And isn't a cheaper car to build or mod
its not WHP, its HP
rozario orlan it's not that surprising to me..I have owned a Renault 5 GT turbo in the 90s..that was tuned not massively either and was pushing 190 bhp..that was 1.3. carburettor !.
Need to put a free flowing exhaust on it. Should be the first mod on any turbo car.
well that was quick. my friend was bitching about the civic si being a 1.5t instead of the 2.0t like the type r and I told him it will be modified soon enough.
Great video! But yall really should have put on at least a 3 inch exhaust. Im sure it would have made way more power in the end.
Si is going to have same block and specs but gets a higher output turbo (fin change on spool allowing high volume of efficiency in same size package) and different profile cams to aid in the higher efficiency. We are looking at the 1.5L turbo Si engine maxing some where around 250ish with around 260 ft lb. of torque at the wheels. can't wait to see this happen soon.
Phar2Rekliss yes they just made si power or better
I bet prl intake is better
Just got a 2017 hatch last November. Been looking in what parts go with the vehicle, thanks a lot!
Dusty Kenney hey what have you done to your hatch so far?
You need a bigger exhaust. Why put more breathing up front but no way to get that extra air out if you didn't add a bigger free flowing exhaust.
man what a civic, it will be another 15 years before I can afford one...
thats the current state of the auto market as a whole
237lb/ft = 320 Nm , that is crazy for 1.5 f/i petrol, I remember 25 years ago this was turbodiesel territory
VitViper pushed this car further stock to 240whp and 280wtq on KTuner to the limits of the stock clutch .
That's great output for the 1.5 engine.
It is always enjoyable when various tuners try their ways. To increase Boost +7psi for 25hp / 38lb/ft is not close to optimum. When you are not gaining 10hp per +psi then (with what was added here) it is related to the turbo unable to keep up with demand + fueling or backpressure and more than likely ALL three. If you use 102.5 Oct Race Fuel and aren't gaining anything even adding +2psi, why? Simply put, a drop in high flow air filter in the box, intercooler upgrade, and a tune will NET much safer results w/o having to raise the boost to those levels (on the stock turbo of course). You really don't want to mess with the DP with the stock turbo - it's far too small.
big honda fan, but i hate the direction honda is going...small displacement motors with a baby turbo...i want to see 2.0 or 2.4 liter high reving agressive NA setups..just give us the rsx and s2k back!!
dannyb20 vtec emissions n fuel consumption rules kill us :(
joanes bryan Well what we emit will literally kill us
ive been waitn on a k24 turbo 2.4l
dannyb20 vtec I know I wasn't the only one! could you imagine if they just turboed the k24 in the 9th gen si
dannyb20 vtec isn't the Type R arriving soon? There is you K20s
Interesting. Good results, but is it me? Or did the exhaust get louder after the intercooler install portion of the video? It really sounds like a DP pipe was added? Or am I crazy?
Ian Peterson yup I noticed car got louder as well
there's even a file that says downpipe lol.
I saw that part and backed up like when was a do or exhaust added haha
Just glad to see that you can mod hondas again :)
I hope I understood this right and the first step was just remapping without any hardware adjustment and it boosted the engine by 20 horsepower? It seems like more than enough in most daily scenarios provided limited engine changes. Of course, you can do more but they point out that the stock clutch might not take more torque. I would like to know if this mapping exercise would be safe for a CVT transmission. I remember Hodata's clip on the damage they made to the CVT trasmission when they passed too much torque through it.
A basic tune from Hondata is +6 PSI, ktuner equivilant is eco / 21PSI IF I’m not mistaken..
Personally on my 2017 Hatchback (manual) I just got myself the KTuner V2. Not only does the car have so much more hp for the price of the ktuner, it made it like a whole new car. So much more responsive on the throttle, no more idiotic rev hang, more torque, basically the same as hondata but much more customizeable as well as easier to flash and everything since I don’t need a laptop to do it.
The only problem with either tune? Once you do an intake and front+downpipe, nevermind the exhaust, the clutch will not be able to handle it and will slip, which is why you will see videos of other people changing out the stock clutch to an FX300/FX350
I’m fine with just the tune and no other mods though.
Why did I wait a full year and a half before tuning? Simple answer was I wanted to see if anyone was ending up with major mechanical issues that warranty will obviously not cover. With all of these base tunes no one has really had any major problems that i can think off, just don’t mess with stuff when you don’t know what you are doing. It is a very very good modification and I would be more than happy with keeping this as my only mod (the second I felt the power difference I wanted to mod everything, but am thinking I may not now and will just work on paying the car off faster)
This is why I’m buying a 2017 Si over my 15 Si. Cause we tuned one the other day to 60 FUCKING HORSE POWER JUST WITH HONDATA ON AN ALL STOCK CAR
Imagine the numbers these guys will be able to pull out from the type R engine.
I think that turbo is reaching its limits. Throw on a slightly bigger turbo and I'm sure it'll put out some more power with a lower PSI.
next step should be a 3'' exhaust !
if in my b18 made some power over a 2'' exhaust
in a 2017 turbo will make wonders !
Vtecing true true! My larger 2 3/8 exhaust with straight muffler has done wonders!
I went from a 2005 10,000lb 6.0L power stroke 4x4, to a 2017 2door 1.5 L and man this car is slow, very late on the take off, will not throw you back in the seat, has no sound from the exhaust, but driving at 65 mph you will most definitely get 45mpg.
You have a good point.
Annnnnnd the results been great!!
Yo wtf my Si doesn't even go past 16 psi let alone touch the advertised 20.3 psi. Why not??!
What's the difference between this engine (L15B7) and Honda vezel (aka HRV) engine L15B1 ? are they essentially the same ?
I was wondering if it was possible to share a custom dyno tune if possible. I have a 2017 Civic hatchback sport with CAI and turbocharge pipe and high performance spark plugs. I purchased honda pro but my car has idling problems after flash and all sensors keep lighting up.
The turbo is actually a little smaller than that, it’s actually a td025
@dsports hey does anyone know how much does everything come out to $$$ thanks
that turbo inlet looks like it could definitely be made better in the afternarket.
im new to honda tubro. do you need to tune if you add intake or exhaust or what ever.? i know for subaru cars you have to tune if adding these parts other wise the engine can get damaged.
omg, the stocl boost is at 18.55 psi?! that crazy high. but cool, now it needs an exhuast and down pipe
How much power can you squeeze out of that 1.5???????
If you ad VTEC stickers and the giant HONDA sticker on the windshield, about 1,500 HP. About 1 HP per CC.
Why no exhaust?? Free flowing exhaust should be the first mod on any turbo car.
not on these small turbo cars, for instance a stock turbo fiesta st will see little to NO gain with a turbo back as the stock turbo is the bottle neck of the whole system, intake adds nothing but noise as well. Now upgrade the turbo and that another story
Rsaxon1979 you right my friend
keep adding boost to that stock block
Do they make a 93 octane tune for the people in Texas that have 93 at the pump at the end of the mods made I would say that it makes good power for what it is next stop downpipe and then go along with the rest of the exhaust system for better flow but like the guy in the video said the turbo is about maxed out so bigger turbo as well and clutch do all that and I would be very interested to see not only what that does for power but if the stock internals can take all that
So Honda is advertising the 2017 Civic as having 174hp, how come the baseline is 184 to the wheels?
Edwin Ortiz Good question.. They are actually more capable than advertised. The L15B7 Engine is a wolf in sheeps clothing for being a 1.5L is super strong , real HP is around 180+ .. My Gen X Si with with 6 psi Tune and Stage 1 PRL intake can hit mid 13’s 1/4 mile which tells me it’s around 230+ WHP 260 Wheel Torque and its a similar engine to the one on the EXT. So again underrated by factory in my opinion, Honda focuses more on showing the MPG numbers..
hey guys , i just got the sports hatchback, i jut wana know if hondata is legal, and if its guna void my warrant??
Have you tested any of these parts on the Civic SI?
Glad I live in Canada with good 94 octane.
Standard here in the netherlands 95 or the 98 one
Hello there! I drive a 2016 Honda Civic Coupe EX-T Turbo CVT... how much does all those you've added cost to get put on my year of Civic?!
Pretty good turbo to go that high anyways. Maybe the aftermarket can design a better turbo
Isn't the point of testing to see how far it'll go before it breaks? Like what's the actual limit of hp and torque before something snaps
I'll take my Ktuner please 😉
If all that is on a stock exhaust I imagine the gains after a cat delete + e85 would be enough to certainly need a beefier clutch hahahaha
is this also the limit of the cvt? awesome work!!!
Does anyone make a turbo back exhaust for this gen yet? -2017 hatchback
RogueTriumph did you get an exhaust yet?
now ...
test drive that bad boy !
Im planning on buying Hondata soon. Is there anything to worry about? Im not going to do a crazy mods but only light ones. Just want it more alive and responsive. I feel a slight lag on my 2017 hatchback sport.
How do you like it so far? I'm planning to buy one as a commuter.
It might void your warranty
I dont mind about the warranty as long as the changes are reliable. I dont plan on heavy tuning.
Alex B Did you get a custom tune or did you use the pre-set that comes with it?
you can't buy it. it says on their site it's for off road only.
Y no exhaust mod?perhaps with injen exhaust system will get slightly even better gains?
Not bad gains. what's the gain on the 1.5L turbo with the cvt auto.
Filling up your tank with 102 octane gas is impractical IMHO. It would've been fine with just a tune, intake ,intercooler and 91 octane gas. But I understand what hondata is doing when getting the most out of the stock turbo and they did a great job. I hope I can do this when I get the new Civic.
John L they wanted to max the turbo out. That's why they went to the higher octane.
That was my point. They wanted to test the limits of the stock turbo, along with some upgrades including high octane gas. And the turbo performed quite well. That being said, it's practical to do the upgrades with a different tune and use 91 octane gas to get usable hp and torque for daily driving. I would be satisfied with that setup.
I did not know that TD03 can do 27psi and live, that turbo will break in no time.
I'm still waiting that hondata work this in the honda fit :(
elgransr there's ktuner
hahaa ikr. still a pretty nice and nimble car. The swiss army of the cars
elgransr The Fit is most definitely not the Swiss army knife of cars.
HEY! Anyone else notice the 1.5 turbo has 28.0 psi? 4:43
Are these cars underrated from the factory? Those WHP numbers would signify these cars are closer to 190-200 crank HP stock. rather impressive from such a small engine.
So Honda must be under reporting the horsepower and torque numbers because here in North America the Civic has 174 crank horsepower claimed by Honda but obviously the baseline test here is showing 187 wheel horsepower and that if you add calculate 15% loss you should be in about 220 crank horsepower stock not 174, very interesting. About two weeks ago I bought it 2017 Volkswagen golf GTI and the numbers are 210 hp 258 pound feet of torque at 2000 RPM and it feels much more powerful than that I'm told that Volkswagen also under reports the torque and horsepower numbers and that it's actually around 260 hp and 280 pound feet and it does feel like it.
I really like these engines but they do have their limits.
I just bought my wife this car. We love this thing. Where can I get the intake? This my boys company
This is why I love turbo! So easy to gain power than NA engine. No wonder its getting alot of hate.
Wow ! awesome number ! Do you have a cat-back or it just the stock exhaust ?
Thats a Stock Exhaust.
Stop messing around with pump gas. The power isn't maxed until you start adding ethanol. E40-E50 is the sweet spot for DI engines. I would almost guarantee you could see 240-250whp with a mix. You can then skip the intercooler upgrade.
Will any of these work on the 2017 CR-V AWD?
Came late to the party but here you go if you dont already know: ecu tuning works, downpipes designed for the civic fit, intakes designed for the Si work if you manage to install them( I went PRL SRI), FMICs dont fit and noone has released one thats bolt-on
I'm missing something here. Honda rates the stock Motor at 174 hp
~172 lb-ft torque
yet you guys are saying that stock is 187 hp at the wheels?
please clarify.
Stephen Nichols 184whp after the hondata reflash. They just add some bolt ons and additional tuning.
Frandy Hdez
no. look again. 197 hp after reflash
187 hp base line
Stephen Nichols Honda low balled tha hp numbers from factory
hartfordraces
that would be nice if it were true. do you have references/links for this?
honda used a dyno that connects to the calipers and didnt give them the same results a dyno driven by tires would give. check out hondatas first videos on tuning the 2016 honda civic i believe they mention it whenever they see the torque difference
Hopefully the Civic SI well get at least a TD04 turbo or anything bigger than a TD03.
SI is the same old 2.4 NA i believe
Its already been confirmed that its going to be a 1.5l turbo
Well rumor is that its going to have around 240hp so i guess it would have to have the TD04 since hondata just said in this video that the turbo has topped out its capabilitys
Noah Cardwell 213 w
WHP is topped out? lol
i wasnt there to witness the dyno but if there not putting more boost through the turbo then i think it exceeded its limits so they would have to put a larger turbo to get more horsepower. It possibly could handle more but hondata tunes dont void the warranty i dont think
I would like to see 2 step
the numbers the SI shouldve came with. but it's fine where it's at
27.5psi on a TD03?!? That thing must've been a hair dryer, LOL! I'm sure it was blowing super hot air and waaaaaaaaay out of it's efficiency range. Heck, I don't run my Garrett GT2871 above 25, and that's when I'm spraying methanol and have E25 in the tank. On 93, I stick to 22psi. That's on a ~43 lbs/min turbo. (390/385 @ the wheels on high boost - Speed 3).
What does he mean by increase in knock at high boost?
Nice vid ! Only one thing , its not WHP like mentioned, its hp. Stock cant push 188whp while it has 180hp on paper. Delta is cool though !
Littleboi could you elaborate? I was wondering the same. I just picked up one of these and was wondering about 188whp x 115% = 216hp. This has to be crank hp, right?
27psi wtf
INVISIBLE SUN That's the same thing I was thinking.
INVISIBLE SUN from a td03. That's not really a lot of air.
INVISIBLE SUN its a baby turbo thats why
even more wtf. that much out of a small turbo
WTF
INVISIBLE SUN its air pressure, smaller piping/turbos at high psi are pushing less air than a big turbo at the same psi, if that makes any sense how i put it
Question is are all these parts carb legal with in 50 state? Lol...if it is...I'm going for it.
Swap in a turbo from the CR-V
Love videos like this
the 2.0l six speed needs some attention!
Time for a bigger turbo
Great video I want more!
hello do you know how much power the transmission can hold up engine power? 200 HP? I'm afraid the transmission is broken after tuning
Probably 230hp is the max before the motor is close to blow before the transmission. The Si can hold 600hp so far.
@@stratussx some one one the civicx forums have it at 300hp with his own personal tuning
I'd like to see a larger intercooler.
Why don't you make a tune for the 2016-2017 Honda Accord sedan 2.4l?
Honda has gone turbo way before but only in Japan.
What about the si model? curious about those gains as well
Do these 1.5 turbo civics have factory boost cause?
Why those 10th generation doesn't have that sport ignition sound coming from vtec?? 😞
Ariel Barria 10tj hwn turbos dont have vtec on the na 2.0 10th gen have vtec.
Why was the downpipe and a less restrictive exhaust not explored?
Hey +J Wong. I Think it may be because an aftermarket downpipe and front pipe were not yet available. CivicX has a discussion about it here: www.civicx.com/threads/prl-motorsports-downpipe-front-pipe-pre-order-1-5t-civic-x.8633/ It looks like PRL Motorsports target for release is April 2017. you can find the link to buy here: prlmotorsports.com/civicxdownpipefrontpipe.aspx#.WNM_-PkrLIU
It you look at the video at 0.34, ruclips.net/video/VILKSKJm5qM/видео.html, you can see an Injen 3in Cat-back exhaust. A link to buy one is here: prlmotorsports.com/injen2016hondacivic15lturbo3inexhaust.aspx#.WNNBS_krLIU
Hope this helps and #staytuned!
I'd def say add down pipe and exhaust retune it.
this motor was designed differently they have VTEC engaging in the beginning not in higher RPM look at the graph pretty much any motor at 27 pounds of boost would make power in higher RPM if that's the case they shouldn't have VTEC in the motor
dsm DaSoundMachine
Non vtec motor
The results a very impressive, would you be able to get similar results from a CVT gearbox? If not are Hondata able to provide a less aggressive result but still noticeable?
This is on a cvt.. all 10th gen automatics are turbo cvt.
@@starcraftgod1212123 he said at the beginning of the video manual
@@starcraftgod1212123 cvt version pushed to this limit will get destroyed
@@rayray_741 you're right I didnt notice that, but I got the two videos mixed up because Hondata did a cvt video as well. And I have a tuned cvt. But i went with ktuner and two step performance. Hondata swears up and down they pushed cvts to their limits and even burnt a couple out to find their sweet spots and make them very responsive and snappy. Ktuner say the same. And ktuner offers more support and active tunes
@@rayray_741 my stock cvt was 178 I'm pushing around 260 tuned with some bolt ons.
you need to get the air out, no down pipe, high flow cat, or at least a catback exhuast...? That's the first thing any honda (ricer) owner does is put exhaust on the car... I know I did
So if the Si is using the same engine how are they going to make buyers want it more if the Engine can only get 230 HP out of 91 oc which is pushing the limits of the engine to begin with just saying but its seems like Honda is trying to shoot itself in the foot why spend 25000 on a civic Si when you can get a Base Turbo for less and get the same HP?
close ratio trans with lsd, better suspension, better interior with the option for Navi and manual. also could be different turbo. all we know is its a 1.5. people are assuming it's an uptuned version of the current 1.5 turbo.
Honda already has that covered - the manual transmission versions are the stripper models on the current lineup. Want leather? Too bad. Want lanewatch? Nope. Want the good sound system? Forget it. The Si will offer all that as standard equipment & for many, that makes all the difference.
