    *Well-made, delivered quickly, and easy to install with **Fastly.Cool** . I may be imagining it, but it seems quieter than the 14 year-old unit that I pulled out. Of course it was noisy at the end due to failed bearings, so hard to compare.*

    These instructions were spot on. Two adds I recommend. For acrylic or plexiglass hatches use Sikiflex 295 UV or Dow 795 sealant. The professionals will tell you these are the only two that stock over a long period. The video comment about new hole saws is not overstated. They really bite. Once I had a groove going with the hole saw I drilled 10 holes into the groove around the circumference with a 3/32” drill. This gives the hole saw less solid material to bite on and made the job much easier. In a pinch u could use a ⅛” drill too but be careful not to drill outside the hole saw groove

      Thanks for the comments! We use the Dow 795 sealant on all our plexi needs. Thanks for the tip on the hole saw. Drilling the holes probably would help tremendously !

    Was going great, especially with the idea of using a blowtorch to melt the plastic around the hole so it won't crack. However - even MARINCO advised NOT to use those metal screws to hold the unit in place on a hatch, because of the danger of cracking the plexiglas! Also, why didn't the video show what to do with the included smaller gasket, the one with the 4 3/4" hole? It either is attached to the bottom of the solar housing, or it's used to prevent water intrusion around the hole, yet you didn't even use it at all in the video before screwing the plate down. Also, WARNING to anyone replacing one of the older NICRO models of Marinco day/night vents: on the older models, you attached the round plate to the INSIDE of the hatch, whereas this one you attach to the outside of the hatch. Big difference, because the unit won't drop flush with the top of the hatch if you install the plate the wrong side. The directions that come with the new Marinco vents are atrocious; they don't even show you a diagram of how to assemble the unit properly!

      Hey Frank,
      We pre drilled the holes for the screws which is standard practice and fine for any install medium be it plexiglass, grp, wood or metal. It's been a few years and we haven't had any cracking or crazing. We didn't use that gasket because we used DOW 795 sealant under the base plate which is described in the video text. This is a better deal than the gasket that is supplied.
      Hope this helps clear anything up,
      Ronnie

    Hey Ronnie and Michelle. I'm looking for background on someone who crewed for you a couple years ago. Considering him for a transatlantic crossing. How do I contact you directly?

    Nice install video. I just put one in my 24’ boat. Hopefully it is adequate enough.
    Does yours make any noise? Can you feel the air coming in? Mine make a little whirring sound and has just a little bit of air passing through when set to pull air in. Guessing this is just a subtle fan, not like a house fan?
    Cheers!

      @sailredemption6373  2 года назад

      Hey! Thanks, glad the video helped with your install!
      Ours made minimal noise like a louder computer fan. We needed up accidentally slammed the hatch down and it caused a wire to come loose. When that happened the fan blades would hit the wire slightly making a ticking sounds which was annoying. But yea it's a subtle fan, your not going to cool off standing underneath it 😅

    Solar vent , I live in a hot country and looking to ventilate my small garage , 3mtr x 3mtr , Brick built , as there’s a water pump in it , would a solar vent work ?
    Nice video 👍🏼

      Thank you! I don't see how it wouldn't help out. Even a non powered vent would help let the heat out of a garage. I'd say give it a shot!

    Really like what you've done so far. Kaufman 47 is a great boat. Where did you go? The blog and this channel have stopped. Praying you're out sailing the seas. Please PM I have some questions about the boat and the current progress, maybe a proposal to consider.

      Thanks for the prayersTim! Yes, the Kaufman is a great sailboat! We have been busy sailing around and work. Obviously, the pandemic kept us from the Bahamas for some months but we were finally able to get a friend to fly us over to our boat and we sailed it up to the Chesapeake. I'll send you a DM momentarily.

    Will this product snag jib sheets if mounted forward of the mast on a hatch?

    • @ronniej6911
      @ronniej6911 3 года назад +1

      I believe it could. There's a half inch gap between the flush ring and the chrome dome part that a line could get under. If you have bigger sheets then it could be reduced I imagine.

    Happy with this make/model of vent?

    • @ronniej6911

      Hey Robert, we are but be care with them. I let the hatch down too fast and the hatch bang and it caused the fan blades to catch a wire that goes from the panel to the fan motor. Not a hard fix but it happened to me. Not sure if they all do that or not, but either way we think it does its job well. We have ours set to extract air and our dorades bring air in so the cabin stays pretty fresh.

    I've an existing older model nicro 4" solar vent that needed replacing. Will this new model 4" marinco fit into the old hole? Any idea?

    • @ronniej6911
      @ronniej6911 4 года назад

      I believe so. I think Marinco bought Nicro or least they rebrand the Nicro. So I believe the two model Nicros are identical to the two Marinco versions.

    is it the same process for installation on a fiberglass forward hatch? has old boat..

    • @sailredemption6373
      @sailredemption6373  4 года назад

      I'm sure it would be. I think I would use machine screws instead of the wood type screws. Tap the hatch glass and then install.

    Does this unit only vent air in or can it be used to exhaust air out?

    • @ronniej6911
      @ronniej6911 2 года назад

      Hey Kolby, it does both directions so it will function both exhaust and intake. Best if you had two to help with that type of circulation.

    • @sailredemption6373

      Hey, with glass I'm not sure that will work. You could try bringing it to a local glass and window shop and see what they can do with them.

    Curious how loud this fan is?

    • @sailredemption6373
      @sailredemption6373  4 года назад

      It's almost inaudible when it's running. If it's on a boat, water hitting the hull or a regular Caframo fan is louder.

      Just bought my first boat yesterday. It’s an older sea ray 20 something foot cubby cabin. So when your sitting in there, the hatch it like 10” above your head.

    • @sailredemption6373
      @sailredemption6373  4 года назад

      @@Briannafamily1418 I got ya. Well congrats on the new boat! Yea I don't think it will be that bad. It's really a hum more than anything. It's not made to cool you off, more to just circulate air in the boat to keep it fresh. When I get a chance I'll try to upload a short video of it running.
