The biggest problem with DVJ is that he is launch punishable on block on almost EVERY single key tool or panic move, even on his “hop kick”, Samsara which is -25 because it can’t shift to FLY on block (???). The new d/f1, 2 would be better if the 1st hit had better frames and the 2nd hit was a mid (the follow-up has better range than the old one despite not knocking down, they had changed Lars’ d/f2, 1 in T7 from mid, high to mid, mid so they could do the same with this move too) Overall it’s a pain in the ass to redesign him as the coolest character of the game but the biggest joke with his move set. He has to be the worst Mishima if he remains the easiest of them but not like working so hard for a tiny reward

Devil Jin is currently my sub character. Yeah he's in a bad spot, but he is so darn fun to play as. Plus the visuals in 8 make him look cool. I definitely would love to see him strengthened for sure.

in tekken 7 i was a devil jin main until i got my hands on armor king, then switched. but tekken 8 came around and i've been back to devil jin. i'm not ditching my boy devil jin until i get armor king back
I really agree with the solutions. The way Namco balanced him in Tekken 7 is perfect, Heihachi, strong highs, mids and poking but the worst lows. Kazuya, strong highs, mids and lows but worst poking. Then Devil Jin, strong highs, lows and poking but the worst mids. They essentially turned Devil Jin into a worse Kazuya.
Most misunderstood character, even on release he was actually not that strong, its just his heatsmash was broken and people didnt know how to deal with his new stance that made him seem broken. the problem is they removed the good things he had in T7, replaced them with gimicky stuff that was decent at best in T8, then also removed whatever made him good in T8. so now you actually have a crippled/handicapped character. what even made no sense at all is buffing kazuya when DJ was actually in desperate needs for these kind of buffs. no neutral game what so ever, worst DB1 ive ever seen in my life, idk how they thought that high extension was so good that db1 OB had to be -6 LMFAO. and his MC stance is trash because u are literally at risk of ghetting floated, there is no mixup if the opponent just blocks. cd 1+2 is too god damn slow. they made his 112 and b1 2 to have insane pushback to force ppl to use his stance but then nerfed the living shit out of the stance? . idk i reached TGS with him but i agree with you its soooo much work, but idk this character is just so cool and fun, could never drop him. also i dont see why he shouldn't be broken, hes DEVIL JIN, face of the game? hello namco 😂
You are right cd1+2 isn’t a problem with it being slow it’s the fact there is almost no reward in using it kazuyas cd1+2 had the same issue but they giga buffed it kazuya did need buffs but they just gave us that and then some I think devil Jin should atleast be very good/broken but with heavy execution demands and I don’t really like how they are getting rid of some of the characters handicaps/weaknesses in this game not every one needs to have everything/play the same gameplan his MC stance is complete ass for the reasons u said it’s pretty gimmicky and risky they just gutted him and replaced his good stuff with risky gimmicks 😭 also why are his heat laser extensions only +2 OB those shits are linear asf and should be +6 at minimum he deals good damage but he plays a more setup based play style dude is almost unplayable if he didn’t have an electric he would be cooked 😭

I will admit, I've been playing less on Ranked cause I've been labbing this guy for days, but it just makes me wanna drink bleach just seeing my setups do so little or just fail and dying as a result and rubbing salt on the wound by seing how much others get off of so little. It's like they're retroactively trying to kill off the Devil Jin playerbase since he's not gonna be in the next game, and they're succeding. I'm hanging onto my final thread as a Devil Jin main, and I'm either giving into the peer pressure and switching to Jin, start playing Kazuya and/or Reina (and mayhaps Heihachi once he drops), going back to Leo, or just straight up quit the game if they dare to nerf him again just to be funny in a twisted sense of comedy

I also think Mourning crow mixup would be cool if 1,1,2 is successful, where they either sidestep to avoid the +9, but risk getting clipped by the homing move. At the moment, you can pretty much deny all that by just spring kicking, so itd be cool if we have a Reina 1,1,2 situation, take the stance mixup situation. He already has smth similar in his ws+1,2~F
Samsara is far from being what makes DVJ great. Actually, great DVJ players refrain from using this move as much as possible and they have literally nothing to gain with the old samsara. DVJ had his *traditional small Tekken* destroyed and that is what is actually hurting him.

I won't lie I kinda enjoy him being low teir, makes the rank I've achieved with him feel like I've really earned it. I think tho if they wont give him back his old df/1, 2 at least make the animation of the initial df1 like the old one, currently it feels like every time I press df1 im pushing my face into the opponent saying "hit me". The new df1 animation is so unsatisfying to me
I get that, and there's a certain novelty that comes with being able to pilot the least played Mishima in by an olympic mile. But, it's not particularly gratifying to have to work significantly harder than everyone else without the proportional reward for very long imo. In saying that, I'll continue to main him regardless, with how he's easily the most visually engaging character in this game, and he's newfound personality couldn't stand out to me more.
Nice vid! I think fixing his df1 alone would do sooooooooo much good. That and his jab range increasing would pretty much fix most of the problems w him imho. You can't do too much because the Mishima kit makes any char extremely strong skill ceiling wise (T7 to T8 Kaz is a great example of this). A heat addition/rework would be fantastic as well. They had to tone down the Heat Smash but lasers and EZ mode Electrics is simply not enough. His heat feels incomplete as it is now...but seriously WHAT could be added that would be unique to DVJ?
Only in heat, give him a command grab that grabs the opponent by the face and throws them halfway across the stage into an exploding wall (like he does to heihachi in the anime) lol
They need to buff his mids, and i really think he should be unique like every mishima was in t7. now hes just budget kazuya, i think reworking some of his moves or giving him more extensions from df 1 could be something. Or making the chain a mid so people dont just dodge 3 options by ducking ( HS electric and chain), and probably increasing the startup frames of chain & cd 1+2. his heat is so bad rn either revert the range or the tracking. would make sense to just revert the range.
Because even when he was strong he still took a lot of skill devil jin was never a character that could be auto piloted, his core game was spacing for whiff punishment a decent 50/50 solid oki very good damage potential. he was a jack of all trades but specialized in no specific category, so to use him, you had to be creative.
Watching any video that talks about how bad devil Jin is to cope. Like I put so much time and effort in this character just to watch the devs take a crap on him
his heat smash should just have old range with no tracking. With travel speed that makes using it close or right outside of range a threat, but slow enough it could only be used at longer range if you bait someone to attack into it.

You know what be really nice? If Kip-up (holding forward after a knd) didn’t beat EVERY MORNING CROW OPTION. MC oki is so useless and easily beatable, but the problem is is that the character for some baffling reason is designed behind this horrible stance! His punishment was changed from low knock back to high knock back (112, b1,2, etc) but doing MC off of a successful punish is basically suicide since it can be beaten so many ways and is so buggy and unreliable. Fuck this character is so shittily designed.

Been trying Devil Jin again in ranked after i dropped him post first update and its been hell. Maybe it's just me but having his old WS1,4 (and maybe WS1,2 as well) would help a ton too. Love that move.

Season 3 and majority of season 4 tekken 7 had dvj in a perfect spot. He was never unfair, he was objectively strong but not cheesy, you just had to respect the fuck out of him. Uf4 was a great mid and when they took that people realized it was legit his ONLY mid. If u blocked uf4 you got a +12 punish window, people hated it because it forced them to be patient and not mash. They didnt like b2 1 into heavens gate because they felt it was too much damage for no execution, but forget the rest of his kit is straight up killer execution. Devil jin was the easiest mishima, but that doesnt mean much when mishimas are already the hardest characters in the game to play, only characters like steve lee armor king, king and akuma all at a high level compare in technical skill. Devil jin didnt need to be touched, and tekken 8 is proof people dont know what theyre asking for nor do they care, and that the devs dont know how to put their foot down where they should. Theyve let dragunov and jin run around with little punishment. Devil jin needs major buffs.
it's frustrating as hell playing him in ranked but i always love how fun he is. its unfortunate how they put effort into making him so badass just to be so trash. i really hope he gets buffed soon. i agree with everything. id personally just give his poking and original demon's paw back and i'd be happy.
For me personally, Buffs for DVJ: Easier to IWS2 (as easy as doing Kazuya’s WS3 from WD) but make it -13, make WS44 delayable, both normal HS and WS44 hard knockdown into guaranteed B4 (sure the version we have now puts the opponent at -4 crouch, but unless they press on your DF1 or B4 you get nothing for those frames-not to mention you lose your turn/are launched depending on how you capitalize on your +4), heat lasers more plus and leave you closer, make MCR 22 -12 with the normal 2 being safe at -9, DF2 CH is +15 or +16 with being -12, and DF1 -3 or -4.
I agree that a top 2 maybe even a top 1 hardest character in the game should always be good purely because performing consistently is just tooo damn hard with this character
Outside of what you outlined in the video i think morning crow stance is very weak outside of heat. After my heatsmash I have no safe compact options like reina has withHW stance. I can either press mc1 and risk being floated by a jab or full send with a mc22 leaving me -13. I hate the fact that everyone else in the game gets a potent mix after heatsmash on blockand i have to gamble on being floated or yolo a punishable mid. And dont even get me started with this situation vs yoshimitsu. Mc1,mc22,and empty mc all get launched by his flash. This leaves only mc3 as and option that can also be floated by a jab. It just an awful situation for him.
I love to see the one mishima with mid PEWGF that tracking both side i mean character will be like with one broken move with other mediacor stuff imo this is cool change for the effert of pewgf then maybe iws2 be like launch punishable
I appreciate this video, Tekken 8 is my first fighting game. I played the game because of my friends, and devil jin is my main, I really enjoyed playing him, in fact I reached fujin after playing him within 3 months, i dont know if its impressive but my friends say so since im starting to beat the sht out of them 😅 in my first months playing him i dont really mind the nerf that much since im new to the game, but as I play deep into the game I started to notice it, it feels unfair when my friend plays azucena lili dragunov hwoarang, jin, tho i still can beat them it feels like I need to try really hard to get a W using him, I still enjoy using him but sometimes its tiring to see some random characters win without a sweat
They should make him play more like how he was in Tag 2. So remove the launch from hellsweep, he already has cd44 for +4 OC and a chunk of unrecoverable life. Then give him back the old df12 and make uf4 not a heat engage but knockdown into a guaranteed b4.
Played armor king in t7 in t8 picked devil jin thinking he would be a fun challenge since hes usually a good hard to pilot character but then it was nerf after nerf after nerf after nerf😓🙏
I think his tekken 7 poking would be enough when they nerfed his range and made him more set up heavy is what hurt him, the db 4 from kazuya would be overkill as he has crouching 4 down 3 and db 4 is still the same as it was from t7 I would make jin's down 2 not ch launch anymore and make it like t7 db 4 ch launcher late patch where you could only get his down 1+2 get rid of that top tier privilege.
Change F4,3 to just a slower F4 that crushes on CH. Similar to the last kick on his 3,1,4 string. A new low or buff his dB 2. Fix df 1,2. Those are just a few I can think of. Also it's not fair regular Jin is able to crouch dash after every move. Let DJ have some.

Honestly just revert the changes they did to him and make his hellsweep not flip people on their face. Also buff df1 to be -1 or 2 on block and jail with the df12 string like Azucena. And that’s alot better than what he is now.
DVJ needs to become a poking character that requires a brain to play again, right now, he caters to a 50/50 mixup style because his poke damage is lower and they insist to keep the best move in the game (launching hellsweep) part of his kit, when it makes him impossible to balance. If they remove his launching Hellsweep, and make CD4,4 a CH launcher again like in T6 and TTT2, he'll be top tier if they can just buff his poke damage, make DF1 -2 on block and make DF1,2 CH confirmable. Just my thoughts as a TGO DVJ in T7
1+2 ARMOR , mc1, 1+2 Garant, increase length of 1 jabs, laser canons 13 14 20 frames, remove this garbage 112 pushback on other side of arena(for 112 d1+2 setups) tracking for fly 2 , move opponent body close after successfully RA(for d1+2) litle more range for b4 and d1+2(im tired moving forward after knockdown opponents for successfully hit with b4 and d1+2) wavu 3(mid poke) garbage change on something useful

I think tho if they wont give him back his old df/1, 2 at least make the animation of the initial df1 like the old one, currently it feels like every time I press df1 im pushing my face into the opponent saying "hit me". The new df1 animation is so unsatisfying to me
I get that, and there's a certain novelty that comes with being able to pilot the least played Mishima in by an olympic mile. But, it's not particularly gratifying to have to work significantly harder than everyone else without the proportional reward for very long imo. In saying that, I'll continue to main him regardless, with how he's easily the most visually engaging character in this game, and he's newfound personality couldn't stand out to me more.
Nice vid! I think fixing his df1 alone would do sooooooooo much good. That and his jab range increasing would pretty much fix most of the problems w him imho. You can't do too much because the Mishima kit makes any char extremely strong skill ceiling wise (T7 to T8 Kaz is a great example of this).
A heat addition/rework would be fantastic as well. They had to tone down the Heat Smash but lasers and EZ mode Electrics is simply not enough. His heat feels incomplete as it is now...but seriously WHAT could be added that would be unique to DVJ?

Only in heat, give him a command grab that grabs the opponent by the face and throws them halfway across the stage into an exploding wall (like he does to heihachi in the anime) lol
They need to buff his mids, and i really think he should be unique like every mishima was in t7. now hes just budget kazuya, i think reworking some of his moves or giving him more extensions from df 1 could be something. Or making the chain a mid so people dont just dodge 3 options by ducking ( HS electric and chain), and probably increasing the startup frames of chain & cd 1+2. his heat is so bad rn either revert the range or the tracking. would make sense to just revert the range.
Maybe they will never do it BUT if they buff him, everyone will cry about him again and he will be nerfed even more

Because even when he was strong he still took a lot of skill devil jin was never a character that could be auto piloted, his core game was spacing for whiff punishment a decent 50/50 solid oki very good damage potential. he was a jack of all trades but specialized in no specific category, so to use him, you had to be creative.
Watching any video that talks about how bad devil Jin is to cope. Like I put so much time and effort in this character just to watch the devs take a crap on him

his heat smash should just have old range with no tracking. With travel speed that makes using it close or right outside of range a threat, but slow enough it could only be used at longer range if you bait someone to attack into it.

MC oki is so useless and easily beatable, but the problem is is that the character for some baffling reason is designed behind this horrible stance! His punishment was changed from low knock back to high knock back (112, b1,2, etc) but doing MC off of a successful punish is basically suicide since it can be beaten so many ways and is so buggy and unreliable.

Season 3 and majority of season 4 tekken 7 had dvj in a perfect spot. He was never unfair, he was objectively strong but not cheesy, you just had to respect the fuck out of him. Uf4 was a great mid and when they took that people realized it was legit his ONLY mid. If u blocked uf4 you got a +12 punish window, people hated it because it forced them to be patient and not mash. They didnt like b2 1 into heavens gate because they felt it was too much damage for no execution, but forget the rest of his kit is straight up killer execution. Devil jin was the easiest mishima, but that doesnt mean much when mishimas are already the hardest characters in the game to play, only characters like steve lee armor king, king and akuma all at a high level compare in technical skill. Devil jin didnt need to be touched, and tekken 8 is proof people dont know what theyre asking for nor do they care, and that the devs dont know how to put their foot down where they should. Theyve let dragunov and jin run around with little punishment. Devil jin needs major buffs.

For me personally, Buffs for DVJ: Easier to IWS2 (as easy as doing Kazuya’s WS3 from WD) but make it -13, make WS44 delayable, both normal HS and WS44 hard knockdown into guaranteed B4 (sure the version we have now puts the opponent at -4 crouch, but unless they press on your DF1 or B4 you get nothing for those frames-not to mention you lose your turn/are launched depending on how you capitalize on your +4), heat lasers more plus and leave you closer, make MCR 22 -12 with the normal 2 being safe at -9, DF2 CH is +15 or +16 with being -12, and DF1 -3 or -4.

Outside of what you outlined in the video i think morning crow stance is very weak outside of heat. After my heatsmash I have no safe compact options like reina has withHW stance. I can either press mc1 and risk being floated by a jab or full send with a mc22 leaving me -13. I hate the fact that everyone else in the game gets a potent mix after heatsmash on blockand i have to gamble on being floated or yolo a punishable mid.
And dont even get me started with this situation vs yoshimitsu. Mc1,mc22,and empty mc all get launched by his flash. This leaves only mc3 as and option that can also be floated by a jab. It just an awful situation for him.
I moved from Jin to Devil Jin so I would be 0% carried and now feel like 10x the player and have even ranked passed my Jin. Might need more nerfs

I appreciate this video, Tekken 8 is my first fighting game. I played the game because of my friends, and devil jin is my main, I really enjoyed playing him, in fact I reached fujin after playing him within 3 months, i dont know if its impressive but my friends say so since im starting to beat the sht out of them 😅 in my first months playing him i dont really mind the nerf that much since im new to the game, but as I play deep into the game I started to notice it, it feels unfair when my friend plays azucena lili dragunov hwoarang, jin, tho i still can beat them it feels like I need to try really hard to get a W using him, I still enjoy using him but sometimes its tiring to see some random characters win without a sweat

I think his tekken 7 poking would be enough when they nerfed his range and made him more set up heavy is what hurt him, the db 4 from kazuya would be overkill as he has crouching 4 down 3 and db 4 is still the same as it was from t7 I would make jin's down 2 not ch launch anymore and make it like t7 db 4 ch launcher late patch where you could only get his down 1+2 get rid of that top tier privilege.
Change F4,3 to just a slower F4 that crushes on CH. Similar to the last kick on his 3,1,4 string. A new low or buff his dB 2. Fix df 1,2. Those are just a few I can think of.
Also it's not fair regular Jin is able to crouch dash after every move. Let DJ have some.

Honestly just revert the changes they did to him and make his hellsweep not flip people on their face. Also buff df1 to be -1 or 2 on block and jail with the df12 string like Azucena. And that’s alot better than what he is now.
Devil Jin right now is just too honest and as a player you have to work hard for the damage
DVJ needs to become a poking character that requires a brain to play again, right now, he caters to a 50/50 mixup style because his poke damage is lower and they insist to keep the best move in the game (launching hellsweep) part of his kit, when it makes him impossible to balance. If they remove his launching Hellsweep, and make CD4,4 a CH launcher again like in T6 and TTT2, he'll be top tier if they can just buff his poke damage, make DF1 -2 on block and make DF1,2 CH confirmable.

1+2 ARMOR , mc1, 1+2 Garant, increase length of 1 jabs, laser canons 13 14 20 frames, remove this garbage 112 pushback on other side of arena(for 112 d1+2 setups) tracking for fly 2 , move opponent body close after successfully RA(for d1+2) litle more range for b4 and d1+2(im tired moving forward after knockdown opponents for successfully hit with b4 and d1+2) wavu 3(mid poke) garbage change on something useful
or give him Jin 8 base jabs(hand and legs)
