I bought two un-neutered boar's for my daughter. They were babies and had always been together. They are now about 3 years old. They may have a little tussle now and again but they love each other. They love to lay near each other and try to get to each other when my daughter and I have one each on our laps. I adore them!! My daughter wants to add to them but I think we might be disappointed. Particularly as they are not neutered!!
Neutering them does not really make a difference to their personalities, neutered males do not get along better than non neutered males, they will get on the same but a neutered Boar can live with Sows, you can't add a Sow with 2 neutered Boars as the Boars will fight, you can get a separate enclosure with 2 Boars if you wanted

Great video!! I agree with you about boys being more friendly and having a personality that is easier for us humans to bond with. I have had a couple of girls that were very sweet and loved cuddles. I have 2 brothers that I adopted this summer. They are 2 years old and have been together since birth. They get along wonderfully!
I got a pair of bonded boars as my first pair and within a month they had a massive fight. I will say though, one of them bonded with *me* really quickly. He is my baby, and lets me stroke him while he's relaxing in the enclosure, while the two females I got to join him later when his neutering op was safely over barely let me touch them lol. Looking forward to see how your herd grows as time goes on though! I'm sure Nacho will be a good influence :)

We have had two boars for 2.5 years, and very slowly introduced a third, a baby, a few months ago. I knew my pigs would likely adapt and they have done beautifully, thank God!! But I have to make sure they have ample space with open hides (so they can easily escape each other) and lots of different food and water areas so that no one can dominate the food and water. I absolutely love your channel ❤ just wanted to say that first. I plan on getting Guinea pigs for the first time ever when I get the proper living space, and this video covered many of the questions I had. There is so much information out there and I’m glad you mentioned the part about boy Guinea pigs needing homes because from the little bit of research I’ve done they do sort of have that reputation of being more difficult to bond, but you addressed that reality with some optimism and ideas in your video so I’m making it a goal to include boy guinea pigs when the time comes. 😊 Thank you for your videos, they are so helpful and easy to follow (much of this thanks to your guinea pig supporting cast and their squeaks) 😂
My boy is the most confident pig, he’s sweet, kind, full of joy, always happy to be stroked and cuddled, always runs to see me, gives kisses etc. Boars are my favourites
We actually put an eleectric blanket under the guineas' cage to keep them warmer. There are other layers on top, don't worry, it is comfy. But one was picking on the other, so sadly, we did have to build another cage and separate them.
Totally agree about boys. I've pretty much always found they are big sooks but huge personalities. Laughed when you said girls could be divas 😂. One of my girls is actually called Diva for that very reason, but boy is she entertaining! 10:43
We love our pair of boars so much! I chose boars for all the reasons you mentioned, but also because I did not want to deal with the hormonal issues and other health problems the females tend to get as they age.
I have 3 boars. I didn’t know it wasn’t recommended when I got my 3rd boar and petshop didn’t tell me of course. They were all babies at the time and they get along just fine. Couple of months later they started showing a bit of anger towards each-other but when I doubled their cage size everything calmed down even more. It’s been almost 2 years and they are still bonded.
something the 2 neutered boars ive had have taught me is it seems nearly impossible to bond a boar who has been in a herd of ladies with any other male. Its like once they have a girlfriend they just don't want nothing to do with a boy ever again. our first neutered boar passed at 1yr because of a URI but we are attempting to de-girl our current one but its not going well. he is always immediately defensive when a boy is put in a neutral area with him. Also we found he also is anti-handicapped... what i mean is one of our 3 remaining ladies went deaf a year and a half ago and since then he straight up attacks her. because one of the other ladies is terminal we have decided not to try to make him fit with her and the neutral piggie because the deaf lady would be left alone when our terminal lady passes. As for ladies i found having a large herd is the easiest bonding I've had up to 12 ladies in a herd with and without a neutered boar and at those sizes "most" new ladies just fit in with no issues. while smaller groups they have a higher chance to not bond with everyone.
I got a pair of bonded male guinea pigs from our local SPCA. And then I got another male from the Humane Society and he lived on his own for a few weeks and then I tried bonding him with some guinea pigs at the local guinea pig rescue. We thought he had a good bond with one of them, but after a few days, it was clear he didn’t. However, seem to be very happy living side-by-side, as grid buddies.
looking forward to seeing the new cage! In hindsight, I definitely would have chosen neutered boars when i first got my boys. One passed so we got a local rescue boar but they never solidly bonded (never fought properly either but new pig v dominant still -even a year on, older piggy doesnt really acknowlege him), would have been easier with a girl(s)
I got two male guinea pigs one is a baby and the other is a full grow piggy, the baby is now a teen so some time he does try getting ontop on my grown piggy, those two absolutely love each other so if a take one out if the cage the other has to come or they'll squeak
I've generally found that males ( neutered!!!) and females live together very well! I had 2 adult males that absolutely adored eachother and then 2 that loved eachother at first but started fighting and we had to sadly separate them. Now I have a younger female and a youngish/ adult male who really get along
The boys are so hard to match - it’s really hard to guess their personalities. I have two boats who adore each other but I also got them together as babies so that made a big difference. I tried to add a third a week later and it was a disaster. They terrorized the new addition. I tried to pair him with a baby a month after that…nope! lol the new boy ended up being the most dominant of all four. One of the first two is really sweet and would’ve been a great match for piggle three if he wasn’t already paired with his brother - piggy three is also a sweetheart and he has major ptsd from the violence inflicted on him by the first two. I’ve even tried to mix up the pairs but it doesn’t work. The first two are together and always desperate to be with one another, the other two are in adjacent cages. I didn’t know boys are typically easier to bond with, though! So interesting! I’ve only ever had boys.
I had my dominant female guinea pig go after her cage mate, another female, just because I gave the cage mate a bath. Bath. The other cage mates were also upset, chirping and chittering teeth, it took 5 hours for it to subside!
Thanks for another great video. My two boars are going through a second dominance issue now that the younger one is 1.5 years old. I’m worried they won’t work it out. I’ve given them two of everything, trading out the litter tray for two hanging hay bags. I hope they figure it out and can stay together
My boars are definitely more outgoing and love attention and pets than my sows. Most of my groups are mixed gender of one neutered boar and one or more sows. One of my boys has 5 female cagemates.
Lots of time spent with them basically. I try handle them most days even if that's just a quick cuddle. Hand feeding is a great taming method, and I think the open cage set up helps too 😊 there are lots of taming videos on the channel!
I have three brothers, who are neutered and live together happily. I am always watching their behaviour, but three and a half years on, they still get on well.
I think a big part of having a herd of females (we have 6) is having a big cage! We have a huge cage and ours get along so well! Maybe we just got lucky? Lol
Currently using a Sony vlogging camera body (zv E10), which is great and films in 4K. I use a sigma 16mm F1.4 prime lens which is very nice, would definitely recommend!
If you adopt from a pet store (I did, I didn’t know about rescues for guinea pigs 🫠) the best advice I can give is STAND THERE AND WATCH THE PIGS FOR A BIT. I’d picked a ginger aby who seemed like he had a spark (and he does), and I’d considered a little black aby, but decided on an American who seemed livelier. Then the pigs all got startled, and instead of running into a closer hide in the corner, the little ginger I knew for sure I wanted ran across the cage to the tunnel where the black aby was by himself. I figured I knew I wanted the ginger, and if the ginger wanted the black aby, I’d get him instead of the American. A year later: they’re remarkably well bonded. No problems, despite puberty. They ANNOY each other but they don’t fight. The little ginger is in charge. I think they’re siblings based on how alike they look, but I’ll never know. 😂 I base the harmony on a few things: space, they’ve had 13.5sqft since they were about three months old; handling/care (they’ve only ever been cared for by me and my trusty guinea pig rodentologist hotelier); and the fact that I observed them. Theodore (the ginger) isn’t stupid. Running over to Percival (the black aby) was a choice based on a relationship. And listening to that meant I got the best two little guys. ❤ Thank you for sharing the boar love!
i have had two separate pairings of boars and they both wound up being incompatible. i wish i could have one big cage but i have to keep a divider up :( i'm considering getting each of my 3yo boys a few week old companion that way mine can be the dominant pigs while finally getting a cagemate
I've had good experiences with RSPCA, great with Neville's Nest and Milhaven. Cavy Corner is highly thought of but don't share who is current available for adoption. I think most in the UK are very good! ☺️
I have two male Guinea pigs who we have had for a year, we were thinking about adding another if we expand the cage but we're not sure if it would work, and if it did what guinea pig we should get?
It could work but it's a risk and you should definitely have a back up plan in case they need to live separately! A young boar might fit in in the beginning but you'll have to monitor them as he grows up 😊
We are about to add a baby as we have recently lost on of our boars that we had from babies. Am hoping it works out and my elder boy looks so down and depressed since his brother died.
I have two males I got them from a pet store because I could not found any rescues that had guinea pigs more cat and dogs . Both my my son 2 male guinea pigs. Don’t like each other but love the idea of having a friend . Do you think they may have a bond if I neutering them ? Only one year old . :)
Yes, you need to wrap them tightly in a pillowcase (towels can be too thick), make him/her into a burrito and support then with your left hand against your body, give the medication into the side of the month with a syringe, they may try spit it out at first. Offering some fresh lettuce or grass after can help it go down. My healthcare videos will help for this and other things you can do if they are feeling unwell ❤️
I BONDED A ADULTI MALE WITH A BABY MALE, AND THEY BONDED IMMEDIATELY THE NEXT DAY. IT IS EASIER TO BOND WHEN ONE IS OLDER THAN THE OTHER PIGGY. IT WORKS MUCH EASIER. THAN BONDING TWO ADULT MALES OR FEMALES. MARIA
Can you please talk us through the process of getting Nacho neutered. You worries and how you overcame them. I'm wanting to neuter one of my males who just lost his mate so he can live with .you girls but I'm too scared he won't make it through the anesthetic.
Hi Ruth I recommend watching the "Nacho gets neutered" vlog (from around June last year), this will answer some questions and let you know what to expect. I opted for the "abdominal" surgery rather than the testes option due to the much reduced chance of post op complications. Either way, finding a reliable exotics vets who is experienced with guinea pigs (and performs the op on a weekly if not daily basis) is the best thing you can do to put your mind at ease. Best of luck 💗
Hello, we currently have 2 amazing boys 9-10 months and we wanted to add a new one. From pet shop they told us that we cannot add one, we have to take 2 and keep them in a different cage. My worry is what if they don’t go well? Will I need to have a separate cage?
Guinea Pig boys are such sweethearts! But if in the future youre wanting a larger herd of 3 or more piggies, I wouldnt suggest getting boars just because they are a LOT less likely to welcome any new members. Even if you want to get females and put them in separate cages it wouldnt be a good idea if you already have un-neutered boars. The hormones in the air and the female scent can trigger their hormones to make their bonds break and the boys will fight. But if youre only wanting a pair of piggies and not wanting to expand then a pair of boars are a great choice! They are so sweet and have huge personalities
We've just had a failed bonding for a trio of females to add to our remaining two. They're living side by side at the moment. I don't know if we let the nerves get the better of us and gave up to early. I know they say stop at blood, but what's your opinion about chunks of fur being pulled out. It's our tiny wimpiest pig causing the kaos!!!.
Ah I would be nervous introducing one group to pair too, that's a lot of meeting of different personalities! I think hair pulling is actually okay during introductions, it's obviously a lunge/semi-bite, so I'd be looking for the other pigs reaction and see if they back down. If it's the littlest pig (who might normally be near the bottom of the pecking order?), it could be aggression because she feels she needs to defend herself. Perhaps try again, big neutral area that you can leave say up for multiple days, pile of hay in the centre and open hides and tunnels are okay to start putting in if all seems okay. Expect dominance behaviour, but see it as a good thing because it is them slowly establishing the new hierarchy. Watch them closely and try not to separate them or interrupt them too readily 😊
Nacho snoozing behind you was lovely to watch. Bringing more ladies into his harem will delight him. xx
I agree probably not a great idea. If it upsets the bond then all 3 of them could end up hating each other 😢
Neutering them does not really make a difference to their personalities, neutered males do not get along better than non neutered males, they will get on the same but a neutered Boar can live with Sows, you can't add a Sow with 2 neutered Boars as the Boars will fight, you can get a separate enclosure with 2 Boars if you wanted

Thanks for sharing, I'm glad they get along well! Adapting the cage size definitely helps 😃
Loved the video as usual but also, love that tee! Can I ask where you got it?
something the 2 neutered boars ive had have taught me is it seems nearly impossible to bond a boar who has been in a herd of ladies with any other male.
I'm glad that he's happy still being able to see and interact with his pals 😊
looking forward to seeing the new cage!
I love this channel!!
Thank you so much! 🎉
Can I get pinned?
Ah it's interesting to hear your experiences, the brothers bond is clearly very strong!
I could see you rescuing a sow with a baby kinda like little adventures did.
Aw I do hope so! Thinking about which items are their favourites and which they are more likely to clash over can help too ☺️
I ❤ my boy piggies
AHH JUST saw title!! ❤
My boars are definitely more outgoing and love attention and pets than my sows. Most of my groups are mixed gender of one neutered boar and one or more sows. One of my boys has 5 female cagemates.
Hi Sarah! I was wondering how you have made your piggies so bonded with you?~😅
Lots of time spent with them basically. I try handle them most days even if that's just a quick cuddle. Hand feeding is a great taming method, and I think the open cage set up helps too 😊 there are lots of taming videos on the channel!
@@SqueakDreams ok thank You ! ❤️
I have three brothers, who are neutered and live together happily. I am always watching their behaviour, but three and a half years on, they still get on well.
I think a big part of having a herd of females (we have 6) is having a big cage! We have a huge cage and ours get along so well! Maybe we just got lucky? Lol
There’s only room for one Nacho man 😉
He's gotta be, a Nacho man! 🤩
What kind of camera do you use? Your video quality is so clear!
Currently using a Sony vlogging camera body (zv E10), which is great and films in 4K. I use a sigma 16mm F1.4 prime lens which is very nice, would definitely recommend!
@@SqueakDreams Thank you so much!
Love your vids how much hay do you go through in a week
i have had two separate pairings of boars and they both wound up being incompatible. i wish i could have one big cage but i have to keep a divider up :(
i'm considering getting each of my 3yo boys a few week old companion that way mine can be the dominant pigs while finally getting a cagemate
What are some rescues in UK that you recommend?
I've had good experiences with RSPCA, great with Neville's Nest and Milhaven. Cavy Corner is highly thought of but don't share who is current available for adoption. I think most in the UK are very good! ☺️
I have two male Guinea pigs who we have had for a year, we were thinking about adding another if we expand the cage but we're not sure if it would work, and if it did what guinea pig we should get?
It could work but it's a risk and you should definitely have a back up plan in case they need to live separately! A young boar might fit in in the beginning but you'll have to monitor them as he grows up 😊
Please make a bonding tutorial video
Thanks for your request 😊
@@SqueakDreams ahh you replieddddd! Also no problem
When will you get them?I hope they bond perfectly
From December I'll be looking more seriously, as we have a holiday coming up in November.
Hi Sarah we would like to ask you if you have any tips on how to give medicine to a rejecting piggie
❤❤❤❤❤
i have two males
i have some little guinaes
❤
😮
Thank you that's a great point about having females in a separate cage, they do indeed smell the hormones and can fall out over it!
