This little engine has reliably powered the magnificent Bell Jet Ranger helicopter for over 50+ years and is one hell of a gem of an engine! So tough and dependable.
And the thousands of hughes /md 500's it also powered certain versions of the twin engine as109's it also was made into a turboprop tens of thousands of these were made
This little jet engine is an amazing piece of engineering. Simplicity and robust. Maybe not the most efficient in the world. But just a badass piece, my favorite. Would love to build a jet boat with this driving an impeller. As compared to most using a chinook 1200 -2000shp. I think the lighter weight and power would be great for a little 14-16ft boat. Or mini jet boat.
Sir, I have a question for you. There are several videos of the Allison/RR 250 C turbine being tested on a ground stand. In such condition, the power turbine isn't connected to any mechanical load (transmission, or a test brake). Since the 250 is a free-turbine design, doesn't the power turbine overspeed - even with the gas producer at idle - when left unloaded? Thank you.
@avonaero1 - Question for you, I don't know much about the design of that. Is the shaft PTO a separate turbine that free spools or it is driven from a common shaft. Appreciate the info and thank you for sharing this!
Loved working with & running up this P/P in school. Have often thought about powering a riding mower for " mower racing ". Hell, if it will drive a bike, why the hell not??

I'm just saying man, with vantablack being a possibility for someone to recreate I see a tiny AR500 armored cobra type RC helicopter of doom to be made.
No, not used as an apu, lol. It's a T-63 turbine. Made for the keawa oh-58 helicopter. I know, I worked on them in the Army... among several other types of helicopter engines. I served in an CH-47c\d model Chinook unit in Germany before the wall fell.
you realize what a big deal they make of the least little ding or dent in that combustor skin or those tubes on the side. They are supposed to leave the plant almost flawless. I inspected so many of these.
If I ever get to a point where I have a good amount of free time and a good stable job with a comfortable amount of spare cash, I'd buy a nice, little, lightly-used Rolls Royce 250-C20 and a barn find Corvette, preferably the C4 chassis, and I'd put the two together. Maybe see if I can get these future "blackfinger" hands of mine on a C30 or even a C40 if those would fit in the engine bay. Then of course I'd have to make a heat exchanger to preheat the intake so it doesn't drain the fuel tank in a singular minute, the C20 does have like 400 herspers while the C40 makes a cool 700 flaming ponies of fury. And the heat exchanger would be so I can avoid peeling the paint of the Lambos I'd leave in my dust, and a nice exhaust after that to dampen the noise so I don't reach like 20 tickets per hour of law-shattering momentums. I'm also tired so I might not be thinking straight XD
If you can fit and secure it you can use it. No problem with horsepower because it can deliver easy. The one I was taught with put out ~420 shaft horsepower with some insane amount of torque. Weighs around 400 pounds.
Know what I like about the Allison? It is small, light weight(about +\-200lbs), and it has the necessary power needed to overcome most stall maneuvers."

This is what exactly am looking for or trying to learn better thanks
Supposed to run it up to 100 percent.
the green tape residue will definitely corrode your tube if its not cleaned with acetone/alcohol before running - stick the label on the AGB perhaps?
The one I played with had a bigass valve at the top of the intake. Great engine to learn with IMO.

What is that tiny smoke at 1:01 coming from the starter/generator terminal block? 🤓🤓🤓🤓
Looks like smoke coming from the starter.
@@avonaero1 Let's be funny! Small smoke = NO smoke! 😄 Or luckily things have welded themselves together for the proper contact 😄

@avonaero1 Can you tell me if your able to supply this engine ready to run? if so what cost and how do we contact you? Many Thanks

Yeah those little puppies are nice! I saw one for sale the other day for $430,000
Can this work in a pickup truck? I'm thinking about the ultimate unrealistic engine swap
I fucking love this little bastard
where is the rest of the helicopter that bolts onto it??
Should this be good on a dirt bike?

I'd like around the first 15 seconds of the startup as my ringtone..
I recorded the sound of myself breaking into my neighbor's apartment and going through her underwear drawer if your interested in that.

Yup. They move quite a bit of air and are thin. I've reworked many.
What were these engines used for? I thought it was a chopper but I dont see a PTO

was it used as an "APU"
No, 250 series engines are the main powerplant for several aircraft.
Bell Jet Ranger, Hughes 500, and many more.
That would be one hell of an APU

RR ALLISON M250-B17C ENGINE • $179,000
Its hard to reconcile that small spinning turbine producing all this power with a wind connection not a rigid connector of metal on metal.
그 엔진 구매하고 싶은데 팔것인가?
What do you use it in? It's too small for a boat....not enough power for an airplane. Drone or RC go-kart?
boboala1 400 to 700 HP depending on the model? Plenty. You can find a lot of airplanes with this engine.

boboala1 well you can fit this engine to a turboprop plane. And these engines can be used in Little birds. From MD500s to MH-6Js to even AH-6Js
Bell has used them for many years in the 206 and 407s. Some helis have 2 engines. They are used in turbo prop planes as well in the b17 model format.
The Y2K motorcycle has a helicopter engine about that size.

It goes through the accessory gearbox directly below the centerline of the engine.

I thought his was a Bently Helicopter motor?
Allison 250, used in Bell Jet Ranger, Hughes 500 and many other small helos. I always wanted to put one in a VW bus.
It is also used on a plane, Valmet L90 TP Redigo
