      Depends on the circumstances. I was a pack and a half a day smoker for 20 years and I quit cold turkey. Had a really bad case of the flu which had me in bed for several days, so bad I couldn't even make it to my grandmother's funeral. When I finally felt somewhat better and could get out of bed, I went outside to have a cigarette. Between not having smoked for a couple of days, and still being pretty sick, it tasted terrible! And I knew in that moment I could quit. My brain was saying "this tastes disgusting" in that moment, so I put the cigarette out, and threw the rest of the pack away and never picked another one up. 15 years smoke free now.
      So for me, it was the stars aligning and seizing the opportunity. I know that isn't going to happen for everyone, but it is possible to do it all at once instead of gradually.

    • @LuckyBird551
      @LuckyBird551 23 дня назад +9

      A very good way to quit smoking is doing this two things: Wrap the pack of cigarettes around a piece of paper that says "REMEMBER THAT YOU WANT TO QUIT SMOKING" in big letters. Make sure that the paper is wrapped around it and fastened with like 20 rubber bands, so that it is extremely bothersome to take a cigarette out, and force yourself to wrap it all up again if you actually do take out a cigarette. The second thing is to tell everyone, and I do mean EVERYONE, you know that you are trying to quit smoking. From your closest friends, to your family, coworkers, that guy that sells you a sandwich after work at that little store down the street... everyone. And that they should tell you "Aren't you trying to quit smoking?" if they ever see you with a cigarette.

    • @ValkyrieTiara
      @ValkyrieTiara 23 дня назад +11

      @@tertene It's so easy to just go buy a pack in a moment of weakness. If smoking is something that you really love or if you have a particularly addictive personality, have depression, or are under a lot of stress, it's easy to put quitting out of your mind and make excuses like "I'm just gonna have one" while you buy a pack. Keeping it on you but making it a pain to get to, and making yourself literally have to confront the reminder that YOU WROTE and make the active choice to throw that physical manifestation of your conviction aside and have a cigarette anyway can really help. Some people don't need that or don't find it makes a difference, but for others it matters a lot.

      you can always jump from candy to something else, and candy can be moderated more easily (cigarettes commonly have pretty extreme nicotine doses)
      part of why i recommend vapes (specifically the ones that use external vape oil) is bc you can control your nicotine intake better and actually gradually wean yourself off. vape oil comes in different concentrations, and you can get concentrations low enough that they aren't very addictive. i've even seen some place sell nicotine-free oil, which is helpful for those who just have that oral fixation and want something more than just a fake cigarette.
