it is a Historical Fiction basically the empires shown and the people have shown actually lived but the storyline was changed drastically according to the Writer's wish, for example, the Mahishmati Empire was actually based on the Satavahana's empire which actually existed in India (The southern part of India current day Maharastra to Andhra Pradesh) but in reality, the empire lost to the Kalakiya Empire (Barbarians in the Movie) then it took like 50 years for them to recover the Empire back. which actually when 5 Empires joined together to get rid of the Barbarians in India. that is why it is called Historical Fiction in the Movie but it is shown as if the Empire won against the Barbarians.
