      Yeah to have that trophy would be a huge morale boost for next year. And he would have at least made a significant history for Ferrari in F1 . Losing WCC in the era of Max's dominance would have been significant, not wdc significant, but significant nevertheless.

And its a long race to go. Imagine him being kicked out of the race and Norris having a technical defect...

      @@alessandroravagli1698 so from your point of view Ferrari should have just resigned today without any racing at all? Of course there was only a slim chance but nothing is impossible so its a race till the very end as also Hamilton showed very nicely.
      I wont deny its a nice overtake. It was a chance seen and taken, but the risk was considerably higher than any other overtake, thats also undeniable.
      Without risks it would also be boring though.

      yeah i was pretty surprised he was so upset he drove an amazing race an the WCC title was way out of reach since it didnt only depend on them having a great weekend but Mclaren to have a very bad one which was not very realistic.

      Yes, a disappointing end of the season for him/them because the points difference with McLaren is SO small. Then you start looking back at races where you made mistakes and could've/should've had more points, for whatever reason.

      I think he partially blames himself because of his mistake in quali. Otherwise he could have started in more favourable position, and give Ferrari more of a fighting chance.

      @@2MuckinFuch Ferrari messed this year championship themselves, wrong set ups and mis communications leading to bad pit strats etc. I remember at one race both cars got DNF due to shitty setup and one race they put charles on hards during rain lol

    And SKY Sports only acknowledged Leclerc's performance after gushing about Hamilton for 45 mins, even asking Leclerc to comment on how good Hamilton's drive was.
    Don't get me wrong, Hamilton had a superb race, but going on and on about his "drive of a 7 time world champion" when Leclerc finished higher, gained more positions, and managed to gain 11 positions in 2 sectors, is peak brit in my opinion

      But Brundle literally said on commentary as the race was ending that Charles was his driver of the day and Croft agreed with him
      If you can’t let a British televised channel not focus on the end of Mercedes/lewis partnership which was the longest most successful partnership of all time then you’re holding them to standards you would never do for any other TV Channel that shows F1, and the sky sports part outside comms is a UK exclusive part as well

      Every time I read a comment like this, I'm so happy I switched to watching the F1TV broadcast with Alex Jacques last year. Crofty's last lap calls this year compared to Alex's were so cringe. "Lando Trumps Verstappen" and for LeClerc's Monaco win, "He's the son of a hair dresser, and he's a cut above the rest." 🤢🤮

    Its interesting how the entire media was talking about Max's Brazil drive for an entire week when he went from p17 (p15 cuz stroll and alex didn't start) to p1, although with the help of a red flag and safety cars to help him close the gaps. That drive was being labeled as one of the best of all time (which it was). But Charles goes from p19 to p3 with no full safety cars or red flags, just pure overtaking, yet hardly anyone's talking about it in the media. I'm not claiming Charles's drive was quite as good as Max, but he deserves more credit than he is getting.

      Well Max was under the rain and won the race, did that with the 3rd (or 4th) best car in a crucial moment for the WDC. If Leclerc won the race and the WCC for Ferrari then it could have been compared

      he did not see any crash or spin happening. the turn 1 incident was well ahead of him and the 4 car overtake with Bottas/ Perez was on the inside when Leclerc was already out of the way.

    I've been a big fan of Leclerc since his Sauber days. He was the model of consistency this year. One DNF an 11th and 14th place finish and all the other 21 races he finished in the top 5. One of only 3 drivers to score over 300 points. There wasn't much more he could have done to win the constructors championship.

    Ferrari lucked out with Max spinning Piastri and Charles drove like a champion. It's a shame that Lando and McLaren's performance kept them ahead of Sainz. This would have been a legendary victory for Ferrari but that's not how it played out.
    Congrats to McLaren for winning the WCC and to Ferrari, Max and Mercedes for an amazing and competitive season. I can only hope that next season carries this momentum.

      @@de1623 Egh yeah, Ferrari has had some real stinkers (especially Canada iirc) and even now has the second best car (although it's close), both those things definitely made it so they shouldn't have won, or at least that McLaren was more deserving overall.
      I for one just find it funny how Max has indirectly / unintentionally helped Ferrari so much over the last few races, it didn't end up changing anything but it made it more exciting since the WDC was already over.

      @@schkann1384 Red Bull was too strong anyway in second half of the season. Ferrari can't upgrade their cars like others do. They often fall behind as the season goes on, while others bring upgrades in regularly, they usually stop making significant upgrades halfway through the season. 2024 was a bit different, they seemed to catch up to Mclaren and Red Bull at the end. Sounds good for 2025, maybe Vasseur is the man ?

      @@Onezmhu so he didn't have the car to challenge for a championship. Of the 8 races where ferrari was competitive. the team bottled 4 of them, he bottled france (although the ferrari actually wasn't fast enough to win anyways) and he won the other 3.

    I think this shows why Ferrari stayed with Leclerc instead of Sainz. He did way more than was expected, while Sainz made mistakes which cost him a chance at the necessary P1

    i think kimi raikkonen at mugello 2020 may have been better, as he wasn't benefiting from the misfortune of others as much as charles. still a great recovery drive anyway
    edit: based on responses, i think portimao is the race i was referring to

    I was watching it love from Abu Dhabi T5 grandstand, and i couldn't believe my eyes what the madman was doing! To see him P8 at the end of lap 1 was crazy! The grandstand was cheering for his every move! Crazy experience and looking forward to some fireworks next season.

    Tbh I was really impressed by his drive in Abu Dhabi. His L1 was like a first lap in games, he placed his car perfectly when he needed to. Then good pace in ther race. I think it was his one of the best drives in 2024 season. Truely trying to maximize Ferraris chances for WCC.

    As a Ferrari fan, Mclaren was very consistent this season, and definetly deserved the WCC. Still hurts to see such a good performance not be enough.

    I really feel that this was his best recovery drive in f1.
