    Thank you for sharing your story, being the parent of an autistic child can be isolating. It is always helpful for me to hear other's journeys and inspires me. We must never give up on our children, they grow a little everyday.

    I think one reason why her twins are so far behind and severely impacted by autism, is that in Singapore there is a lack of early intervention/special needs services there. An Australia expat there had to take her daughter back to Australia when the daughter was diagnosed with autism, and as a result made amazing progress and thrived on the early intervention offered there. She said that in Singapore there is a "wait and see" approach when making a diagnosis and that disabled kids can't be around normally developing kids.

    When I see this video, I feel less bad about my self. Even though I have schizophrenia, it is still not as big of a disability as severe autism.
    My mother is definitely trying to provide for me, now that I am unemployed, but I am trying to return to the workforce. And I hope I will be able to treat her to nice meals in the future.
    Honestly I have to give it to the mother. There was the news of the Bukit Timah murder. Because the father got depression from taking care of special needs twin sons. So you know how difficult abnormal children can be to nurture.
    Despite all these difficulties and challenges, she never gave up on her children and is still very proud of them. It is amusing how delusional love can make people. She couldn’t gracefully receive the clinical comment that her children are mentally retarded. It’s like when outsiders see a boyfriend or girlfriend and know they are toxic, but the person in love cannot see it.

    She is so strong... It is good that she has helpers (I saw total 5 people when they were having meals at the market so I assume the other two are helpers which are common in Singapore? ) which may take some burden from her. I can't imagine day in and day out taking care of two adults...

    Wait hold up, are paediatricians even allowed to use the term "mentally retarded"? I am pretty sure they are taught to use other means of expressing like "mental abilities of x year old" instead?

      I've heard of other doctors using the R word to describe autism. Thankfully none of my son's doctors have done that because I would flip out on them.

    • @iamjaydennn
      @iamjaydennn Год назад +4

      Would she have woke up from her denial if the doctor didn't on purpose use such strong words?

    • @sapphiremoonstone939
      @sapphiremoonstone939 Год назад +6

      The description is accurate if you watch the video. You have to understand that autism is a spectrum of different levels. And there are high and low functioning people. The Doctor already tried to be respectful by describing her children as mentally retarded, instead of saying they are stupid retards and insulting them. It should be some kind of clinical term.
      This lady is just the typical proud Asian mom. So she is in complete denial that her daughters are in fact mentally retarded. My mother is almost the same.
      I have schizophrenia and my mother has never completed accepted the fact. And there are times when we talk and she try to explain it away. I myself have already completed accepted the fact that I not only have schizophrenia, but I am in the category that sometimes go insane.

      @@sapphiremoonstone939 The correct term is Intellectual disability, not mentally retarded. Just like how the correct term is autistic spectrum disorder and not simply autism. Comorbidity rate of someone having ASD as well as Intellectual Disability is around ~20%. They do not mean the same thing.

    Sent the kids to special home that got discipline for a while. They are 21 years old stuck in a pamper life. If they are in other countries like 3rd world. They already dead. Cannot survive outside
