Power Rangers was the best thing that ever happened to Johnny Yong Bosch...which led to him being a kickass voice actor, which he still is today.
I just searched up his imdb and wow, he's a lot of characters I know of. Feels weird for some reason, but not like bad weird, just weird.
The story is after Power Rangers, things didn’t go so well for him until he got into a voice gig where they said he had a good hero voice, and the rest is history.

My favourite part of the whole season is when Rocky receives his powers, and it cuts briefly to Alpha comforting Billy as he struggles to accept it. It's just such a powerful moment conveyed in a very short amount of time.
Also when the crystal breaks up and Rocky sees he's blue, he looks at Tommy like he's thinking "WTF, why does HE get the Red one?!"

You've really got to feel bad for Zedd at the start of this season. He's finally defeated the Rangers, destroyed their base, potentially destroyed his arch enemy Zordon, and got his hands on an insanely powerful artefact. But, before he even has the chance to start enslaving people, the Machine Empire comes the hell out of left field, and he's forced to abandon his palace to go live with his father-in-law.

Thats something funny. If people see anything that's not white it's racist. You have a character with native American blood and try to incorporate their heritage? "Nah, it's stereotypes, no I won't do research to see if it has any real bases" or like Zack being the black ranger. Seriously, I think it's extremely racist saying "you can't be this color power ranger because your skin matches the suit." The actor for Zach has said many times that there was no Mal intent and he was proud to be the black power ranger.

@@ther0ach28 Kind of like the Speedy Gonzales of Looney Tunes situation. Some folks saw Speedy as an offensive stereotype of Mexicans & essentially tried to cancel the character. But it turns out that many Hispanic-Americans liked the character & pushed for him to come back.
Having something non-white is not inherently racist so long as it's done with proper care & respect to the cultures being represented. Hell, members of that culture may even be a fan of that representation & love it. I get they want to fight harmful stereotypes & racists views. Just make sure to check with minorities to see if they actually have a problem with it. Otherwise, you'll end up speaking over & for minorities which can be a bit racist in of itself.

I loved 'It Came From Angel Grove', if for nothing else the idea that the hero was having a nightmare because---he was overtired! No villain manipulation, no spell, no blow to the head or like that, not even a secret test of character. Just too much work and not enough rest.
Which does offer a WMG on why Tommy got his degrees so quickly. After leaving the Rangers, and having gotten by on low sleep and rushed homework for years, just having a normal college sched must have seemed like an extended vacay.

Here is a fun fact albeit sad: the episode was dedicated to Carol Michelle Mickelson, a young fan with a terminal illness who visited the set of the show when the episode was filmed. Sadly Carol passed away before it aired.

1. Sadly, Jason's brother Eric died in 2001 around the same time of Thuy Trang's death. 2. The actress that played the ski instructor was also in VR Troopers with Brad Hawkins.

If Ryan Steele had been the Gold Ranger, it would have bridged the gap between VR Troopers and Power Rangers nicely. Turbo would still ruin everything but Zeo could have been one step further towards greatness.

Was tempted to do a callback with text over their heads going "Who the hell is this guy?" but I figured it'd interrupt the flow of the ending clip.
Honestly, I didn't think even Rocky or Adam would remember Jason. I mean, as far as I can remember, they only met once when during the power transfer, and I'm not sure if he left that much of an impression on them. Or maybe they just remember the guy who wore bright red clothes. Who knows.
They never really met Jason, just his stock footage.

The beginning of this episode reminded me of a theory I came up with. I theorized that Ernie is actually Zordon in disguise, using his human form to scout out potential candidates for Rangers, as well as keeping close tabs on said rangers after they were chosen. That would explain why a juice bar would have all kinds of physical activities like gymnastics, karate, trampolines etc. Zordon was searching for teenagers of proper physical skill and personal conduct
So, what you're saying is, Skull was actually onto something in MMPR Season 2?

I remember when they previewed the Gold Ranger and distinctly hearing Jason's voice and actually wanting to watch it to confirm it. Also, did anyone else realize at that time that the number for each Ranger was the number of lines or points of the visor. 1 is a circle, 2 is an equal sign or 2 lines, 3 is a triangle, 4 is a rectangle, and 5 is a star. Even the Gold Ranger has 6 points sorta to his shape. Maybe I'm reading a bit too much into it though.

I think referring to them as "Zeo Ranger [number] [color]" helps. Alien Rangers/Kakuranger did the same thing, actually: red is 1 (circle), white is 2 (a japanese letter formed from 2 lines), yellow is 3 (triangle), blue is 4 (square), black is 5 (pentagon). Even Falconzord, who in Kakuranger was a rangerless Zord ala Titanus, has a hexagon on its belly.
I always thought that 2 is a pause button and 6 is a Japanese symbol.
@@samflood5631 The Gold Ranger's symbol is indeed the Japanese kanji for "king". In the Sentai series, he's called the KingRanger, as he is the child king of an ancient civilization.
I'm surprised Linkara didn't bring up that the actress who played the ski instructor also played Kaitlin Star, one of the VR troopers. Especially since he brought up the potential crossover between the two shows involving the gold ranger.
Ryan Steele becoming the Gold Ranger would have been great bridge between the two shows. Imagine: the VR Troopers defeated Grimlord and Silver Hills is safe. With no threat of virtual invasion, the Troopers retire. Ryan comes to Angel Grove, meets the Rangers, is given the Golden Power staff once Trey becomes unable to use them and so forth. Personally I would have preferred Billy taking the job but we all know why that didn't happen, which is total bullshit.
Yeah they could had her played her VR Troopers character during that three parter instead of having her play a new character. Which at least had they done that the break up would had made more sense due to them fighting evil on separate teams.

Robert Wisdom Billy couldn't be a Ranger of any color in the Zeo season, why you ask, one, he didn't go on a Zeo quest, second, although he gave a big sentimental speech about being an advisor and giving his part of the cystal to Tanya, it wasn't his Crystal, it was Aisha's crystal and she already gave it to Tanya.

When Jason morphs into the Gold ranger, he doesn't say Zeo Ranger VI, though you can argue that he didn't originally have the gold ranger powers by default, they were transferred to him by Trey of Triforia.

As I’m watching this, I’m noticing how nearly every shot of Billy had a mean either a black or dark gray shirt. Considering the shows propensity for making the Rangers wear their colors even in civilian form, this makes it even more surprising that he didn’t become the Gold Ranger (who is really more of a Black Ranger but Gold sounds cooler)
Yost personally belives he never had a chance to be the gold ranger and was demoted to tech support for being gay

Wow, this is a massive improvement from the original version of the review from over 6 years ago. I love how you've been going and correcting just about every mistake or error you made previously (much like how you said you'd do previously, though in its own separate video) in these redone HOPR reviews, and it really goes to show how much the quality of HOPR has improved since you first began working on it. Finally touching on the Trueheart episodes was great, and honestly, the clip you used at the beginning of this one with Ernie talking to the blender was a much more hilarious choice than the computer virus one you used at the start of the original Zeo review.
And here I am 6 years later reading your comment. I am in my mid 30’s trying to recapture my childhood!

For the stereotypical Native American story arc, at least they went with "generic" and not "made up by a known fraud", looking at you Star Trek Voyager.
How many Native Americans actually care, is my question. I assume that some do, but I also need more evidence for some of the stereotypes used being 100% because of the characters being Native American, and *not* because magic old men are kind of a thing in Power Rangers. ;)
Otaku Well, I was more poking at Voyager entirely using stuff from a known fraud, which at least some find offensive. As for Power Rangers, I doubt they care that much, it's a kids tv show.
Being part Injun myself, I'm just happy that the stereotype at least seems to be "broken English, but high amounts of wisdom"

Otaku I’d imagine that most people who are considers Native American, like is the case with African Americans, find stereotypical portrayals of people of their race as funny when it isn’t done with the intention of being racist

Frankly, I think the main issue with Tommy and Katherine’s relationship versus Tommy and Kimberly’s is a comparative lack of screen time devoted to it. Kim had the better part of three seasons where we saw how good she and Tommy were together whereas Kat only really had half of this season and half of the next. That’s not a knock against Kat, mind you (I honestly liked that Doug Sloan had her show maturity by NOT immediately taking advantage of Tommy getting dumped and trying to set him up with Heather rather than claim him for herself, since it shows that she prioritizes Tommy’s happiness over her own and I think that’s a good quality to look for in a partner), it’s just that the audience doesn’t really get the same kind of emotional investment with her that they did with Kim if only because there was less time to establish it. With Kim, we saw them together, going on dates, fighting side-by-side (the unmorphed fight in “Two for One” is a good example of this, showing how effective and in-synch they were with each other), and hell, over 25 years later, they’re STILL the only Ranger couple to get an on-screen kiss. There wasn’t nearly enough of that with Kat to really sell their relationship.
Granted, I don’t think it would’ve been impossible to make the relationship work even with having less episodes to do it in (Zeta Gundam managed to do this with Kamille and Four in even LESS time), but then we have to take into account another factor: Johnathan Tzachor’s bizarre form of laziness - which, looking back, was always there, it just only became impossible to ignore by the Neo-Saban era. When you have a guy at the helm whose mentality was basically “burn through as much of the Sentai footage as we can”, you then realize why Katherine never got that chance. By Zeo, the suits changing meant we were back to mostly Sentai footage for the fights, and Kat’s effectiveness was hampered by the fact that in Ohranger, Momo was more often than not the resident damsel in distress of the team. This was in contrast to Kimberly, who was prone to needing to be rescued on occasion, sure (Changing of the Zords, anyone?), but also had more episodes that showcase that she was still as effective a fighter as anyone else on the team. Having more episodes like the aforementioned Two for One could’ve helped further establish both the relationship and the idea of Kat as Tommy’s equal - or at least as close as any of the Rangers could be to being Tommy’s equal, since by this point he was on a level light years ahead of them - but I don’t think Tzachor was really interested in that. He wanted to do things on the cheap, damn everything else. And when Turbo DID give an opportunity for moments like that - the Piranhatrons were American-exclusive foot soldiers unlike the Cogs - everyone behind the scenes knew that Jason David Frank was leaving, so they didn’t care anymore. Doubly so when it became clear that Catherine Sutherland wouldn’t be sticking around either.
You know, Sutherland mentioned that they wanted her to return for Dino Thunder, with Kat as Tommy’s wife and presumably serving a similar role as what Hayley ultimately filled, but due to costs, they could only get JDF. And as much as I prefer Tommy with Kimberly, I won’t deny that I’m curious as to how this version of the season would’ve played out, if only because maybe there would’ve finally been a chance to see their relationship properly on display rather than being more or less in the background.

I honestly prefer Tommy and Kat. I just feel like she cared about him more, and yea it sucks that their relationship didn’t get nearly enough screen time, but I’m grateful for what they did get and I like to think they still ended up together, like they met up at their class reunion or something and started dating dating again and eventually got married and had a kid.

Good to see this back. Time to see how much of an improvement this version is over the original version you did years ago.
I know that you don't watch the Sentai but yeah, this is also the season where both the US and Japanese versions of it went in different directions. The Sentai for Zeo, Chouriki Sentai OhRanger was to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Super Sentai. It was going to be serious, intense and good... until real life events changed the plot and kind of caused the show to go downhill quality-wise. Ohranger was going to be the Sentai that would ultimately kill Super Sentai altogether... until they learned that toy sales for the show reaches a monstrous high. Yeah. Even in Japan, Sentai is merchandise driven and that pretty much gave TOEI one more chance and Carranger came about that saved it. It wasn't until Gingaman where ratings would be stable again.
Power Rangers Zeo was basically where things take a light hearted turn. And that's all I can say since the show did have some good moments and character development. Though watching this and the original version of HOPR Zeo, I seem to get the idea. And we know what will happen next after this.

Only two months between MMPR and Zeo?? It felt like soooo much longer when I was a kid. I swear, it felt like a year, maybe more. I remember thinking Power Rangers was done and over and was never coming back. And then we started seeing those shorts on Fox Kids. Those shorts that ended with a snippet of the original Zeo theme which sang "It's coming." I remember the suspense, as well as the hope.
In the comics it's started that Kimberly didn't actually meet someone else up broke up with Tommy because she felt they just grew too far apart.

I like the theory that Ernie was Zordon in a man behind the curtain act strengthened by the fact that their departures happened nearly at the same time. And also David fielding said that was originally going to be a reveal back when IS was only going to be a single season.

About the Zeo Ranger shapes, they’re supposed to signify the ranger’s number. The pink circle is 1, the yellow pause button is 2, the blue triangle is 3, the green rectangle is 4, the red star is 5 and the gold Japanese symbol is 6. Wild force’s golden sash did the whole Ranger number thing, white has 1 sash, black has 2 sashes, blue has 3 sashes, yellow has 4 sashes, red has 5 sashes and silver has 6 sashes.
I love how the Gold Ranger's footage immediately looks about a decade older.

Hey, nice to see a fresh version of the Zeo review here on YT. I've noticed a lot more changes here as compared with the other reviews, kudos on that since it made this video all the more interesting to watch and illuminated some really interesting details not covered before, so this definitely was worth the time to make :)
To be slightly fair to the Native American magic stuff, they do live in a world with a LOT of magical users, influences, abilities and sources. We've seen literally hundreds of them, including various Gods and spirits. So in that world, it's not really a stretch that we happen to find a Native American character with magic powers.
Though, that doesn't excuse the annoying trope of using whatever cultural elements they can scarcely recall, mashed together from various different tribes from different bloody hemispheres, into one eye-rolling package.
Haha, really happy to hear a Goa'Uld reference here (even if it was mispronounced, though not a big deal). Makes me wonder, did you see the TV show Stargate, or just the movie (or thinking about it, SFDebris' reviews)? My hope you saw or plan to see the show, it's great stuff and I think you'd enjoy it.

On this day 21 years ago, Power Rangers Zeo aired on Fox Kids. The day before my 11th birthday. Good times. I was really excited for Zeo and I still enjoy it.
I never liked how Billy said “Tanya I’m giving my crystal to you” like have a seat Billy!!! That was Aishas crystal not yours
That line needed to be changed, cuz it wasnt so much Billy giving Tanya his crystal, he was giving her HIS spot on the team.
14:38- I know many saw Adam and Tanya as more close* but still. Hell, even Kat and Jason would've not only been better (as showcased in the Gasket and Archerina portion of the season) but a roll reverse of Tommy and Kimberly circa S1 and first 20 of S2 pre -White Light in a sense.
Looking back at the idiotic choice a forced TomKat ship, its easy to declare the bizarre laziness of Jonathan Tzachor was always there; it just kept popping up like a groundhog once a fortnight until Lightspeed Rescue when it started showing more whether we had gotten Titanium Ranger or not. Though one can easily cite Turbo's first half as strongest example

kory stephens The sheer laziness shows in "Hawaii Zeo" the episode is practically a copy of "The Green Candle Part 1". They have Tommy acting the same, the problem is that was season 1, this is now season 4. It came off immature and awkward in a bad way. Jason and Katherine would have been good, the had far more similar personalities and Jason`s presence didn't eclipse Kat. Tommy`s always did, she always seemed to be made to play the damsel or supportive presence. She didn't quite have the presence or attitude, like Kimberly, to be a true equal with Tommy. They didn't allow her to reach that development. Tanya is seen as the background girl, compared to Katherine, but Tanya had better focus and story. Until Turbo all Katherine didn't have real story of substance. You know after MMPR they never brought up her evil past. Wasted potential story.
***** Wasn't help that Ohranger's OhPink was rendered as effective as Susan of classic Doctor Who and Jetman's Kaori early on in uselessness to where a drinking game out of ankle twisting is well in order

I remember as a kid, when I first saw the Gold Ranger, I immediately recognized his voice to be that of Brad Hawkins from VR Troopers, so I knew even then that Billy couldn't be the Gold Ranger, despite his coincidental disappearances. And when the same thing started happening to other characters, I used to think that the Gold Ranger wasn't any one person, but some kind of entity that needed to posses people in order to fight the antagonists. Wouldn't that make for an interesting twist?

A very underrated but awesome season. Best episode was the last one Good As Gold. Loved that Tanga/Cog fight. I wish Linkara would have mentioned that the Tangas technically WON that since they still had that 1 tanga left standing.
I also loved Bulk and Skull not only in the King For A Day two-parter but that episode where they had to take that test and thought the monster attack was part of the test and they passed because they got bonus points for that. So Bulk and Skull LOL!
I remember those minis. They'd end with "IT'S COMING!" with music and space graphics.

A couples of days ago, when I was coming home to take a brief break from work, I was planning on watching one of the copied uploads of the original version of this. When I turned my TV one, the first thing I saw was this video having just been uploaded.

I can't remember if you mentioned this in your original video or if it just aired in NY but I remember there being 5 commercials for hyping up Zeo that included colored lasers carving out the shapes of each ranger's helmet to the music of what would be the open theme with the singers only saying "You've got to see it. It's coming" which climaxed the minute before the series premiered mashing them all together and then ending with a great crescendo and the singers exclaim "Unleashing the Power of Zeo"

I’ll admit, the “no more Power Rangers“ chant of sorts that Rita and Zedd were singing, is kind of catchy.
Zeo was My Favorite HOPR that you did. The improvements are good and I very much enjoyed it.
The thing about Tommy and Kat is that the writers could have made it work as a relationship between two people who experienced similar traumas and hardships and are working together in order to make themselves better. I know that Kim and Billy have also been mind-controlled by Rita and Zedd, but Kat and Tommy's was different from theirs due to being longer. They could have bonded over it, forming a relationship that turns romantic over time. I'm just saying it could have worked, but the writers made it bland and didn't utilize the plotlines that had been created with these characters. And this is coming from someone who multiships both TomKat & Tomberly.
I will also say that, given recent events regarding Kim's sport, the breakup seems harsher in hindsight than the writers could have ever intended in 1996. I know, Power Rangers doesn't always reflect the real world similarly to Marvel & DC. But given a certain scandal that came out of gymnastics from around the 90s, it makes me think that Kim might have been lying about what really caused her to break up with Tommy.

Anyone notice that the shapes on the visors have sides corresponding to the Rangers number? Zeo ranger 1: a circle. Zeo ranger 2 two circles. Zeo ranger 3: a triangle. Zeo ranger 4, a rectangle, and Zeo ranger 5: a star. That's brilliant on the power rangers staff part to assign them numbers for that.
Glad to see this coming back. I was actually feeling nostalgic for these videos coming out at Christmas. Yes you've managed to ingrain HOPR as part of my Christmas tradition now. So I recently went back and rewatched the reviews for Mega force, Samurai, and Mystic Force.
I think it's awesome that you are re-editing these but, I'll have to come back when part 2 is out or, it will drive me crazy.
I'm glad they switched tommy and Rocky's colours because nothing against rocky but he just didn't come off as the red ranger that much to me tommy was more of a leader he went to Rita and zedd's palace to get the zeo crystal and rocky didn't even tag along see when Jason was still the red ranger and tommy was the white and green ranger I could still tell Jason was the red ranger
Rocky was no Jason far as Leader goes, but he wasn't a bad leader honestly! There was more than a few occasions he saved the rest of the team singlehandedly. Even as Zeo blue he was still basically a leader on his own.
I honestly like these re releases,thanks Linkara.Also,my theory is that the Aquitar Rangers took the Shogun zords and that the Ninja zords are still in Ninjor's hands.
A lil fun fact: the zeo shapes on the helmet actually show the numbers of the hero
Pink ranger = 1 circle
Yellow ranger = 2 lines
Blue ranger = triangle w/3 sides
Green rangers = rectangle w/4 sides
Red ranger =star 5 edges
Gold ranger = 6 lines witch may look like 2 E with 1 of it backwards

Fun fact: Kat and Tommy in canon do have a son who gets a comic tie in where his becomes the new SPD Green Ranger.
FYI: the reason for the shapes, I'm sure the majority have figures it out, is to reflect the number of ranger that they are. This applies to all rangers including the Gold. For example, the 5 point star for Zeo Ranger 5, the triangle for the Zeo Ranger 3, the circle, being 1 sided, for Zeo ranger 1, etc, etc.

re: the misconceptions about Ohranger and Carranger (as brought to my attention in Des Shinta's intro to his Ohranger review posting this month as well).
1) The Kobe Earthquake at the start of 1995 and a terrorist attack a month after the show premiered caused Toei to play the executive meddling card in turning the tone from what was originally intended to be Chojin Sentai (Winged Squadron) Jetman mk2 into turning the comedy and fantasy elements that plagued Zyuranger, Dairanger and even Kakuranger (though midway it went from camp to dark but not another Jetman) and the ratings never recovered as a result.
2) Carranger's ratings were as bad as Ohranger's and sold less toys than it. In 1996 alone, Ultraman Tiga and Juuko B Fighters and B Fighters Kabuto (or as we know the footages now here as Beetleborgs and Beetleborgs Metallix) had higher ratings than Carranger and the one sentai season that truly help rebound the franchise (much like with PR) is Megaranger so that and In Space have more in common than you think.
Zeo is my favourite power rangers series along with In Space and Wild Force
I always assumed that the Ninjazords do exist, but there is no way to activate them,
as for the Shogunzords, I always assumed they DO exist and are tied directly to the morphing grid, but nobody has used them for whatever reason
Did anyone else come to the simple question of, "When Rita and Zedd were escaping, why didn't they simply go wherever Zedd came from before he assumed Rita's job?" I mean, clearly things there are under control if he came to earth.

Not gonna lie... when they revealed Jason, I got excited. He was my favorite Ranger.
The comics touched on the Dear John letter Kimberly sent Tommy. A storyline revealed that there was no one else. Kimberly broke up with Tommy because of the long distance between them
Which is even dumber because it was set in a more modern time and has a smartphone.
Plus the continuity between the comics and the series is debatable to say the least. Some elements from the comics did work their way into the series other elements not so much. So it depends on if that bit is canon or not.

I like to think that the zeo zords where either in production during season 2, given their animal theme. Or they are infact rebuilt from the destroyed thunderzords. Given the fact that while they where rendered inoperable the zords came apart in relatively whole chunks. Meaning that even if they wheren't tied to the now damaged power coins they would atleast be useable for parts.
Similarly i like to think the shogun zords, where actually sent to Aquitar. Given that the alien rangers could use them and they wheren't tied down to any given team. as for the ninja zords, while i won't say they where destroyed, they where likely rendered unuseable without the ninja power coins, likely ninjor was left to recreate the coins which is why we didn't hear of or from him during the following seasons, as we don't know just how long it takes to make those coins.

I like to think the Golden Power Staff predated the ZeoCrystal and might even have been used in it's creation. It's not canon but would be pretty cool if it was.

The Champ no she wasn't. Her backstory had Rita brainwashing her as a human. Turning into a cat was an ability Rita gave her for espionage purposes.

Despite Zeo’s crappy series ending, it was my all time favorite of them all. Those powers in theory remain intact.
On another note, I remember when ABC Family was airing Best of Power Rangers during Wild Force's run that I was intrigued by Zeo but never got to see any episodes aside from the finale. Upon looking at it on Netflix years later, I wasn’t too impressed finding it a step downward from Season 3. Doug Sloan was good at establishing story and plot points, but he wasn’t too good at defining standout character traits like Judd Lynn would do later. Hate to say it, by I think I prefer Turbo slightly more (the back half) than I do the entirety of Zeo. JMO.
I didn’t really like this season when it aired in 96 (I was 10 at the time) I re-watched it at 18 in 2004 and between this, in space, lost Galaxy, time force and wild force they’ve all become my favourite seasons even though I’ve been with the show on and off since the beginning.
For me personally this is both Catherine Sutherland and Steve Cardenas’ best seasons in my opinion.
It’s kind of funny to think that Catherine Sutherland was going to be Delcea Power rangers the movie but she was too young at the time.
The only thing I really didn’t like about this season was the “final episode” involving people’s religious beliefs/traditions as the episode just felt out of place in terms of who the machine empire was and is.
