Survival On Purpose. As a handicapped now disabled with a life time of adapting On Purpose has much meaning. Boy do I enjoy your video reviews! While I can handle this hatchet I am putting together gear for one 4'8" and my disabilities. The lesser hatchet I chose has 11/16th nut hole I am going to use with a sealed flanged miniature bearing and add a bolt w/sharpened point long enough to press into a stick. Purpose? Friction fire starting! Simply tap the bearing with bolt point in and place the hatchet 11/16 hole over the bolt/bearing assembly, entire palm pressing utilizing the flat hatchet surface and spin away with the bow string setup. If needed get a long branch and tie a cord around the hatchet handle and branch to utilize for increased stability in any way one can. lol as You know Brian it might not work but I'm going to find out. Survival On Purpose!
Good review, Bryan. I have several hatchets and axes but my two favorites are the Marble camp axe and the Cold Steel Trail Boss. I paid $35 for the Marble axe and about the same amount for a leather sheath and handle guard. It took a file and a puck to sharpen the blade to my satisfaction (a year ago) and just use of the puck twice since then. I use it constantly to chop wood for my backyard fire pit where I barbecue or just lie in my hammock and enjoy a good camp fire.
That is nice, yeah its a bit on the pricey side but hey, Elmax steel, super sharp, heavy enough to do serious cutting AND a decent sheath as well. Yeah, that's going on my list of things to buy! Never even heard of this company until now. Thanks!
Finally!!! I’ve been waiting for a good review vid on this tool!! Now you can get different color scales too!! First edge is worth every dollar bar none!!!
I love it! However I’ll stick with my Gransfor Bruk Jonaker Hans hatchet! However my experience is you get what you pay for and I’d pay 200.00 for the quality this tool demonstrates. Dr. David
THAT is a very capable hatchet. Peo must love it as it's already sold out. Thanks my friend for the heads up, I like it n it seems much bettetmthat the early awaited but ultimately OVERPRICED tops hatchet. This seem worth the money.
Another great review of a great tool. Thanks. I do have to say though that $200 is a bit steep, at least it is for me. I could buy 10 Scaxe 10's with that much money and I loves me my Scaxe 10, it has never let me down or anyone that I've bought it for since I found out what a jewel it is after watching your review on it. Or I could buy eight of the Scaxe 10/machete combo's and have eight good hatchets and eight so-so knives, that would be enough to last me the rest of my life and probably still have all of them to leave for my kids. I'm not knocking this hatchet, it's clearly a high quality tool and if $200 was a drop in the bucket for me I'd buy one right now.
Brian, if you carry a Leatherman, try using the back of the saw on your fero rods. It's what I use and I always have it with me. Try end grain of the wood for your next target.
I like the simplicity of the design. I would have liked to see more of a hammer style handle, as oppose to a knife style handle. The price, as much as I'm sure it's worth it is beyond my budget.
Not sure how I missed this video. I like the hatchet. At first glance the price seems high but after looking at other premium axes, some of which go or. much as $700, this looks much more reasonable.
Well done friend...regardless of the steel, that is pretty pricey for a tool that will be less effective than any small pack hatchet and at 4 lbs!... so I that one isn't for me. Yes it's cool but the gear market has gone insane! There are definitely quality differences between say Condor axes and GFBs, with Husqvarna and Hultafors being VERY high quality at reasonable prices. All that said, I don't prefer axes so I'll stick with my Junglas . At 19 or so oz. paired with a folding saw , I have all bases covered when I go out "survivng". Thanx for the excellent review and the pickin'.
You actually said it was 1.94 lbs.......heavy emphasis on the FOUR, so thats what I heard. In fact with the CC on it actually reads "1.9 FOUR lbs" My mistake friend.
some might consider Elmax steel well OTT for a 'simple' hatchet but I'm sure it will appeal to some, you know those who have a titanium key ring tube containing titanium toothpicks( yes they do exist) kevlar boot laces, anti magnetic waterproof to 1000 metres watches, the list of OMG frippery goes on and on,but, you know the kind of people i mean, carry on my man fight the good fight and 'pro illegitamo carborundum' Bill
That thing is laser sharp! I don't know if I would pay that much for a tool that I don't use frequently, but if I used it every day I probably would pay that price for a high quality tool such as this. Don't buy cheap (made) tools or you will buy it more than once.
I have a very nasty scar on my left thumb from a hatchet just about this size. I was a kid building myself a log cabin. The hatchet skipped while I was making notches in my logs and darn near cut my thumb off. So part of this video made me as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
Who needs a knife?... Seriously, that was crazy ,scary sharp -it was scaring me to see that chopping you did, have seen what a sharp edge can do, also still have a thirty year scar on my thumb. If you look close, that steel did spark, though not much. If this is for military use likely they are training to use the edge (you wouldn't on softer steels) to spark a ferro rod. Still, file on the back , it will do everything.
I think you need to send your little friend Pepy La Pew down to the old stump top and have him go over it with his tail a few times to clear away all that debris. That is a real work horse of a hatchet Bryan nut I think the price will put most people off. That's a lot of Elmax though hence the price. ATB Doug.
This was a good review. I like this Hatchet a lot but the price point is just too high for me. Wanted one of these ever since I saw that movie based on the book The Hatchet when I was a kid. I think the movie was called A cry in the wild. Hope someday I find one in my price range.
Bryan I'll bet that pokey thing on the end is what makes that hatchet so expensive lol. I'm missing your music videos. When are you going to post some more ? God Bless my pal.
Survival On Purpose Dont get me wrong, you have great vids and presentations. But, $200 bucks is not worth it unless your income is high enough to afford such a tool. What's next a $1,000 Back pack $300 knife $200 neck knife And so on

Sounds like a good idea
Your hand that close to that beast had me nervous too. Stay safe and be well!
Me too
I'm sure there are a lot of folks that has the budget to afford one of these...I'm not one of those people so I will stick with my 35 dollar Estwing.
Different strokes...
Tough to beat a Estwing, mine's never failed me. Right there with you on this one.
Fiskars x7 is my hatchet of choice
Jay Valere Great choice
I've had an Estwing about 30 years now, still does just fine.

They make excellent blades

Appearances are a tricky thing , at first glance I would walk right past that but your vid showed that it's a solid tool !
It is indeed
THAT is a very capable hatchet. Peo must love it as it's already sold out. Thanks my friend for the heads up, I like it n it seems much bettetmthat the early awaited but ultimately OVERPRICED tops hatchet. This seem worth the money.
It gets the job done

The SCAXE10 is a great little hatchet
It looks nice but lol lol 200.00 for what why my eastwing looks better and better and I thought it was A lot good vid very informational
Thanks. I appreciate it.

It is just a pain in the neck to make an end grain target
Very nice! Way out of my budget for a pack axe but it's cool!
It is cool indeed
Thanks Bryan
Thanks for watching.

Plus it's fun to throw
Always enjoy your videos brother🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Love my First Edge assisted open knife I bought on your promotion.
So do I
Brian Binns nice, that's a cool tool. Want one👍
I had to laugh,”that old metric system”? Haha.
You guys still use Imperial System! “Archaic”!
I love their knives and your reviews.
Thanks. Oh, by the way, whose footprints are on the moon? ;-)
Survival On Purpose , we use the same shoe size here in Australia. I’m not sure about the moon reference?
nice hatchet. looks very much like my vintage western hatchet:)from the 50's and it weighs 15 oz
very cool. I like vintage
I like your testing techniques-thanks !
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Nice touch with that "Blue's Clues" throwback Mr. Brian👍
;-)
Very nice. Awesome edge!
Cheers !
Indeed
Thanks for sharing, 1st edge is quality stuff! God bless
yes they are

Just another choice. But it is just under 2 lbs. Did I say 4? If so it was a goof

Indeed.
Good video Brian.... I think it must be the "pokey" thing that makes it worth the price, LOL
;-)

I was pretty impressed with it Myself
What about sharpening the area between the lanyard hole and the striking point for the ferro rod.
work
Nice axe! I really like how it’s made in the USA. That probably makes it kinda expensive. How much is it?
About $200 and, as far as I can tell, First Edge is out of business so the warranty is probably no good.
Umm Hmm Sweet lil Hatchet Im liking that Pokey Thing too Thanks, Bryan !
;-) Thanks terry
I like it. Needs a longer handle
It is supposed to be compact
Good video and nice axe.
Thanks. I appreciate it.
Brian, we have never seen a knife you didn't like. Me too.
Not many
great hatchet!
greetings from cologne, germany
arthur
Hi Arthur
Daing. Need to look back. Had some EQ upgrading for days.
;-)
Hey, how ya doin? does that have a 90° edge at the end of the handle, like the MSK does for ferro rod?
Not that I can tell
I still like my Farson Hatchet ;-)
Yeah, it just didn't really do it for me. I like the Farson but it is a little light for chopping

The hatchet skipped while I was making notches in my logs and darn near cut my thumb off. So part of this video made me as nervous as a long tail cat in a room full of rocking chairs.
I was a little "edgy" myself
some johnny winter there i here, dont forget about the van u get man:)
'
I thought of you when I added that guitar track
Nice, a little pricey, would work especially in a survival situation once you get to strike enough sparks for a 🔥
I agree

It's probably not for military use.
Then 90 degree spine will work. Good video, with Elmax you can't miss!
Another early morning upload
Actually, another pre-scheduled video ;-)

It does work pretty well

There are many
Bryan I'll bet that pokey thing on the end is what makes that hatchet so expensive lol. I'm missing your music videos. When are you going to post some more ? God Bless my pal.
soon I hope
We just figured out Blue's Clues.
;-)
$190.00.
And out of stock on Amazon.
Bummer
Can i get a shout out??
Nice hatchet but that price omg. I'll pass.
Not for everyone
That thing looks like a Christmas stocking
Ho Ho Ho
Isn't that finger to close to the edge??? Feathersticking, you can get a splinter easy...
Not so far
No way, I'd have to think twice if it was $20.00
Different strokes...
You lost me at $200
Different strokes...
Survival On Purpose
Dont get me wrong, you have great vids and presentations.
But,
$200 bucks is not worth it unless your income is high enough to afford such a tool.
What's next a $1,000
Back pack
$300 knife
$200 neck knife
And so on
Wasn't the last B.O.A.R.D taken out by a Smith and Wesson tomahawk?
I think so
Gotta wonder why it is so expensive.
High end steel, US skilled labor, maybe even California taxes and fees.
