    Bo tells the boys about what led to the end of his time at Nebraska, but also talks about what made the team successful in his tenure with the Cornhuskers.
    -----
    Get on the bus with NFL players Will Compton & Taylor Lewan! The Boys are letting you in on their hilarious, high-energy (and often heartfelt) conversations. Topics range from exclusive stories to active player perspectives to out-of-left-field hot takes on things you and your friends only discuss behind closed doors. Sometimes they chat with a guest, sometimes it's just the two of them, but it's always a good time when you're Bussin' With The Boys.
    And yes, this is the podcast where Mike Vrabel said he'd cut his piece off for a Super Bowl.

Even though the administration was selling out Nebraska Tradition. I don't want my coach to be considered as a "nice guy" I want him to be known as a "winner' Thanks for the effort and putting up with an overzealous fan base and sell out administration. Bo Pelini may have been out-spoken, but the players battled their hearts out for him.
    I still say that he was in the same mold as Knute Rockne... Tough & Intense.
    Why didn't Nebraska just have a "swear jar" in the AD's office. And then, every time he said a bad word, he could have put in $5K and everyone would be happy to this day.
    Also, please note that he didn't comment negatively about Husker fans. He was antagonized by the Athletic office and media just looking to create turmoil. And they unfortunately succeeded.
    He could have been a Top 10 current coach if they just let him C-O-A-C-H.
    Eventually, he would have reeled-in the "big games" and all would have been happy in Huskerland again.

What he forgot in his football equation was that the talent in the Big 10 is far superior to the AAC across the board. We lost 2+ seasons because of that mindset. Then he had to adapt & start changing the offense. Why do you think Wan'dale & JD Spielman transferred? Riley’s players weren’t even working out, the entire 2016 recruiting class transferred (missing a whole year’s worth of recruits is devastating), the pandemic didn’t make things easier, he was dragged through the mud by the B1G and national media for saying he wanted to play football, and we played the toughest schedule in the country last year and could have gone 10-2 if it weren’t for shitty calls and bad luck. I know you see these as excuses but they’re reality. He came into a shitty situation, and has had to maneuver through some pretty tough obstacles. There were even players who kept complaining about him. The local and national media hated him. Other coaches expressed their disdain for him. For the first time in decades, Nebraska was starting to lose the respect they had under TO. This interview makes it clear Bo takes no responsibility for his actions. You have to look at the whole picture. I was excited about Bo coming to Lincoln after the Bill Callahan debacle. I really thought he could be "that guy" to bring Nebraska back to prominence. The name of the game is regularly defeating quality opponents, winning conference championships, and competing for national championships.
    None of that happened. To his credit, the Huskers had wins over two Top 10 teams, in 2010 and in 2011. Against other quality opponents, they not only lost but they very often got hammered. He was 0-3 in conference championship games and 3-3 in bowl games. His heralded defenses were giving up big chunks of yards and points in those losses.
    It's not that Bo was a bad coach. He just didn't deliver what they thought he was capable of delivering. His teams won 9 or 10 games each season against lesser opponents, and they never finished ranked higher than 14th. That's not why he was brought in. His crusty personality wasn't winning him any friends. Had he been winning more than he was, that might have been overlooked. If he wanted more time (which is a fair talking point), he could have been more diplomatic about it and shown a concrete plan for how he was going to get his teams to Indianapolis and to Pasadena.

    • @vincentrivera3961
      @vincentrivera3961 2 года назад

      I'd like to add and you're spot on:
      Aside from the personality and blowouts, what did Bo in is what happened early on. His first three recruiting classes, particularly on the D-line were atrocious. I still believe at that time, he and Carl were the best in the business but the inability to sign elite d-linemen after all the accolades of Suh and Crick, (Pierre and Barry were nice too) is truly what did him in. Once that happened, the program began to decay, and once he got McMullen, Avery Moss, Randy, Valentine, and Maliek, it was too late. There was no excuse to having Stanley and Ciante Evans as your starting DB's. Nebraska should have been a factory on Defense.

    As a Nebraska fan I never got the hate that people were pushing against Pelini. We were one of the most winning and consistent schools in football under him. But everyone bought into this narrative that we could just find another coach and our great program would just keep winning. Now its been how many embarrassing years in a row? Its just so annoying that morons had to ruin what could have been a great thing for many years. You would never see coaches getting insulted like Pelini did at Nebraska after winning 9+ games for 7 straight seasons. You would think after the debacle that came before they would just be happy to be winning.
    I would also like to add that Nebraska fired Solich after a 10-3 season and a pretty amazing overall record because that just wasn't good enough. The people in charge of Nebraska athletics are delusional and entitled. The genuinely believe we should be like Alabama and be in the National Championship hunt every season rather than just be good every year and every now and then breaking through. And because of that they keep firing good coaches and finding themselves stuck with trash teams for years.
