Hi everybody !
I, and the Aquarium des Lagons team, wish to thank you all for all your positives comments ! It's so comforting and motivating ! Gave us strength for the future, with the goal of still improving our displays...
We are lucky enough to be a semi-open running system. We pump the sea water next to our aquarium, having 2 initial sand filters and drum filter filtering to 40 microns. Then, this 'new water' is distributed to our systems by gravity, with a renewal rate of maximum one time a day to one time a week depending on our systems, populations or volumes.
Each reef tank has additional filtrations systems, basically sand filters (from 1 to 5 by tank depending on volume), semi-humid biological filtration and protein skimmer. We then could run our systems in absolute closed systems if needed (e.g., bad weather conditions, pollution, hurricanes, etc.). Water changes are then on a small "automatic" base during the day by the new sea water providing, and "a bit more" when back-washing our sand filters (from one time a day to 2 times a week depending on tanks).
Light consists in a mix of 400W HQI, Leds, and a bit of natural light too.
We also add lime water by night, but at that time of our story, no other additions are made.
We aim at reproducing habitats, so both our fish and invert populations are as representative as possible of natural reefs. Each tank also have its own population of crustaceans, mollusks, echinoderms, etc.
Finally, all this gave us the ability of feeding a lot our tanks. Of course the fishes, but also corals with a daily mix of phyto and zooplankton (5 different auto produced algae, rotifers, and brine shrimps).
I hope this gave a few answers...
Many thanks again !
Was at the Noumea Aquarium on Sunday. Fantastic aquarium loved visiting all the exhibits!
This has got to be the greatest most unknown and remote public aquarium in the world! I certainly had no idea of its existence, but now I am adding it to my travel bucket list ! Thank you for sharing!
We went there yesterday, off a P&O cruise. Best aquarium we've ever been to, it's HUGE!!!
I really wouldn't have expected New Caledonia to have that high quality of an aquarium. For some reason this really moves it up my list of places to visit!
brings back great memories of this amazing aquarium. thanks for sharing
Man those first couple tanks were the tide comes in and out changing the water hight is simply amazing. I would have never thought of that, and it’s so natural. 👍🏻
Really enjoyed this video tour. Hopefully we get to visit there one day too! Loved it
All the displays that you shared were amazing. The reefs were so well thought out and diverse. And to think the corals were just replanted and there is so much that can be added.
Thanks for sharing! I really enjoyed the natural look of these displays, such a cool place. That thicklip wrasse is something else!
The tank with the oldest coral is the most natural looking reefscape ive ever seen. It really looks like a section of reef, the placement of the corals and selection of fish is so authentic 💕
It couldn’t be more realistic! It is hard to believe that it is less than a year old. The oldest coral is especially amazing as it grew there. They didn’t remove a large coral from a reef! I wish I was 50 years younger. New Caledonia has always been a place I wanted to visit. Having seen this aquarium, it makes me want to travel again!
Awesome content Jake and the rest of the crew! Keep it up, love to see it! 👍
Many public aquariums that understand the importance of the quality of light are still using metal halides because of the safe great intensity and mainly because of the rich spectrum. That is a really nice Aquarium. One of the best in the world! I enjoyed this video a lot! Well done!!!!!!!!!!!!
This was amazing. I would love to check this out one day. The low tide and high tide mangrove setup look so cool. Thanks Jake!
Those nautilus babies are so cute! The giant reef tanks also show how a lot of corals we keep in the hobby will display a completely different growth form if you give them time and space for them to get huge.
The nautilus and sea snakes are amazing. I would love to visit this aquarium for them alone.
I'd love to see some more of your private tours of public aquariums !!
An incredible exhibit that I did not even know existed. Adding this one to my bucket list. Thanks Jake!
15minutes in, that tank is the dream. So natural, loads of points of interest. Wow
absolutely incredible. New Caledonia is still a unique biological gem despite all the human-caused extinctions there over the past few thousand years, of lineages like Meiolania or Mekosuchus
One of my favorite places to visit - Public Aquariums. This one is fantastic! When I lived in Maui my apartment was across from the Maui Ocean Center and the Aquarium des Lagons has much better reef tanks. I'm impressed!
Great video Jake, Happy to have been part of your experience in New Caledonia !!!! Keep up the great work!
Thank you for being our virtual tour guide!
So beautiful aquatium. following thanks for sharing!
probably the most enjoyable video i have watched in a long time on youtube. keep them coming :)
Impressive to watch the seize of the tank 🎥
Wow :) Thank you for sharing! Love the Moorish Idol group 💗 So Peaceful and Breathtaking. I’m a reef fish 🐠 lover but oh my the corals are just incredible. Everything is so surreal and beautiful.😍 Thank You, Enjoy:)
Quality and unique content like this is why Reef Builders is the best. Oh and Jake, Jake is a great content presenter. :)
The reef tanks are so tasteful and naturalistic. It looks like it grew on its own instead of the manicured frag collection that many reef tanks can become! It's easier to do so when the tank is so big though, lol.
Wow what an awesome place! Love the nautilis! And the breeding too!!! 😲 The mullet are called square tail mullet I believe also I believe I saw a Picasso trigger on the right hand side of the vid .....Regardless, amazing place and ty for sharing!
I was there two years ago. It’s changed so much.
Repose en Paix Jake. We'll miss you a lot, including your french. You'll stay in my memories.
Super cool place thanks for the video 👍
Great video, well spoken!
Amazing. Thanks for sharing.
Amazing! Thank you for sharing! No behind the scenes videos? With the filtration?
Love those Coscinaraea Columna! Such a unique shape compared to everything else.
I went there when my cruise ship docked in New Caledonia. Spent waaay longer there than first planned, it was awesome!
I hope you publish your diving footage😉
Beautiful tanks this could have been 2 hours. Those moorish idols were amazing
aww baby nautilus...!! so adorable
Rip you Jake! You sure were a great friend!
Mangrove exhibits with tidal swells #goals
I’d love to have a linear 40 foot long display semi connected habitat from inshore to reef crest to drop off lol
Of course partially illuminated by the sun
Merci pour cette visite virtuelle .. c'est trop beau...👍/.. à visiter for sure..its soo cool it remindes me of aquarium in boulogne sur mer

@@ReefBuildersVideo I will most probably participate! thanks for sharing !!!!!!!
A school of femininus wrasse with sharks lol, love it
Finally a new video. Man we need a new therapy session
Metal halide and natural sunlight. All the reef wants and needs.
What an amazing tour, of course the oldest coral in captivity would be a hollywood stunner.
of course it would be!
Just wow.
Very very nice
Nice video Jake!
13:47 I thought coscinaraea columna was reclassified as psammocora columna?
Yeah I'm not convinced but calling it Psammocora would be confusing since so few people know about that change, but you're correct
Awesome 👍
I'd like to know what a water change looks like on the big reef tank.
Nice video
That’s amazing
Sad news R.I.P. Jake Adams
Shooting from the hip but the nautilus looks like it would belong to the cephalopod family but it has a hard shell?? Ive never heard of or seen one till now, just my speculation.
Magnificent moorish idols and butterflyfish
Jake you should come see Toledo Zoo in ohio's aquarium!! It would be a great video and I think you'd enjoy the aquarium... and the exhibits through out the zoo!!
Well I think Joey King Of DIY needs to come build a 4000 gallon reef aquarium in the reef builders studio with Jake. So Jake can have those silver fish and those cute mullets!!!!!💗🐟🐟🐟🐟🐟
I love silver fish (in someone else's tank)
Why the fourteen year-old’s backward cap on such a potentionally interesting and informative video? Men: accept your age!
what about the tech behind the aquarium, thats just as interesting
dans fish has the best selection of gobies in the states hands down. you will find his setup interesting its like none other
I have seen that Dan has a wide range of stiphodon gobies including one new caledonia species
@@ReefBuildersVideo I think on steenfott aquatics channel I seen he has many more that aren't for sale yet it's a two hr video but some amazing fish
I don't like this video/aquarium, I love it! Too bad it's a little bit too far from Europe. Have a nice stay in New Caledonia Jake!
The nautilus babies are grate but what is the purpose as I'm just really hoping they will be either released or given to no one other then other aquariums able to house them due to what they are.
My partner loves watching you and I just wanted to ask this myself as they are amazing animals
The nautilus offspring are used to research the biology of these animals and shared with other public aquariums that know how to care for them
Could you put Portuguese subtitles in your videos?
Baby Nautali....!!!!!
The camera swaying back and forth is a bit much to take
Hi Jake Welcome !!! i live here in New Caledonia, i am passionate about marine biology and corals, so if you stay a few days here i can offer you a scuba diving (free of course) in our lagoon! tell me if you are interested.Have a good time here !
lol, où étiez-vous il y a quelques semaines ?
@@ReefBuildersVideo Sous l'eau comme toujours 😅
Why do they number the nautilus?
To keep track of who is who and when they were born.
I kind of … I really wanna clean the glass from inside ✋
Apparently jake passed away? Is this true
it is 🥲
😁🤘
😳🤗💙
