When Lorde had her first album, her live performances didn't sound EXACTLY like her studio versions, because she was performing them almost 2 years after recording them. When you're 15 going on 17/18, your voice REALLY can change. Her voice got deeper in that period and she embraced it. Now everyone is shocked that her live performances sound like her studio, but that is only because her tone and voice have stabled out a bit. Also, this song was recording only months ago, so its expected that her voice hasn't changed too much. I for one loved this performance and cant wait for an ALBUM! Damn, girl... hurry up.
I think she can take it as a compliment that people cannot believe her capability to sing a song live and pull it off. However, I am sure it helped that the mics were set up to assist her in this particular venue, I cannot imagine Disclosure wouldn't have the capability to create a clear vocal sound.
