Totally agree with you, FT03 great all rounder and more useful in more situations. I have both lights and have since discovered flashlights running the SBT90.2 LEDs. My fav smallish light comparable to the FT03 is the Acebeam K30GT, yes it’s 3 times the cost , claimed 5500 lumens and 1024 metres throw with 262kcd. Like all these modern flashlights, it’s the heat they generate being in small form factor that limits the high output runtimes. I still go for high lumens lights knowing that 95% of time I use them at around 60% output purely cause they can sustain a longer runtime and still provide loads of light. That’s what I tell myself anyways so I can justify buying more lights lol

Nothing wrong with that. I do the same. I just like having the capability and you pay for the quality of some lights, not their performance. Convoy is good enough for me.

Since i made a custom easy clip on n off diffuser for my kr1 it was an easy choice to buy the l21a and do the same for that light too. The diffuser i made doesn't limit the light output much and does not eliminate the hotspot either, it just makes it 3 to 4 times larger and softer. This enables me to use just one light for everything and thus made my kr1 w2 my edc light with the option of the long throw when i need it. I plan to use my l21a as my car light with a similar diffuser and also have available the long throw when the situation needs it. To make such a diffuser is quite easy and fast. All you need is a clear plastic bottom from a coffee cup. You cut it with scissors at the diameter of the front glass of the torch, not in a perfect circle but rather in a slight oval shape with the long edges just a tad bigger than the diameter of the glass. That way you can slightly bend it when attaching it and when you release it gets caught into the bezel but also leaves a small gap to one side that you can later put your fingernail in and remove it quickly. This was essential to keep the edc characteristics of the kr1 as the diffuser being recessed into the bezel cannot accidentally fall off when taking the kr1 out of a tight jeans pocket. To create the right amount of diffusion on the clear plastic all you need to do is to file it in circular motions with a 240 sandpaper from both sides till you get the amount of diffusion you like. File it less or from only one side and you get less diffusion and a tighter beam, file it more and you get a floodier beam. Voila. Edc-ing any thrower easily. Made my kr1 my most loved light since then. Everyone should give it a go too. Just be careful to not turbo the light sitting on a table with the head downwards as you risk melting the diffuser that way. For any other usage the diffuser can handle the heat easily.

Absolutely. I just bought a convoy L21B XHP 35 HI because I wanted a light that does it all fairly well.

I definitely agree the L21a is less practical but I think it's a little more for hobbyists than for practical use. The same way car people will spend thousands of extra dollars or remove weight, etc. to shave a few 10ths of a second off their 0-60 time, I'm happy to trade some practicality in my flashlight when the goal is just that little bit extra candela (or lumens depending on the case). There's some value in a product that brings a smile to your face and that you can show off to your friends and online even if that's all you really get out of it.

Good comparison!! I really like the ft03, it’s such a versatile light with so many led options.
I can definitely recommend my acebeam k75, it has a wide enough spill for walking and amazing throw at anything from 7 lumens and up.
It can produce 1250 lumens for over 5 hours at nearly 300000kcd.
Of course it can got too 1.5million kcd but I rarely use that unless I’m trying to light up something over a mile away.

Amongst all these thrower lights and especially those with the newer sbt90.2 led, the wurkkos ts30s seems like the more versatile of the bunch, huge and bright spill area but both throwy at 900m+ and compact enough to carry it with you. A similar contender but twice the price is the Acebeam k30gt, still compact enough for jacket pockets but with better runtimes due to the 4 cells in its soda can shape. 45mm in the grip is just perfect and a bit over 50mm on the head makes it an excellent choice. Too bad acebeam soon plans to discontinue it

Your L21A mustn't be performing too good or your light box isn't set properly. I and many others get at least 1,300 lumens at 1,350m. That's beside the point of your video, but thought I should mention it

Lumens are relative. My KR1 with the W2 makes 1234 on my lightbox (claimed 1300 lumens by Intl Outdoor Store). Either way on my setup the KR1 makes more lumens. If you think the number should be higher for the L21A, then the number would also be higher for the KR1 and FT03.

@@300bhpton then there's an issue with your L21A. Received one faulty with a driver only pushing 4A

@@PiercingTheDarkness Thanks. I'm seeing 6.6+amp at the tailcap. So suspect it is fine. Also the lux numbers seem very close to the Convoy claims.

In the end both light have a right to exist, for practicality reasons I'd pick the Astrolux, and I'd pick the Convoy just for fun.
