I was initially apprehensive about the complexity of rules of this game but I went ahead and bought it and after 4-5 play through sessions...I have started loving it more and more

I played this at a convention this past weekend and I was shocked how much fun it was. The card drafting system was the heart of the game and made it tremendously enjoyable.

This is the blueprint for rules light, strategy heavy.

Just ordered this game. Going to try it out with four friends next week. Was searching for a nice 5 player boardgame that we had not tried before.

Despite looking very dry, it's one of those games with simple rules yet deep gameplay, and that just gets better the more time you play it

This review was so enthusiastic that it made me want to play the game even though Euros usually bore me :o

I know this is an older review, but I think this would be an excellent game to introduce to people whose most “euro” game they’ve ever played is Catan. Great way to learn card drafting too. I will look at picking this up soon

I know I shouldn't judge a game by the box... but that artwork. Sheesh.

I have enjoyed Mac Gertz's games thus far, so I was ready to pick this one up. Very glad to hear you enjoyed it and thanks for this review.

I've been on a Concordia binge for a while now. Also I keep seeing Amazon advertising Concordia on my Instagram page. Been wanting to add this game to my collection, but haven't made the decision yet. Mainly due to the fact that I don't have anyone to play with

There's an unofficial solo variant, that works pretty well: boardgamegeek.com/filepage/156527/another-concordia-solo-variant

Would you play it over Istanbul?

I believe he stated Istanbul doesn't beat Concordia in the Istanbul review.

If you enjoy this game, you would really enjoy a Castle for All Seasons, designed by the Brands, who designed Village.

I've heard this compared to Istanbul. what do you think?

    • @allsquirefilms2960
      @allsquirefilms2960 6 лет назад +1

IMO Istanbul is far better. Some games I don't like but will play them again. Concordia I would never play again.

Istanbul is an amazing game. It's light enough to get even the most inexperienced board gamer into it, but deep enough to entertain a veteran. Regularly hits the table.

It is all about tastes, I like Concordia, particullarly with Salsa expansion, way more than Istanbul.

Twilight Imperium also has a Duplicate-card. Love it :)

Yeah, so does Lewis & Clark (which got "destroyed" by Tom) and 7 Wonders: Leaders before that. In the end it really isn't something new. Although I also love it, haha.

Played this with some buddies and we didn't enjoy it that much. I was pretty disappointed, seeing as this was my birthday present, and I am wondering I wasted a gift choice. My friends and I are social gamers, not real game nerds, and it just felt like hard work. There was so much to think about each turn, it just seemed to take the fun out of it."Heavy cognitive load" was the expression used by one reviewer. The other issue was that we played with 5 players, and the 5'th player found it really hard to get into the game. All the nearby towns were already taken, so I wasted lots of time and money trying to get to other towns (and failing). So it was interesting to hear Tom say that he thought 4 players was the sweet spot for this game.

Too bad the base game is now out of print so it's now super expensive for what you are getting. I really want this game.

It is back in print! USA gamers have a little while before it hits our shores, but it is already available in Europe :)

Right? But I think that's because people are blocking each other. When I play with my wife, we usually give each other resources.

Your review is about as eloquent as a Mafia boss describing Swan Lake. That card "with Jupiter on it", indicates your alignment with the god Jupiter. And what's wrong with the box, really! That was worth mentioning?
