Thank you Max for putting this out there, and starting the conversation - expressing honesty about one’s emotional state is not easy for everyone, particularly as a male. Myself included. I appreciate this kind of content - the folks that I follow the most closely, all have that ability to show real humanity, and a certain realness to their documented experiences, that’s hard to explain but you know it when you see it. None of us live in a constant emotional state, and there will be ups and downs. It’s good to give grace when one can, and always remember that. Maybe you weren’t fully exploring that personally in your Vietnam content, but you always showed the humanity of the people through your interactions, and showed your integrity through your kindness and actions. I enjoy all your content, but the stuff we see that’s most reflective of humanity is what resonates the most with people.

Comparison is the thief of happiness, and as someone who also gets frustrated by the overconsumption of social media, I cycle through the process of deleting certain social media platforms and keeping them; it definitely feels relieving and helps me practice not being on my phone/social media as much. Regarding your hesitancy in pursuing different paths, know that life keeps moving forward with or without you. That said, live life with no regrets and chase after the things that make you happy and the things you are passionate about! Your best work is a reflection of how passionate and how much enjoyment you get out of producing your work. You are already doing a lot of these things, but do not let comparison rob you of your enjoyment in the things you are passionate about. Be your best self like you have been, and your followers will always be there to support you whichever route you take :) if they don't, were they really supportive of you to begin with? Travel is great but a long string of superficial experiences no matter how beautiful or adventurous can begin to depress and equally true "no matter where you go, there you are." You should be very proud of your work like the recent Tokyo vlog- a cut above anything I've seen if you want to compare- and don't compare you're uniquely you which no one else can do.

If I get anxious about the future, I try to ground myself in the present. Future is always fluid and that what makes it worth living, because we never know what is in store for us, good or bad. I think we often forget to be compassionate towards ourselves while we are being kind to the world. Your last place in Paris was claustrophobic. This is indeed a far better place. I hope you didnt have to get up to pee in the middle of the night ;) Happy New Year Mr Mcfarlin, make the world a better place, lets keep the hope up and hope for a brighter future.
Take a deep breath….you are already living a life that most of us dream of. Money and “success “ does not equate to happiness. The world has been your play ground and that is exceptionally cool. Good on you for speaking openly about mental health, social media would be a much healthier place if more people did it and in a genuine non-performative way like you have. I emphathise with the 30s thing, I deffo feel like I've lost a bit of the risk taking confidence I had in my 20s. One thing I do when I'm feeling old is look at some older celebs who are still rocking it in their 70s and 80s and think about how they were older than I am now when I was born. Helps me put things into perspective for me anyway.

Take a deep breath….you are already living a life that most of us dream of. Money and “success “ does not equate to happiness. The world has been your play ground and that is exceptionally cool. At some point, it will be time to pivot and go a different direction and when that time comes , you will know it. Until then…..enjoy and don’t stress about the future. The future is never promised. We just have right now.

Good on you for speaking openly about mental health, social media would be a much healthier place if more people did it and in a genuine non-performative way like you have. I emphathise with the 30s thing, I deffo feel like I've lost a bit of the risk taking confidence I had in my 20s. One thing I do when I'm feeling old is look at some older celebs who are still rocking it in their 70s and 80s and think about how they were older than I am now when I was born. Helps me put things into perspective for me anyway.
