This'll be a great podcast. Also, that beard rules.
Great first episode!
Great information. Congratulations on an awesome podcast.
The best video yet! Thanks so much!
Great info!! Can't wait to hear more :)
Cool. Look forward to these.
A lot of studios in my town are the “if you build it they will come” concept and they’re mostly failing in the community. I worked at two that fell into the trap of “well let’s also be a record label”. Why? It’s dead quiet in the studio and you’re not bringing in profit. I’m sure there’s plenty more examples of this out there because they all seem to have the same perspective: I read this x, so I know how y works. Ok? Is that why you caved and hired a professional? Multiple engineers? At what point do they step back and realize that the hardest part of the music business is the musicians? You really need to know our people if you want to survive. Know what makes an artist walk away happy. In 3 months I made more money out of my house than I did in 6 months at those facilities. And they were beautiful locations with good gear, I have to give it up to these people they put the money into good equipment. However sometimes it was impulse buys that weren’t useful and often times wasted money. That’s another thing, if they don’t know what kind of equipment is worth the money and guide themselves using sales reps....yeeeesh....
Anyway, I’m happier now, and my clients walk away happy and sometimes with a belly full of chicken tikka masala if I was cooking before the session 😂
Fantastic tips there, Justin!
This is very informative and I've definitely gained some more insights on how to set my rates more accurately!
Not to be weird or anything... But you just have a nice voice.
Love the concept of the podcast, took away some useful knowledge. A future subject could be about tips on how to get customers as a studio or freelancer if you are just starting out.
For the naming, just call it "SonicScoop Podcast", I mean it does describe it very well.
Joe Egassy Good one! Thanks. Will definitely make sure to cover it.
Great video, thank you
I didn't even realize there were still studios around in Brooklyn, so many of the old ones I used to use years ago all closed down.
Love Soundtoys more than anything else hahah
I don't really understand dry\wet knob on decapitator. do you? Mine makes scary phase issues in any position besides 0% or 100%
@@eugeneeugene2511 i never really had any problems with it, this is actually the first time i hear someone having this problem, but i find their support amazing so you can ask them anything about it
even though I am in the UK, this was very interesting, I am looking at increasing my rates this year, although I specialise in mixing, there's very little info on this kind of thing.
One of the most underrated podcasts when it comes to audio!
Graham from Recording Revolution would be a great guest. He's all about helping getting the "home studio" folks up and running via tips and tutorials and such.
I was really hoping you'd say that you named your daughter "EchoGirl".
Dang i left a super long comment on your other video about value based pricing and you mentioned it here in your first video in the series!
I think sadly because most blue collar/entry level jobs are hourly based, people have been brainwashed into thinking time=money. That is not the case. Hours and minutes represent time, money represents value!
Wait is a 40 hour week being booked half the time for you? :D 15:06
Thank you, the video was very helpful
Hi Justin! I cannot reach you by e mail. Is your mix and master bundle available?
What kind of monitors are those? They look sweet
Jesse Cole Focal Trio6 Be. Just unboxed them. Will be evaluating a whole slew of new monitors in the coming months, so you may see them change from time to time.
@@JustinColletti hey are you still liking the focals?! I was thinking about getting the exact same ones
No pressure but BRING BACK THE BEARD!!!
This is not showing up for me under itunes or Downcast
slowpogo We've just submitted it to iTunes as of last night. It could be a few hours or a few days. Thanks for the patience! Hope to see it up there soon.

enjoyed the podcast very much, but please please use mouth declick or sth 🙏🏻🙏🏻
Can you have Diana on the podcast?
I don’t have a full room of sound attenuation and fancy shit. I have a computer, interface, microphones, 2 4x12 cabinets, amp head and professional DAW. I’m just looking to work with local artists. I was thinking $15 an hour and be affordable and make a few bucks on the weekends.
As i recall justin was a baldhead, wasn't he??
Bald face yes. Bald head, never.
@@JustinColletti wahahaha that's fine justin! Great talk. We expect more consistent upload for sure.
Too long
There is an interesting divergence now with 3 hour long pod casts and tiktok videos.
